    There's no special name to any of the Reggae songs. We just called it (Island Reggae or Pacific Reggae). That goes for all of the Polynesian Islands. For Hawaii, they called it (Jawaiian Reggae). In the real of it all, Jawaiian Reggae actually came from Jamaican Reggae. So when Reggae came along in Hawaii in the 60 or 80's. It has become really popular in Hawaii. The locals or Hawaiian then made their own name and called it (Jawaiian Reggae), but overall, regardless of any of the Polynesian Islands, make a Reggae song. We just called it Island Reggae or Pacific Reggae.

    Also Fiji is the godfather of more recent years but even he cannot deny he was not influenced by Herbs. a Maori group know for their reggae flavour for before I was born anyway. Fiji sings "E Papa", a Māori song but he sings it in the Herbs version ☺️

    Depends on where overall I’d say it’s island music greatly rooted in Jamaican Reggae. Here in Hawaii we called it Jahwaiian because of the cultural mix. It’s easy to vibe too and dance too.

  • @SovereignKonceptz
    @SovereignKonceptz ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hawaiian from Hawaii here, the term I've heard most is Jawaiian. Not the only fusion in hawaiian music tho, we got yodeling, country (the protuguese brought ranching to the islands and it fit too well with local culture), and even bandstand music. Love is a huge topic because family is literally the core of the culture, and we see ourselves as the offspring of nature itself. The Idea of family is all encompassing. Also, this song is waaaaaay older than 8 years. I was still snotting at the nose when this was on the radio decades ago.

    Typically, reggae has resonated strongly amongst groups of oppressed people throughout the world because of its aspirations for racial equality, social justice, and freedom. Pacific Islanders in general, and Native Hawaiian's in particular would certainly be included into the worlds groups of oppressed peoples due to their long legacy of European colonization that dates back hundreds of years.
    But in all majority, reggae had become more of love and peace, happiness and the brotherhood. It became more about love over war. Singing praises of harmony, family over the oppression is the focus.
    If you can, react to three of Fiji’s songs in separate time if you can. 1 is *TRIBAL WAR,* 2 is *INDIGENOUS LIFE.* & 3 *WARRIOR.*

    Island Reggae is what we produce but the influences and definitely Uncle Bob 🙌🏽 Bob Marley and the Wailers are huge here still but people still call on the time he visited NZ. UB40 is another big inspo to us, Judy Mowatt or Bitty McLean, Inner Circle, Maxi Priest.... Reggae is loved here in NZ and across the Pacific.

    I've been listening to this song since the 90's. Hawaiian Reggae/Island Rhythm (Jahwaiian) music is what a lot of locals from Hawaii call it. We sing about everything. Love, Alcohol, Food, culture, The Land, the ocean, the mountains, we adapt country style music. With Reggae type beats, a lot of ukulele.

    most island reggae/pacific reagge tends to be about love and relationships but also in particular areas new zealand and hawaii there tends a lot more songs about political injustice, stolen land, colonisation but there are also across all pacific reggae songs about indigenous identity aswell if anyone knows more information or any corrections feel free to reply aswell but i hope this is helpful, Chur!🤙🏽

    born and raised on the island of Oahu, growing up in Kalihi i would say Bruddah Waltah (RIP) was the godfather of what was called Jahwaiian Reggae music in the 80's. and a little old place called Jubilees which is no longer there, started it all with Bruddah Waltah. thats where i actually saw Fiji performed too, in his younger days and he went off and became the locals fav. but yeah you can call it Jahwaiian Reggae, Hawaiian Reggae, Island Reggae music. fyi Maoli is the top dog nowadays.

    The Pacific islands are made up of Micronesians, Polynesians, and Melanisians.
    Polynesia comprises American Samoa; the Cook Islands; French Polynesia, Niue, Pitcairn, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Tonga, Tokelau, Tuvalu, and Wallis and Futuna. The Hawaiian Islands and New Zealand, anchor this region to the north and south, respectively, with Native Hawaiians and Maori as their indigenous populations. Micronesia Caroline Islands (Federated States of Micronesia and Palau); Gilbert Islands (Kiribati); Mariana Islands (Northern Mariana Islands and Guam, US); Marshall ...Melanesia is from the region includes the four independent countries of Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea. It also includes the Indonesian part of New Guinea. But we islanders think of ourselves as Pacific Islanders!!! (From Google).
