- At War with Satan is the third album by heavy metal band Venom. It was released in April 1984. With this album, they returned to the more raw, unpolished sound of Welcome to Hell after the more refined albeit darker and heavier sound of Black Metal. This is especially emphasized with the raspy vocals. Shortly after its release, the HMV and WH Smith record chains withdrew the album from their shelves due to its "controversial content".
The inspiration for writing a track comprising an entire side of the album came from Rush's 2112, one of bassist Conrad Lant's favourite albums of all time. The epic title track was actually never played live until bassist Conrad Lant rearranged it, shortening it by more than half, for his solo project Cronos. It has since then been played live several times by the reformed Venom.
When I want to listen to some really good metal, I put on some old Venom. Their first records was some of the most raw and heavy music ever made. The frontman Cronos really both looks and sounds that he was born to be the frontman and figure he is. I've always thought that he is a quite scary and special person. "At war with Satan" must really have taken a looot of time to make. A true masterpiece of black metal music..

It was advertised in Kerrang back in late 83, then in early - mid 84 came out! IT was the most MODERN form of METAL EVER IN 1984!

Venom habe ich leider nur einmal beim Eindhoven Festival 1996 als Headliner erlebt aber ich würde sie mir sofort wieder antuen, denn es war so ein genialer Gig das es ins Hirn eingebrannt ist und mir wie gestern vorkommt.

@HateSince88 this record came out in 1984. mtv came on the airwaves in 1981. i'll grant that venom is one of many bands that mtv would never touch.

Ja, es gibt auch deutsche VENOM Fans! Ich finde, dies ist eines der besten Songs von VENOM. Es gibt viele Tempiwechsel und der Text ist ja auch sehr aussagekräftig....;-) Und dieses "Lofl" versteh ich auch nicht.... von dem 0Pxy blabla. So, das wollte ich nur mal gesagt haben. Gruß

Cronos is a man or a band ? I am new to this.
Tudor Renegade Cronos was the original singer for Venom for a good number of their albums then went Solo calling his solo band Cronos then went back to being lead vocalist for Venom.
