So in telling he "Only needs Syn" I believe he says "I only need you to be who you are and to be happy". But Syn on the other hand got out of talking with the monk, that he wasn't considering their relationship, Nuer and what he wants into his thoughts about becoming a monk (so he wasn't mindful even though mindfulness is an important virtue in buddism and because of that also an important factor in being ready to go into monkhood as i read). And in telling Nuer "If we lose mindfulness, there will be no precept" he actually says it is important for him (I think Syn as a word means precepts) to be mindful of Nuer. So basically both want to be mindful and respect the wants of each other :33 And I think it is also interesting to see Nuer being like this.
