Very good hosts at the Ireland show -- great questions and energy. Of course, we would remember the Mr. Darcy roles these two actors played and wonder what they thought about each other's performances -- why I watched this interview in the first place. Loved both movies -- classics. The actors don't realize how much those movies are part of the culture -- Jane Austen's PRIDE & PREJUDICE brought to life by them.
Matthew Macfadyen did a fine job as Mr. Darcy, but since it was a movie and not the mini-series, Colin Firth had the advantage of more character development and more of Jane Austen's real dialogue. However, when you watched Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy there were times you could actually see the wheels turning in his head as he tried vainly to think of something to say to the witty and rather cutting Miss Bennett. So, he will always be my favorite Mr. Darcy. I also love Mr. Knightley if it is the one from the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma, Jeremy Northam. He also sings beautifully in Gosford Park. I recommend it for several reasons. It is also the first writing effort of Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey.) I was aware of this story from WW2. But then, I watch a lot of documentaries. Will definitely try to see this movie.
Mr Darcy SQUARED, lol They were both outstanding, couldn't really separate them ...Matt's was grittier. Both deserve(ed) accolades...Wonder when Matthew will win an Oscar...He's such an outstanding actor + really nice man, from all reports. I loved him in Spooks with his wife Keeley Hawes, as Tom + Zoe...Both these guys, Colin + Matthew have such a great friendship chemistry...will have to track down this movie. If any film co ever makes Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades, Matt would have to be The Duke of Avon, Justin Alistair. CateII 🦁♐🌠
