The girl was saying "rich heart" which is what most people who are poor but humble would say. They proved it by welcoming you into their home. My experience is the hyper wealthy in Indonesia have highly fortified palace like homes. The real palace is where people have very little but make you most welcome and usually will share whatever they have with you. Lovely people. They truly blessed you with their humble generosity.
Trying to learn Indonesian, the simple conversations are great to learn from. Not sure what the guy with the stick wanted to use it for, couldn’t see the fun in that
The guy was using the stick as a fishing rod pretending to fish for chickens. Glad you might be picking up a little basic Indonesian - hope I'm teaching bad habits, Ronald. :)
I ate at a warung in Denpasar in the 80's and it was like eating crushed glass!! By far the hottest dish I've ever eaten. Years ago I asked a chef in Thailand how many bird's eye chillies go into a Thai green papaya salad. 21. I asked if he would make it for me Thai hot but he refused, so I said 20. When it came to my table he sat down and watched me eat it shaking his head😆
It's a good choice on the area with a nice beach vibe. Friendly people. Slow down on the pans please. Thanks for the work you put into the translation.
Was in Lombok Kuta first and last time 16 years ago, only a few simple warungs on the beach, sand under your feet and goats walking around on the beach, loved it but looks like its changed and more busy now. Great vid Wayne and merry Christmas.
I am really enjoying coming on your journey across Indonesia with you Wayne . You are being far too harsh on yourself when you say you’re Indonesian is poor ! You can really tell they really enjoy you conversing in there language . By the way I hope you made it to the party and include it in your next video 😊
Merry Christmas Wayne, brave man trying the hot spices and foods! Not for me and avoid like the plague. Enjoying your Lombok journey and how lovely of those people to welcome you into their home. Safe travels.
Interesting the Banana test. I do the local small bottle of localised coco cola. Bananas are horrendously expensive in Bali because all of them are used in ceremonies that I have found. Out of curiosity, is the sambal purple ? The Samatran Warung opposite the main statue towards the Bintang super market is completely ridiculously hot. I tested it one day and I could not breath for about 1/2 minute...which doesn't sound like very long, but no breath unexpected for 30 seconds can be scary as you dont know when you will breath again... Happy travels.
Now this is the what I look for, I love rustic places like this, and always sad to see them get developed, hopefully I can make it to this place before it happens. I think you've said you been to Timor? I'm also intrigued by the lobster net, I think the lobster's spines get tangled up in those flowers so they can't get out or something like that.
Hi, bf. Yes, I've been to Timor and Rote island off Timor. From what I gathered with my poor Indonesian is the baby lobsters find these flower shaped things attractive to hide from predators. It wasn't long ago Kuta, Lombok, was a special little place of bamboo, exposed wood, shacks etc - then the international airport came, then the paved roads, then the Moto GP.
Thanks, Alec. I actually don't speak very good Indonesian, maybe it sounds like it but I am at the very (very) basic level. I started with palm cards for a month or two then just started talking to people. Indonesians are very patient if they see you making an effort.
Bah humbug Wayne,I escaped family lunch early. I like the vibe of Kuta, brings me back to my first time to Bali as long as no chance of bali belly like back then. Gosh, big party happening,I wouldn't manage such a big group&my friend who has gone to Indo for decades will never drink the spirits. I love kind, hospitable people as I gravitate towards humble people. Shame the last original street may not last because as much as I like my shopping&comforts at times, what I remember most is things that differ in a world becoming homogenised I saw footage of a girl carrying a ball blaster to keep troublesome animals at bay,the dogs would definitely concern me,however hopefully one day I can get there before it completely changes Cheers 🍻
Congratulations on your getaway, Stephanie. :) There are pockets of old Kuta still here and there I've found today, but for the most part it's changing - Kuta beach is unrecognizable to me. I do hope you're able to get back soon-ish before it's just a memory of what it was like.
Selemat Malam & have a Mahi-mahi Merry Christmas, Wayne! Paling senang snippets di Lombok, orang selalu smiling! Green with envy eating fish everyday! Makan dulu!☃🎄🎅🏄♀
Wayne would you say that sambal is a 4-alarm fire 🔥🚒 or 5-alarm fire? I had the hottest sauce ever in Amritsar eating an Amritsari Kulcha. I was sweating 🥵 bullets. I couldn't finish it of just like a Bombay sandwich I had in Vrindavan. And wow you've been going to Indonesia for 40 years now. You're in love with that part of the world. I don't know if I'll be around long enough to say I've been going to India 🇮🇳 for 40 years. It's only been almost 6 years now for me. I'm 52.

It's a good choice on the area with a nice beach vibe. Friendly people. Slow down on the pans please. Thanks for the work you put into the translation.
Cheers, MK. I do have to remember the pans are a bit fast or erratic sometims. Thanks for reminding me.

Thanks, Jonsey. Yeah, since the new international airport not far away then the Moto GP, it's much more developed.

Piesang is afrikaans/Dutch for Banana. Amazing.. the Dutch words are everywhere.
Thanks for the vlog.
Hi ms. yes, the Dutch had a part in Indonesian history.
Pisang is Malay. The Dutch took it from there.
Merry Christmas Wayne, brave man trying the hot spices and foods! Not for me and avoid like the plague. Enjoying your Lombok journey and how lovely of those people to welcome you into their home. Safe travels.

A lovely trip down Jl. Pariwisata😊 - very much like the '70s in Bali. Enjoy your week!
Thanks, Kevin. The 70's Bali comparison is often made here but I wonder for how much longer. All the best.
haha, you obviously don't live here
Indeed not. I plead guilty 😂@@anatta467
Great video Wayne!
Thanks, ss. Have a great day.

It was definitely darker in color than most others I've had. If you're not ready for these hot sambals they can make you jump, can't they? :)

and hope you keep the blogs coming in 2025.
By the way Wayne, how did you learn to speak such good Balinese. !?
Thanks, Alec. I actually don't speak very good Indonesian, maybe it sounds like it but I am at the very (very) basic level. I started with palm cards for a month or two then just started talking to people. Indonesians are very patient if they see you making an effort.

Thanks for the Kuta run down at the local level.
