  • Switching the fishroom to reverse osmosis (RO) water. Technically RODI water, remineralized with Shrimp mineral gh/kh plus.
    I am switching to reverse osmosis to help control phosphates and other excess minerals in my tap water. Got lots of green hair algae growing because of it!
    Going over the system I plan to use for water changes, and the drip system. This first video I show the initial testing of the setup and talk about what works for me. In the next video I will show the completed setup and show it in action!

    For the neos how did you make the switch, can you go through how to create that pump system you made?

    Just saw some black beard algae sneaking in my tank. Time for trimming and waiting for nerite snails thru the mail. Sooner the better.

      Ugh, algae makes everything harder! Haha

      Bearded Bob! I’m moving to a house next month and had been in-visioning a set up like yours for the longest time. Shrimp and guppies. Currently keeping a fish room in my apartment and an expansion is coming soon. What kind of substrate are you using? It looks like you use the same kind in every tank.

      @@ZachAttack1661 Congrats! Yes, you are observant! I use eco complete in almost every tank. Its good stuff. I pick it up on amazon, you save even more money if you add it to a subscribe and save through them. Usually less than 20 bucks for 20 pounds, delivered to your door.

      Bearded Bob's Fishroom Sweet! Wanting to have a rack of 10’s for shrimp and selective breeding for guppies. I also want a rack of 40’s for pleco breeding and guppy grow outs. Still fiddling around with how I want to set things up.

      @@ZachAttack1661 If I could do it again, all tanks would be drilled for an overflow. 10 gal tanks are hard to drill without cracking... id maybe do 20 gal tanks, or 20 longs instead of 10s

    I’m just going to start with a basic set up. I’m sure I’ll move to over flows and such down the line. Have you ever sold any of your shrimp and mosses?

    I want to.switch to RO water but I'm not sure how? Should I do small changes at a time? Do I remineralize to.match the TDs?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's how I did it. Slowly with normal water changes, the TDS of my tap water was in the 700s. I started with 5%ish water changes with ro remineralized to 300. Over a few months, I reduced it to about 220, and that's where it has been now for years.

      Do you just use the saltshrimp to remineralize? @beardedbobsfishroom7654

    • @Jessica_Crease87
      @Jessica_Crease87 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @beardedbobsfishroom7654 my TDS is 268, PH 7.6, GH 10 amd KH 5. The only thing I can't figure out is how to remineralize.

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, for all my tanks. I have a big water container, mix it there, and pump it to my tanks.

      Once the water comes out of the ro filter, it should be close to 0tds. Then, just mix in small amounts of the salt until it reaches your desired tds. And thats it.

    I want to switch from tap to r.o for my neos I got salty shrimp gh kh + I’m going to set to 250 that’s what my tank is now but I’m worried the harness will be different my harness now is about a 8.5-9

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just make sure you change it over slowly. Try changing about a gallon of the new water per day to start

    • @Mattcc3
      @Mattcc3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was going to change it as 15% a week until it’s switched I also have over 100 babies and a bunch of berried shrimp so I want to do it really slow

    • @Mattcc3
      @Mattcc3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you think it’s better day by day to change it over or just do water changes with it until it’s switched over

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Either way would probably be fine for Neos.

    Hi Bob, would ro system control phosphate and silica levels?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silica yes, but phosphate no. I believe you can purchase a phosphate reactor to deal with that though.
