- Wonderful piece of Myrtle wood. I was disappointed when I applied the first coat of finish. Not to worry, after multiple coats, this piece just shines!
Finished in shellac.

You’re barking up the right tree, Phil. Nice result, both the oval shape and thin rim. 👍
Haha, thanks, George! 😊
The way you say sooooo smooth, it sounds like you are saying sensually smooth. Beautiful.
It is! 😊
I know you aren't too keen on shiny bowls but this enhances the whole look. A beautiful bowl, thank you for sharing. Keep safe my friend and keep on turning. David
It depends a lot on the piece, David but, yeah, on this one, shiny is good! Thanks! 😊
Phil - I love not only your work but how you describe your thought process throughout. Thanks for inspiring me to look at things differently!
Thank you so much, Jonathan! 😊
That took the finish beautifully. I never get tired of seeing the nub stop spinning or breaking off. Enjoy the day.
Thank you, Dale! 😊
Phil. I haven’t commented in some time but have been watching most all videos. This bowl is another one of your masterpieces.
Welcome back! Thank you for your great comment! 😊
Good evening, Phil. You too, Myrtle.
You turned a gorgeous life edge bowl. I was grinning the entire time. Beautiful wood to turn. I can see a remarkable difference after you sharpen up. Sounds different, shavings are different and I'm guessing it feels different as the tool is cutting. Your video is very enjoyable. Thank you to Dennis as well.
Thank you kindly, Ray! 😀 Yes, all those things come into play with a newly sharpened gouge. So much more pleasurable!
The bark does look like a giraffe skin. So pretty. I like the way the wood looks. The shine of the inside of the bowl was a beautiful surprise.
For me too, Judith! 😊
You are by far my favorite turner.I loved that you were able to leave the bark on the rim of the bowl.
Great job as usual
Thank you so much 😀
OK! I’d say pretty perfect too or as Mary Poppins would say “Practically perfect”. A beauty for sure. Thanks Phil! Cheers, Rick
Pretty perfect, practically perfect, I'll take them both, Rick! 😀
I really like how the bark edge turned out. It adds something to the bowl. Lovely bowl.
Thank you, Lea! 😊
Hi Phil what magnificent wood this mortal piece you turned is wonderful. The live edge oval bowl is magnificent ❤. I love your videos as I like how you explain everything including your thought process. Thank you Dennis for all that magnificent wood you kind brought Phil all the way from Oregon. Take care Phil you are a wonderful person and a masterwoodturner. Amanda from Scotland xx❤❤
Thank you so much, Amanda in Scotland! 😊
Another beautiful bowl, Phi!! You make it look so easy and they come out beautiful.
Some of them are easy, Ken, like this one. Thank you! 😊
In addition to the chatoyancy it almost looks as if the rim is made of copper. Quite lovely.
😊
It's a beautiful piece Phil. A little different for you since we are used to you turning more unusually shaped pieces of wood. Something to keep us on our toes cause wood is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get.
I love wood and boxes of chocolates, Jean! 😀
Phil,
Ya done good! ❤
Keep the aspidistra flying!
God bless,
Paul
Thank you, Paul! 😊
Thank you Dennis! Very nice bowl, Phil. Excellent piece of Myrtle for getting a well behaved turn and a well behaved bowl. And not every bowl has to have wild character! Hope you had a good 4th of July with the family.
Thank you, Valerie! The 4th had me at my daughters house with my son in law and grandson having a fried chicken competition. I got to eat some of both so, I won! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous Phil Myrtlewood is so beautiful
Thank you, Mike! 😊
Nice job Beautiful Bowl Phil! That’s some super nice looking wood too that Dennis brought ya to turn! 😎 👍
You got that right! I'm the luckiest turner on the tube! Thank you, Kimsey! 😊
What an absolutely beautiful bowl Phin ! Love the chatoyance ! This type of bowl is really useful beside being a work of art . Great job and have a great weekend .
Thank you, Jon! 😊
I agree it is a very special piece! I especially like the thin live edge. Thanks Phil.
Thank you, Larry! 😊
No, you are an artist who happens to turn very nice bowls!
😉 Carsten
Thank you, Carsten!😊
Another beautiful piece Phil! Just a great looking bowl. Thanks and take care.
Thank you kindly 😊
That bowl has beautiful character.
😊
Lovely bowl Phil with lots of nice color and grain, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thanks, Al! 😊
Nice job Phil! The piece is really balanced and classy, not your usual thick walled or odd shaped bowl.
Thank you very much! 😀
Absolutely gorgeous!!! If you ever want to sale it let me know. Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us. Have a great weekend. 😊
Thank you, Mary! 😊
I have never seen Myrtle before. It is a very nice wood. The inside is gorgeous. I really like the light color in the bottom of the bowl. The bark must hold on well as I noticed as you worked the side you turned bottom to top. You always to save the bark turn top to bottom. Beautiful bowl Phil.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
Yeah, this bark was very tight, no need to worry about it, Joel. Thank you! 😊
Hello Phil, I'm here, I'm here👋🙋better late than never, been such a busy week unusually and here it is Saturday evening before I knew it!
What a pretty little bowl, I love the slimline edge on it too, the chatoyance was amazing even while still on the lathe it was shimmering, just beautiful, yet quite delicate.
I enjoyed that one Phil and now I dont have so long to wait for next Friday morning! 👍
Glad you made it, Jude! I was looking all over for you! 😀
Gorgeous piece of wood = beautiful bowl. If it ain't perfect is so close its not worth mentioning. I love the proportions of this piece!
Thank you very much, Bob! 😀
That is absolutely beautiful! I can see the giraffe skin detail in the live edge.
Thank you so much! 😊
Myrtle is such a lovely timber to turn. Here in Oz some of our Myrtle’s have a pinkish tinge to the wood. Myrtle’s are such a large family of trees,
Great bowl Phil.
Very cool! 😊
Ho hum, just another Phil master piece!
I had a Grandma Myrtle and an Aunt Myrtle! You have a wooden Myrtle!
🤣🤣😁
Haha, cool, thanks, Colleen! 😊
😊
Another uniquely beautiful piece, Phil. Love it!
Thank you, Judy! 😊
HI PHIL beautiful as u always do.
Thanks, Manjit! I hope you have fully recovered! 😊
Beautiful Susie would like something like that so nice thank you
😊
It's a beautiful piece Phil, I really do love your live edge bowls and the oval shape is beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Very nice, I like the color of the wood and the bark. Thanks Phil!
Glad you like it, Brenda, thank you! 😊
Another outstanding piece! Thank you for sharing this with us!
😊
Phil, I want to thank you for talking about your process of applying sanding sealer in your previous video. Explaining the rag, how you store the rag and brush, really helped me. I have always had issues getting a smooth no run surface. Circular motions with a lint free rag were the key for me. I have learned and learned from your youtubes. I would love to have you come visit me in Grapeview some time. I might even send you home with some quilted maple for blanks. I just finished my first oval bowl and enjoyed this video!
Excellent, thanks, Steve! 😊
Another stunner Phil. Love the pale colour. ❤
Many thanks, MandyRay! 😊
It is pretty and perfect! It is exceptional, even for your amazing work. I love it.
Thank you! 😊
Excellent change of pace. Well done. I felt like you did a great job getting the walls nice and even as you went down into the bowl. Lovely piece!
Thanks a lot, Doug! 😊
Phil, that one looks so perfect. I love it…
😊
absolutely beautiful, love the grey colour... would have loved to see more bark... but narrow walls are nice sometimes too... lol... thank you for sharing this piece with us.
I do like to change it up when I can, Celia, but I like more bark, too! 😊
Happy 4th Phil ...This bowl was perfect. It was a pleasure watching you create this bowl..
Thank you, Kim! 😊
Another beautiful piece of work!!!! Thanks!!!!
Thank you, Ray! 😊

Thank you, Loraine! 😊
Another beautiful bowl. As always, Phil, thank you for taking the time to share 🌞
Thanks for watching, Ray! 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dennis from Oregon... YOU ARE VERY GENERIOUS, HELPING OUT PHIL WITH ALL THAT WONDERFUL WOOD DENNIS... I really like that bark on the Myrtle wood...Looks like the bark inclusion is an anchor hanging over the side of your oval boat. FUN ONE PHIL.... TM
I see the anchor, Tuffy! I knew it should look like something but couldn't put it together at the time. Yes, generous of Dennis, you and so many others. I think I'm good till the end of my days! Thanks, buddy! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshopGuess that lets me off the hook unless I get a very special piece for you!
@@valeriehenschel1590 Yes Valerie, looks like Phil has hit the motherload. Phil can only turn so much in the many years he is interested in turning and looks like he is more than covered. I do still always look around as I am hiking but I think now that is just from habit?
Thinking back to when you first donated to Phil was a fun time watching Phil go through the process. I am interested and looking forward to the new shows Phil has for all of us with all this Mysterious Motherload. Going to be FUN....TM
Good morning 🌅, Phil , Great looking 👀 oval bowl, I have bad internet 🛜, I having to use phone, I think someone as damaged the fibre cable, stay safe keep up the great work,
Uh-oh, I hope it's fixed soon! 😊
Beautiful, Phil! Gorgeous.

Thanks a bunch, Carol! 😀
Very nicely done Phil, great shape and love the look of that bark.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
Many thanks, Jim! 😀
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil what do I think we'll yes it's perfect one of your best pieces yet, and the chatoyance I could see I plainly while it was still in the lathe before you put the sanding sealer on it. What made me laugh was when you talked about losing your marbles, but it got me thinking you have the skills to make yourself a beautiful marble solitaire game, I had to buy mine online. Cheers Phil.
Hahaha, thank you for the chuckles, John! 😊
Another beauty, Phil 👍
Thanks for all your work 😁
I'm so inspired by what you do, I can't wait to get my workshop up and running 😉
It will be great for you, Jon! Thanks! 😊
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thanks, Phil, I've been without my lathe for 2 years, since I moved house!!
I think I'm going to have to learn to turn all over again!! Lol 😂
Great job Phil, super finish.
Thank you, Malcolm! 😊
Looks very nice and can feel the smoothness here. The color is great on my computer.
😊
Some amazing grain in that wood. Sry I didn't comment last week, but did see the bowl. But as usual, always amazing. Have a good weekend Phil
Thanks, Bryan, you too! 😊

Good to know, Dennis, thank you! 😊
What a wonderful piece! Great video!
😊
Beautiful bowl Phil!! Bravo 👏🏾
Thank you so much 😀
This is a REALLY FABULOUS BOWL! The shape is great, just exactly enough bark, I like the light heart wood in the middle. The sheen is a great asset! You did another beautiful piece of art! Thank you!!❤
Thank you very much, Texana! 😊
I really like that one. A lot. Pretty piece of wood.
😊

Thank you! You too! 😊
Hi Phil Hang onto your marbles, I am trying to so our kids don't put us in the home for the elderly or whatever. lol Nice bowl, I had never heard of Myrtle before. You
are teaching an old dog new tricks!!! Thank you
Take care Bob
I've thought about that, Bob! I feel like if they try anything tricky, I can say to the judge "just look at my TH-cam channel, do I appear nuts?" LOL! Of course, I have to keep trying not to look nuts! 😊
Very beautiful bowl Phil.
Thanks, Jack! 😊
Another beauty Phil!
😀
Beautiful piece and love your coaching as you turn
Thank you, Lynn! 😊
Every time I watch you I learn something .... I thought giraffes had feathers enjoy the 4th my friend. 😂
LOL! You crack me up, Dennis! Thanks, buddy! 😊
Beautiful work Phil!
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
Smooth as silk. Very nice job.
