As a family, we used to go there every year, my parents set up a massive shoe stall for the week and we’d camp there or sleep in the van with loads of duvets, which was actually really cosy… looking back now I had a mint time and I am very grateful for the memories!
the 2019 show was wonderful from what I can remember of it. when I visited the 2018 one it rained a lot and by the time I went home I had to take my mud covered shoes off to get in my Dad's car
I went with an exhibit for several years but not been for 5 years or so. This video captured the atmosphere and took me back. Thank you, you've made an old man happy.
thought the great dorset stream fair was in october sometime ,but its nice to see how every think was this year anyway thanks who evers putting it on you tube.thanks again got loads to watch later .
Thankyou for a wonderful video. It brings back some wonderful memories for me as I used to go there as a child with my late father. He used to drive a Foden steam waggon & a couple of times he did some ploughing with a Field Marshall tractor. I ❤️ the haulage in the arena nicknamed ‘the playpen’.
The playpen is one of my favorite places on the steamfair. To drive up the hill with the Foden steam wagon must be an experience that you will never forget for the rest of your live. I hope someday I can ride it up with someone and make my dream come true....
@@MultiNaatje i have been in the play pen while sitting on top of the coal of my friend's steam roller it was great to hear the engine's working hard while they go up the big hill
@@eliotreader8220 Wow, that must have been a great experience. I hope somebody will ever invite me for a ride up the mountain in the playpen... Hopefully the show can go on again next year ... !!

This has a little bit of everything you would expect, and more, of a steam fair. This was a wonderful video showing some of what people used to use back in the day ! I enjoyed watching :-))
Great video guess you must of taken at least a couple of days walking round to get everything on there as I have been many times to the GDSF and always had to plan a day or two where I was walking round so I could get to see everything Its amazing how it has evolved over the years to the size it is now from when it all started off over 50 years ago at Stourpaine and I remember my father doing model railway displays with Poole and district model railway society in the early years Happy days!
Wow Nigel, these are wonderful memories of your dad. Great to hear all those stories about how it all started in stourpaine. I myself went to the show for the first time in 2011. And from then on I have lost my heart to this wonderful event. Since that year it has been saving money every year to be able to go there again. which has been successful every year so far. This year was supposed to be the tenth time in a row, but covid 19 decided otherwise .... Hopefully the show can go on in 2021. Thanks for watching...!
@@MultiNaatje This year was much more relaxed to be at however the 50th was special I was in the play pen with a couple of friends engines last year. It was madness in there at times

Quiet day in the trench,no body parts hanging off the walls. Belts and pulleys, and little boys with sticks! Saw bench obviously too loud for today's generation! And a day's work back then WAS a day's work, dawn to dusk, with maybe a few minutes for lunch,in the field of course. And more than a few men losing a hand or arm along the way. I spent a day there some years ago and saw only a fraction of the displays, truly amazing, the organisation!
Met Fred Dibnah at Dorset way back in time. Stopped going due to camping getting expensive and "Undesirables" being allowed in. Still the best Steam Fair going though.
I live in Poole it's easy to get to even on public transport so if you caught a train to Poole you can catch a bus to Blandford from there and there is a bus service to the steam fair from there don't think you have been looking into it enough
