This kit is the whole reason I was able to get into AR-15s, I’m a not so rich parent of 3 and if it wasn’t for this kit I’d never have been able to shoot or practice with my AR-15s, thank you CMMG 🙏
I love that you guys finally have a video about this out. I'm constantly being asked what the differences are between the various generations and now I can just send them this link.
I have a dedicated CMMG 22LR upper that has functioned flawlessly for years, I love it! It is far more accurate than a drop in conversion becasue of the 1:16 twist. I compete with it out to 200 yards.
Had a Ciener from decades ago. Bought some Blackdog mags and it ran well. Bought a CMMG and it is still working well. Then I picked up a dedicated CMMG upper. It’s nice to have an actual .22 barrel.
I've used your kits for quite some time and I find them to be an invaluable training tool. Thanks for making great conversion kits! My first AR15 was a CMMG M4 style WASP that I got as a kit about 15 years ago. I miss that gun (it lives with a family member now and is still running great, btw).
Tips from years of using this during 0 degree celius and lower(less energy in the bullet due to temp and low quality ammo tends to be on the cheap side with energy): Wash the inside of the magazines, or buy new ones. 22lr carbon and 22lr gunk that is applied to the bullets (sticky stuff) gets inside and causes failure to feed. Polish the steel, yes you heard me, pull the BCG and the plate apeart, and polish it good, as in the contact surfaces.(the plate and the bcg touching area, NOT the slide area touching the inside of the upper) Do not use oil on it after. Polish did more for reliability than anything else. Use fine paste, as in polish paste, as you are just supposed to make the surface smoorth and reduce resistance, not remove metal! Even the new cmmg charging handle gets things stuck. Check the upper gas port and see if you can fill in more mass to close it off in the cmmg custom charing handle. Or make a custom upper, and reove the gas pipe and stake the hole in the barrel. Or get a actual 22lr barrel that has a 1:16 or something, made for 22lr. Even with all of the above...it still fails, but less. Major problem with 22, is not the solution here, it is terrible amunition. Most failures are FTE and FTF, and this is a complex problem created by a multitude of causes. not just one thing. The above can helps to alleviate some of it.
I bought one of these off of a friend yesterday, he said that he didn't like the point of impact shift. 🙄 But I've been running the hell out of it today and I love it! The only gripe I have is this thing is the king of light strikes. It could be because of my LaRue trigger, but I don't know. I removed the firing pin spring, and the thing runs like a sewing machine. I might get a stronger hammer spring so I can reinstall the firing pin spring, because I assume it's there for a reason. I was surprised at how well it runs subs, once I found that out, I wanted to marry the damn thing. 😂 I just can't get over how much fun running subsonic .22s I an AR is! The money savings is pretty damn nice, too.
Best $120 I've spent. Saved me probably $2k in ammunition costs. Have to say to not expect stellar accuracy out of the barrel insert, but the dedicated barrels work fine. Get better groups out of a 9 in cmmg barrel than a 20 in 223 wylde.
I recently bought the Echo kit and two extra mags and it runs like the scalded dog Johnny B says they do. I also own a pre-Banshee MkG 45 and the new Dissent Mk47. I’m proud to be a CMMG fanboy. I like both their products and their people.
Started with a cmmg upper and couldn't get it to run on a standard lower with three different triggers. Got the borebuddy reliability kit and their black dog mags and it ran great. Bought my next three barrels and bcg from borebuddy and have had zero issues past crummy ammo.
I installed a kit on my AR and really liked it. However, I decided I didn't want to shoot dirty 22LR in that gun. So, I bought a CMMG 22LR barrel and built a dedicated 22LR AR. I had to modify the adapter BCG to use with 22LR barrel. Easily done . That rifle shoots great! Thanks CMMG!
I have a gen2 and the OG grey mags I bought as a reman from your alls booth at Knob Creek. It's been through 2 firing pins and several sets of springs. The grey mags are sporting the new Black Dog anti tilt follower and springs. I have a fully functional 3d pinted LRBHO mag that works with the Catch 22 for these kits now.
The 'Original' kit was made by Jonathan Arthur Ciener and referred to as the JAC. Later a man named Rick Kuhel (sp?) made dedicated barrels for the JAC conversion with a feed ramp adapter that replaced the chamber adapter. This meant you had a dedicated .22 upper, but it was ridiculously reliable and you weren't spitting bare lead down your good .223/5.56 barrel. The JAC kits were hard to get ahold of because of lower production numbers and the Kuhel barrels were even fewer so. CMMG was the fist to provide units to supply the market, but first runs had some issues and could be finicky. Now they are making units the standard for AR .22 conversions.
I have three conversion kits, these all work great with the old-style mags and the 22lr charging handle. Before replacing the new style, mags and adding the 22lr charging handle I could not go 10 rounds without one problem or another, it seems like the feed angle is different on those new mags.
I didn't know there was a probability of a jam using the standard charging handle. That hasn't happened to me in thousands of 22. But it's good to know. I love this adapter. It works perfectly fine with the ammo I have in a small 4" 1:7 5.56 upper works perfectly. The ammo I have doesn't shoot very accurate out of my 16" 1:9 dissipator upper.
I've got one of the older kits with the brass collar that I've been using for close to ten years. I use it in conjunction with a Boonie Packer Better Mag Adaptor, so that I can run the conversion kit with S&W 15/22 mags. It has been awesome!
I bought mine based on all of the good reviews. My experience has been terrible. Feed issues, casings getting stuck. Tried Winchester, CCI and Aguila. Also added the bore buddy and upgrade kit. In frustration I emailed CMMG customer service and never got a response. Bought a 10/22 and it runs flawlessly.
Or….you can take a McDonald’s straw and stick that in the CH 🤷♂️ But I would totally advise you buy the CMMG CH. I have 7 of these kits and I just added a YHM extension on the CMMG CH and it runs amazing
Bought one last month. First mag was a nightmare. Probably 10 problems. Tried a higher velocity ammo and oiled it again…same issue. 3rd mag was CCI mini-mags and it worked better still several problems. Went back to the first ammo, brown box Federal bulk and it shot flawless. Then it started eating ammo like crazy. Burned through maybe 150 more rounds and other than the occasional spit of gas it is working great.
I made a PVC pipe holder that stores either the Bravo or the regular BCG depending on which one is not installed in the rifle. Just a short length of PVC pipe with two friction fit caps. I wrap the BCG in a piece of paper towel and slide it in the tube. I lost the rubber boot, other wise I'd keep it on the conversion kit. What size rubber hose (gas line) do I need for a snug fit? Lastly: Put a quarter between the BCG and the buffer spring will reduce the rattle when the conversion kit is installed. It acts like a shim and puts just enough pressure against the BCG. Just push it into the buffer tube as you close the upper.
I've had one of the (apparently very old) phosphate kits for ages. Got some blackdog mags at some point along the way and it's been a hoot to shoot. I think I'm going to have to upgrade to the newer stainless kits so the wife and I can both shoot for cheap.
I had my old kit with a brass colar split on the brass colar. Cmmg was awesome with warranty, and shipped a replacement quickly with no fuss. The magazines have lasted through thousands and thousands of rounds suppressed and not even cleaned. Fantastic product, fantastic company. Everyone should own this kit.
Just some positive criticism.....When holding things up to the camera please hold it very still and count to 5 Mississippi's before moving it. Seeing someone fidget an object around in real life is easy. Watching through a camera even at 60fps is difficult.
I run one of these in an MCX and needed to buy an overpriced aftermarket part to be able to use my charging handle. I would love it if you guys sold an adapter for the MCX like you do for the dissent
I recently bought the CMMG BRAVO. 22 Conversion Kit to use with my BCM® Standard 11.5" Carbine Complete Upper. Zeroed using Remington 223 at 50 yards (6 cold bore shots - all within a 1" paster.) Installed the conversion kit, shot off the bench at 25 yards. Every shot was at least 4" low and right. So disappointing. I was expecting 2.5" or less at 25 yards. Good enough to practice quick transitions on IDPA (-0 ) or 8" plates without having to hold 4" above the intended point of impact. It does function without any other problems though.
2 years ago I bought one from PSA.... Unfortunately I got a defective one, which was really disappointing, and sent it back for a refund...it ran the first mag beautifully but by the 2nd man it loaded up so bad the impact was a foot off. I measured the end of the bore and it was seriously under-sized thus the build up and bad accuracy. I was really disappointed. I won't order another just because I hate having to send stuff back... I always want to buy the dedicated full upper but those got abit pricey too.
I assembled my own dedicated 22lr upper a few years ago, I used the 9" barrel. Besides occasional bad 22lr round it runs great & is stupid fun! I've seen upgraded fireing pins & extractors made from a harder metal. But I haven't had any issues so I haven't tried them. Have you? Is your 22lr bcg still completly factory?
Who were other makers of the .22 conversion kits? I have one of the older units and from what I remember there were no markings on it. Somewhere it is buried with some old parts and tools that are buried in the garage.
Are you guys thinking about or maybe toying with producing a .22WMR version of your kit? I’m sure there’s a market for it and a lot of people still love the magnum.
Can confirm the bravo kit works fine in 223 wylde barrels. There's noticeably more fouling in the bore but otherwise there is no impact to the shooting experience.
What's the timeline on the different versions? I have a brass collar on mine that I got around 2018 or 19. Works fine in both of my 223 wylde rifles. I also keep the protective sleeve for when I store it
There is an anti bounce weight sold as an option to add on. We see far more that don't need them than do, so it's a cost savings since most people don't need it.
i bought the complete upper, ( BCG, upper handguard flash hider, dust cover, 22lr charge handle with 3 mags) but i see you dont offer it as a package anymore i want the ambi handle but im too poor to spend it on a dedicated 22lr setup
The grey/green mags were fine if you only loaded 20-22 rounds. I keep the rubber boot with all my conversion bolts, it keeps the chamber extension? From getting damaged when not in use. I love them. Got me and mine thru the thin times during the plandemic when ammo was scarce or way too high priced. Great value.
being that I'm a loser poor. I still cannot afford the CMMG .22lr conversion kit. and I absolutely want/need one, so bad that I would give my left _______ for one, and @52 I do "not" want anymore kids anyways. However I want the CMMG .22lr conversion.
Just got mine jams every other shot not sure what i need to get to fix it but i feel like if it needed something else to work that it should have came in the kit like the charging handle
I had one of the ones with the collar until the chamber adapter ruptured. It ran great. You guys sent me your newer one piece chamber adapter, and this one does not feed reliably. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
I keep having failure to feed and atove pipe issues. Using 36 grain Winchester white box 22lr. Occasionally have a fail to eject too, not sure what is going on with it
These have been piston compatible for a long time. The cut on top of the bolt allows for the piston to move without interference. If it's long stroke, you can just remove the piston (which is likely attached to bcg anyway) and be fine too.
I love mine. It's great for those that don't plink. Have had many first timers love it too. Fingers start feeling like a Pin Cushon after a while though. *Please Make A Speedloader!*
I bought two of those kits a few years ago with the three black mags. One kit for me, one for my oldest son. Do you have the part number for the better charging handle to use? Thanks...
Ahhh, I found it 😁 ZEROED Ambi Charging Handle, .22LR Built to the same degree as our other CMMG® ZEROED™ charging handles, the CMMG ZEROED .22 LR ambidextrous charging handle was designed specifically for our .22 LR Conversions as well as our dedicated .22 LR Uppers/Bolts
There are a few variables that it could be. It would likely be easier for you to have a discussion with our customer service team to have them help narrow it down. Ammo type is usually the biggest culprit. Some .22 ammo is just finicky. We also have a tips and tricks video about buzzing the chamber that could be something you try. You can contact our CS if that doesn't help. th-cam.com/video/v8Pq0ONsUoc/w-d-xo.html
I KEEP the rubber boot on when not in use! Edit: all my kits run Flawlessly, i give them as stocking stuffs for Christmas, well before Bidenomics i did.
If you see how many we sell, the people that have issues are quite a low percentage overall. Unfortunately the people with no issues aren't as vocal as those with issues. Unfortunately it is .22lr which can be finicky itself. There is good ammo, and bad ammo. While we'd love to say they'll shoot everything, some ammo just doesn't work well in everything. We find 36grain copper jacketed projectiles are most reliable. We use bulk Winchester or Federal for our test firing, so nothing extravagant.
I've had one of these for about four years. I've shot thousands of rounds through it. It's incredibly reliable. Especially for 22. I rarely have problems with it and if I do it's because it's dirty or the ammo. This kit is one of the better investments I've ever made tbh. I don't have the charging handle for it either 🤷 I love this thing. If I had more money I'd buy one for everyone I know cause they're awesome and make training really cheap.
This kit is the whole reason I was able to get into AR-15s, I’m a not so rich parent of 3 and if it wasn’t for this kit I’d never have been able to shoot or practice with my AR-15s, thank you CMMG 🙏
Any thoughts on the Mantis Blackbeard X targeting system?
I love that you guys finally have a video about this out. I'm constantly being asked what the differences are between the various generations and now I can just send them this link.
I love my CMMG .22LR stainless steel conversion kit. Mine even works with the original notched hammer in my 1986 AR-15.
I have probably put 20k rounds through my old bravo kit and have never once had a shell end up in a standard ar15 charging handle.
I've used your kits for quite some time and I find them to be an invaluable training tool. Thanks for making great conversion kits! My first AR15 was a CMMG M4 style WASP that I got as a kit about 15 years ago. I miss that gun (it lives with a family member now and is still running great, btw).

You should check out borebuddy parts for your cmmg setup. Best thing ever.
These kits are awesome. I had an older one which I shot out and your customer service was at better than I could have asked.
I got one of the Evolution magazine I wish yall start back making them I like the look and they worked fine for me
I bought one of these off of a friend yesterday, he said that he didn't like the point of impact shift. 🙄
But I've been running the hell out of it today and I love it!

Got the stainless with the extra weight added. Not sure, if it's even needed. Works like a treat and saves soo much money.
Ìve been using this kit in my seekins precision. 223 wild for yrs and never had an issue other then out running the bolt! These are awsome!
Thank you for the video!!!!! Funny you mentioned wylde.... my wylde ars are the only ones that have major issues

Brilliant design, everyone can play as long as they want, I love mine.

Nice to be able to train with your actual bedside gun rather than a different 22
I’ve almost got one of these kits several times. Going to have to eventually haha. Great video
I have a gen2 and the OG grey mags I bought as a reman from your alls booth at Knob Creek. It's been through 2 firing pins and several sets of springs. This was a must with my 57 Dissent....great video

Oh, and I also put a small piece of velcro on the front of the magazine to reduce any play. Again, it works great!
Or….you can take a McDonald’s straw and stick that in the CH 🤷♂️
But I would totally advise you buy the CMMG CH. I have 7 of these kits and I just added a YHM extension on the CMMG CH and it runs amazing

I just bought a 3 mag kit a month ago from Brownell's...... haven't try it out yet.... This is the best item to have if you have an AR....
I got the 22lr bolt and 4.5" barrel combo and i love it. Able to build my own custom banshee, but i use M&P 22 magazines.
Polished it up… runs great with the binary. Only thing that sucks is gotta zero the sights every time you switch back. Idk maybe I’m missing something
Cmmg has the best customer service in gun industry period.
I did that too. Got a lot of looks when I pulled that pipe out of my range bag too. lol -Mike
A "bolt tube" like what endmills and some other products ship in that was the right size for a BCG would be really nice.
You missed the best setup. Using the 22lr conversion kit with the anti bounce adapter in full auto!😀
Patiently waiting on last round bolt hold open.
Love the conversion !
I run one of these in an MCX and needed to buy an overpriced aftermarket part to be able to use my charging handle. I would love it if you guys sold an adapter for the MCX like you do for the dissent
Make the forward assist adapter weighted and adjustable. Like the Bore Buddy system.
Love these kits
Great video. I have the early kit. I always wondered if the current magazine would work with it.
You didn't mention whether they will work with full auto lower. Or Registered search??
I have two units and dozens of magaines! I have the forward assist adaptor, but it's not needed at all.
Can you make one for a gas piston gun? Like the brn 180 416 Jakl or something?
I do need a birthday gift.
What's the timeline on the different versions? I have a brass collar on mine that I got around 2018 or 19. Works fine in both of my 223 wylde rifles. I also keep the protective sleeve for when I store it
Just got 22barrel with colar, I'm going to see if phosphate unit will work with it. I didn't realize they had 22 specific charging handle.
Would be nice to see them being sold with some of those aftermarket bolt weights, they're kinda necessary.
There is an anti bounce weight sold as an option to add on. We see far more that don't need them than do, so it's a cost savings since most people don't need it.
i bought the complete upper, ( BCG, upper handguard flash hider, dust cover, 22lr charge handle with 3 mags) but i see you dont offer it as a package anymore
i want the ambi handle but im too poor to spend it on a dedicated 22lr setup
Any plans to make a gen 3 nah with stronger springs? They’re too weak to actuate the catch22. A windowed or metal version would also be sweet
Ever try the Ceiner ones?
The grey/green mags were fine if you only loaded 20-22 rounds. I keep the rubber boot with all my conversion bolts, it keeps the chamber extension? From getting damaged when not in use. I love them. Got me and mine thru the thin times during the plandemic when ammo was scarce or way too high priced. Great value.
It works fine in 223 wilde. I've done it a bunch of times. 👍👍
Good to know!
Borebuddy took it a step further 😊
being that I'm a loser poor.
Do the new mags lock the bolt back on the bolt catch somehow instead of the follower? That would be cool
I had one of the ones with the collar until the chamber adapter ruptured. It ran great. You guys sent me your newer one piece chamber adapter, and this one does not feed reliably. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Now you need a magazine loader assistant..
On the latest kit did you all also upgrade the firing pin ?
when will cmmg support last round bolt hold open with the new gen 2 magazines
The only thing I dislike about the kit would be loading the magazines
Check out the Lighnin' Loader by McFadden. We use it for events and it's a lifesaver!
I've never (knock on wood) had a case go up in the charging handle
I keep having failure to feed and atove pipe issues. Using 36 grain Winchester white box 22lr. Occasionally have a fail to eject too, not sure what is going on with it
Piston upper compatible version next?
These have been piston compatible for a long time. The cut on top of the bolt allows for the piston to move without interference. If it's long stroke, you can just remove the piston (which is likely attached to bcg anyway) and be fine too.
I love mine. It's great for those that don't plink. Have had many first timers love it too. Fingers start feeling like a Pin Cushon after a while though. *Please Make A Speedloader!*
Check out the McFadden Lightnin' Loader. We sell them and use them at all of the events we attend. Incredible loader!
@@CMMG *Thank You!!!!*
22 lr needs 1:16 twist,1;8 dont work well. Do a bolt and barrel change! Bear Creek!!
What’s the best ammo to use in it. I bought one and the complete bore buddy kit
Do conversion kits like this for 5.56 AK’s?
@CMMG quickly questioned I got a AR 22LR can I just get a 556 upper or I need a lower as well ??
Ones have been made for the AK platform before with disappointing results…but I bet CMMG could make a reliable Ak .22 conversion kit.
@@sktona no it wouldn’t. Look at the ones already made.
@@sktona that is NOT an issue. Learn what you’re talking about before you speak. The conversion has a .22 cal sleeve on it.
@@sktona the sleeve is not what makes them unreliable…Stupid.
@@sktona the sleeve is not what makes the action not cycle.
@@sktona you’ve proven yet again that you have no idea what you’re talking about.
I bought two of those kits a few years ago with the three black mags.
One kit for me, one for my oldest son.
Do you have the part number for the better charging handle to use?
Thanks...
Ahhh, I found it 😁
ZEROED Ambi Charging Handle, .22LR
Built to the same degree as our other CMMG® ZEROED™ charging handles, the CMMG ZEROED .22 LR ambidextrous charging handle was designed specifically for our .22 LR Conversions as well as our dedicated .22 LR Uppers/Bolts
Does this kit work on piston driven ARs?
Now make one with a heavier bolt, rubber bumper, dead blow buffer weights and other upgrades all built in.
Do all of the 22 BGC's work with all the various mag generations? In other words, can I get a new BGC with an old mag and run it?
Yes. The geometry for feeding is the same. Should be good to go. We still have tons of old magazines for events that we use.
Are they full mass now? Do I still need a sear trip kit? Does it still take the same CMMG 22lr mags?
OK.. so .. What about Mkg 9mm to 22lr? ?
Has anyone made a .22magnum kit yet? Or complete upper?
...seems your kits were originally made by Ceiner???
I thought that also , I have a old ciener , with all metal mags !
Why did yall stop making the 10mm in the dissent or did yall make it a nd stop or what hell happened
We've never made the DISSENT in 10mm. It's only been a BANSHEE and we still make it.
@@CMMG why don’t yall make a 10mm in it dissent
my kit has a crack running down the neck of the stainless steel 556 "case" after a couple thousand rounds. :-(
is it still safe to shoot?
Contact our Customer Service team to help resolve that.
Does the adapter for the dissent work with other side charging uppers? Or just the dissent?
just the DISSENT
Mine catches casings and jams non stop. whats the fix
Me too. Protects the chamber adapter when not in use, in case I drop it off a shelf or something.
@@CutlassOutdoors exactly! I store my in a go bag, and it gets thrown around!
Unfortunately I have a PWS in 223 wylde
2 years ago I bought the Banshee chambered in 10mm, can I convert that to the 22lr?
The barrel diameters would be incompatible. .223/5.56 projectiles are the same diameter as .22 lr
How about not constantly shaking the object you're trying to show, set it on a table and do a close-up.
I’ve been interested in one but I’ve seen people have reliability issues with them which makes me hesitant.
Ammo, change ammo. I even had this issue with a 10/22. It simply didn't like that ammo, so it was used in another
Mine jams constantly
