I think its not about resources but dedication and passion, Learning design patterns, understanding data types, and challenging yourself on code question will improve your skill. But I would build something first before doing something like this, this is a level of pro with years of knowledge of the basics and building complicated stuff. I would suggest master OOP first in one language you find comfortable. He is using c++ if you want that route then do it without giving up. But My suggestion would be c#, its strictly type so it will give you path in writing good code, so it comes with the visual studio ide which is really good.
POV: You just graduated with your college degree and this is the level they expect you to perform in the coding interview while explaining everything to an interviewer that is watching you live
