I just installed the DRL harness this morning. I came up with an alternative to the styrofoam removal or cutting. I took an old solder iron, heated it up, pulled the carpet back and tucked it under the clutch peddle, located the bottom nut and used the hot iron to melt a groove thru styrofoam from the top, down to the nut. That took maybe 30 seconds and was way easier than removing the styrofoam and potentially breaking it of using a razor knife to cut away the styrofoam around the nut. The melting styrofoam gave off a little smoke and odor but that all dissipated in a minute or 2. I hope this helps someone with their installation.
Thanks for the install video! Only thing I would change, is near the end, you mention that the DRLs turn off when the main lights are off. Clarifying the DRLs stay on for normal daytime driving would be useful for viewers.
Dude that is hands down the best color I’ve ever seen on an ND Miata ever! Looks absolutely stunning! How did you get it done (for abt how much) and what’s the paint code lol. Or is it a wrap? I wanna get a MX-5 next year, and I’d love to get it done in that color eventually
Great video! Just got my MX5 and using DRL at night was my biggest wish...such cool lights! Kinda terrified to tackle this by myself. I'm a clutz and can only imagine what kind of damage i could inflict on my baby!!! Any idea how much this would cost to get done professionally? Thanks again for a great video!
Thank you! I imagine it wouldn’t be too expensive as it’s a 15 minute or less job. The harness can only plug in the correct way, so it would be difficult to mess something up!
Question? I have a sport which has the normal drl. If I want to replace the housing with the led DRL's from a gt is it possible or a different plug? Thank you
Is there any more detail (either visually or verbally) about getting to the DRL harness? I tried to get to it yesterday and failed (even though I did get to breaking the styrofoam block out of the way). Thanks for all your vids.
Hey Thomas, here is a blog post with some additional photos for getting to it: mx5things.blog/2018/07/25/driving-at-night-with-led-drl/ The box that contains the connector for this harness is behind that styrofoam on the left side (if LHD) and is up higher. There is a cover that must be removed. It's held on by two 10mm nuts. Pull the cover off and then you will see multiple wiring harnesses. The one on the top right is the one to unplug. Then plug in the DRL harness at that location and plug the vehicle's harness into the other end of the DRL harness. I hope this helps!
Edit: I’m not sure. It’s possible that the bulb there on your model is the same as the reverse lights, but I haven’t confirmed that. I would start by figuring out exactly what type of bulb your car uses for that location and search by that bulb type. I hope this helps!
@@jeseniacuautle7271 did you turn the headlights on? Because the DRL will not be on if the car is parked. They turn on once you move 5mph and turn off if the parking brake is applied
There is no bulb, it’s an all-in-one housing for the LED DRLs. You have to remove the fender liners at the minimum, removing the bumper might be necessary

Installing my harness DRL harness this weekend along with dark grey sides and turn signals. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, it'll look very sharp! Thank you for watching!
For the manual drivers, getting the carpet around the clutch pedal is one of the larger pains around this install

Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it!
Thank you! I was just thinking how stupid a modification it was to remove the added safety of DRLs.

It’s a wrap, Acid Green by Inozetek
@@DriveMX5 thank you!!
It looks a lot simpler (and safer) to break the styrofoam. I’d rather not fool with the accelerator assembly. Thanks, Tom
I chose to break the styrofoam as well since the carpet holds it in place as mentioned in the video anyhow
that's what I did.
how much was the green wrap brother? Looking to get one, and wanted to ask how it has been holding up?
I believe it was around $1,800 several years ago. Was my ex's car and got totaled a while back but it held up fine for the year or two she had it.
Hello, tell me. Do you have a wiring diagram for connecting the DRLs themselves to the bumper. I have a 2016 car without them. Plans to deliver.
You might be able to find it here: www.mx5manual.com/menu.html?p=wiring

Honesty I’m not sure if the LED ones are plug n play. Check the forums/Facebook groups, I’m sure some people there have experience with it

Is there a video for RHD MX5?
Hello, where I can find the DRL harness for a 2023 Miata and what is the part number? Thanks
The harness is an aftermarket part sold by MX5Things. Link is in the description of the video
Been tempted for this one, great video
Any recommendation for a bright LED bulb? Lasfit does not carry the bulb for model GX 2016. Thanks

@@DriveMX5 thank you!
For RHD vehicle. Is it the same side as the pedals are located?
No, I believe it’s on the passenger side of RHD vehicles
Just finally purchased the harness , getting it put on next week hopefully.. lol 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Haha you got it! Just gotta be a bit flexible
The green ND in the video, are the DRLs LED or Halogen bulbs?
LED
Hi, if the light switch is set for "Auto" will the DRL still on during day time and all light will came on during night time automatic ?
Yes, that is correct
Is that a paint job or a wrap? What is the name of the color.?
It’s a wrap. Don’t remember the name of the color but it was from Inozetek
Do they have shipments to México?
I’m not sure, you would need to reach out to MX-5 Things or another vendor for that information
MX5 things si hace envios a México
I am trying to remove the nuts but it doesn't come off. 😭 Please help
Hello, are they dimmerable?
They are not but MX5Things does make a version that dims when your headlights go on
So which LED is in the DRL? I think the OEM is a bulb, no?
What do you mean?
@@DriveMX5 So are the OEM daytime running lights LED's or halogen?
@@ga6147 ahh, it depends on the trim level. Here in the US, Sport models have halogen or incandescent and Club and GT have LED
Nice step by step how to :)
my drl didn’t work , what could I have done wrong . I bought the same hardness for my 2020 ND MIATA
When did you check the DRL for functionality?

Do the drls still come on with headlights off?
Yes, they will still be on when driving w/ headlights off
What’s the link to order for uk
Through the link in the video, do they not ship to the UK? You might need to reach out to MX-5things directly
This is so great!
Everybody has a video on the harness but I cant not find a simple video on how to replace the bulb or even get to it.

You’re welcome, thank you for watching!
Did you actually buy an automatic miata?
No way haha, that was my ex’s Miata. Manuals only here now!
How Can i Order in The connector..

thank you!

so the stock nd doesn't have that and the rear ones not enabled?
Rear ones are reverse lights. Front only light up when driving and headlights not on, from stock.
Sweet!
