      @ He thinks so. We all help each other out. One neighbor lost her husband suddenly . He had a massive heart attack leaving work. He was only 49. So my husband and 2 other neighbors have stepped in and now cut her lawn and do small home repairs. I garden and share my vegetables with some of our neighbors. Another has around 100 chickens and he shares his eggs. I haven’t bought eggs in years. We all help and look out for one another. I know it sounds unusual, but it works for us.

    My new years resolution last year was:
    -Set aside $100 a month.
    -Research as many videos as possible and make a very detailed list of preps.
    -Import it all into a spreadsheet, categorize by group, and develop a color system. Red is medical, yellow for lighting, orange is fire, and so on.
    -Look for deals, shop everywhere, and every month, use the $100 to start buying at least 1 prep from each category.
    After 1 year, I now have a months supply of food & water for me and my family, tons of spare tools & parts, shelves and totes to organize, garden and canning supplies, tp for a year, spare clothes, batteries, and so on. Prepping takes time and money but small monthly goals add up very fast!
    I still have items to buy from the list and the expensive items like a solar battery backup take time to aquire, but baby steps will get me there eventually.

      Well done.
      Other suggestions.
      Sometimes a single prep tool can be expensive. Power tools, rototiller, chain saw, , soil amendments, reloading equipment, shotgun. Don't spend that hundred every month if you need a big purchase. I myself replaced a 14 year old tiller last year. And just this week got a heavy forged head hoe for the garden. It was more than twice the price of a typical hardware store hoe, but wll worth it.
      Other items to put on the list?
      Bulk laundry detergent? 10 gallon tub and washboard.
      garden stuff, soil tester, fertilizer, vermiculite, lumber, fence,
      chemicals, lubricants, adhesives, cleansers,
      fishing tackle
      Tools, to you have a couple files and sharpening stones
      Hang in there.

    I am living in an apartment, got windows but no balcony, so indoor plants but little options for anything outdoor. Preparing in a small space, no car, fridge/freezer combo, no extra space, little to no budget.
    Budgeting and staying organized is the number 1 priority to stay on top of things. You have options if you just stay open minded and creative👌

    • @Caylus1306
      @Caylus1306 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Same. I try to buy two long lasting food items ( like canned food) every time I go buy groceries. In this way I slowly add to my food storage, and It does not feel as expensive. Most disasters are over in a copple of days anyhow, so if I may survive a week or two with the supplies I do have, then I am set for most disasters.

    JACKERY VS ECOFLOW: Just my opinion, but I started with a Jackery to go camping in my truck a few years ago. Loved it. I watched those 'van life people' out west to see what/how they lived in a vehicle and learned about Jackeries. I have three of them now. This past Black Friday, Amazon/Ecoflow had a deal and I got an Ecoflow for 40-percent off. Let me tell you, I wasn't happy that it didn't come with directions - actual written directions - in the box. I'm trying to run freezers, well, etc., during a two-day blackout, and the Ecoflow had some lights blinking on it and I didn't know what those symbols were. I do not want to have to go on the internet during a blackout to see how to run a generator. Should I have 'practiced' with it, sure, but I was busing canning fall vegetables and doing other get ready for winter things. It's Jackeries for me!

    When developing my go-bag, I sat down and worked out "What do I want it support". From that thought, I developed a list of what I need in my go-bag to support that goal. When I'm buying something, I focused on that list. There were some things I looked over and decided on one product to buy and sometimes I bought a couple items that I tested or waited to see which fit best in my full build.
    I did the same with an EDC/Emergency support kit for keeping electronics supported. For example, you can support ANY USB chargeable device with the minimum equipment: Powerbank, AC adapter, DC adapter, 2 USB-C cords, and USB-C adapters for USB-A, Micro, Mini, & Apple Lightning. That's not my complete kit but the minimum, and it can keep any device capable of charging from USB charged.

      While I like them and could easily support one with the rest of my electronics, I haven't found one i like the form on. Many have the same form as a zipper where the lid is kinda in the way. Personally I prefer the disposable with the 1" or extendable wand lighter. Keeps my fingers out of the way when trying to light a fire or stove. Though it might compliment the firewand I'm planning to try out. Use the lighter to light the firewand instead of directly lighting the fire.

I don't really drink much and thought, well, the medicine won't be to my liking, but, hey, it's medicine. Then, learning more, I discovered that you can use other things. But I don't mind having a couple bottles of vodka put aside, antiseptic, etc. I wouldn't want to trade it, because why would I want drunks coming back to my place?

    Think about unintended uses for stuff. In my medical CLOSET, I’ve kept some nursing pads for use in a pressure dressing for larger or deeper wounds. They’re absolutely meant to absorb liquid and they come individually wrapped in pairs (because you never have just one leaky boob😂) so they are presumably sterile.

    • @palominogirl2732
      @palominogirl2732 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those old-fashioned menstrual pads with the tails that you safety-pinned to your underwear, back in the day (UGH), if someone made those anymore, that would be handy to tie around a limb. But nursing pads, kotex, absolutely meant to absorb moisture. Also, some vet supplies are handy - big rolls of cotton for wrapping legs of horses or humans, vet wrap (cheaper than human kind, same thing).
