Edit: Info, links etc below, but first - if you are reading this, and are a fan of my work, please consider supporting me on Patreon, it is genuinely crucial to the longevity of this channel, thank you so much to supporters!: www.patreon.com/Gavinski Giveaway winners for Insta YT, Twitter and Patreon have now been picked and contacted, congrats to Roland and Fernando (Patreon), Rijge (YT), DCSI łnsta) and Greg (Twitter) 🎉FAC PunchLab, an AUv3 for iPad/iPhone (link below), is a versatile tool for sound design, mixing etc. It does have some similarities to Decap's Knock app, but it is more versatile. I personally would probably grab this or Caelum Beef over Knock, especially given the price, though Knock is king when it comes to dialing in a sound quickly. Here, I demo a few different use cases. This video is not a systematic walkthrough, but after watching, you will a) have a good idea of how to use the app and b) get inspiration for using it creatively. Note that the AUM session file for this is available on one of my Patreon tiers, a potential massive timesaver if you want to experiment with the apps used here yourself: www.patreon.com/posts/punchlab-patreon-97467940 We focus on four main examples. The first example focuses on using PunchLab to emphasize the attack in percussive sounds. In this particular case, the audio being processed is chopped typewriter samples. I really love playing with these kinds of mechanical sounds, and PunchLab is perfect for giving them a lot more sonic interest than they might otherwise have-a lot of bite and crispness. I then process these percussive mechanical sounds with various effects. We then move on to the next example, which I describe as ‘making birds,’ a reference to Hainbach's description of something he likes to do with the AudioThing app ‘Lines’. With PunchLab, we delve into some of the effects like the resonant filtering and audio rate modulation. As you'll hear, these kinds of sounds are also excellent when recorded into something like Gauss, pitched down, and then layered. The next example takes two instances of AU Gen X, one slightly detuned from the other, both processed very heavily using PunchLab with lots of modulation going on. We then see how interesting it can be to really mangle some vocals using PunchLab. We then mangle a vocal and turn the results into an MPE synth in Salome. Finally, we look at doing some extreme sound design on an instance of Phosphor 3 by Audio Damage. In these latter two examples, I show you how sounds processed with PunchLab can sound really great when made into instruments for Salome. 🟧 GIVEAWAY winners have been picked, but details were as follows, subscribe to the channel so as not to miss out on future giveaways: Note: I have a giveaway for this on my Patreon, on all tiers, with very high chances of winning: www.patreon.com/Gavinski. Very satisfying to see how Punchlab increases perceived loudness with a sound like a typewriter. Combustor makes it sound like a synth FM pluck (physically modeled as you said)! Very methodical and organized how you demonstrate these apps, thank you Gav! (P.S., noticed your voice ducks perfectly when your voiceover comes in. What’s your secret?) congratulations on starting your Patreon as we start getting into “the game” ourselves. We don’t skip ads for our TH-cam friends!
Great demo and app... FAC doesn't disappoint... This definitely cuts down on my FX layers in AUM... Some good bread and butter settings and so colorful to boot...
same here I always end up adding so many different audio effects sometimes it can become overwhelming, i like that this has multiple features and such a purtee interface@@GavinskisTutorials
This looks like a great app for not only bringing out some punch but giving some other character to a track. Would love to win this. Thanks for the demo, Gav.
You won, congrats! Please send me an email to the email address posted in the About section of my channel and also send a reply to this message here in YT just before you email me. In your email mention who you are and which FAC app for iOS you want. If I don't hear from you within 24 hrs I'll pick another winner, cheers! Gav
I received this as a gift and yeah I’m glad i did…. I’m using it for drums of course but also making some really trippy effects combined with Kosmonaut and Kajita … poor KQ Dixie will never be the same lol
Oh heck yea, I’d love to win a copy of CH aka PunchLab. Love Fred’s work and this is something I could use. Cheers Gav, as always another great demonstration. I’m fast on the draw, but just read instructions, I’ll enter in others. Cheers.
@@GavinskisTutorials yes- Fred made it a pair of shoes. The one worn on iOS and the one on Mac…It is ok for me that it‘s a seperate purchase, but I would enjoy that it would support different plug-in-formats like vst3 - unfortunately there is no plug-in-wrapper that converts auv3 to vst3
It kinda looks like Shaperbox from Cableguys, the looks and the rearrangeable signal path. Not a bad thing IMO, as this seems to be more percussion oriented. And it's not like having clean looks is unique to Shaperbox :) Looks good though, I could see being useful in more than just percussion, I'd imagine basslines could benefit from this sort of robust processing. Can the modules be duplicated, e.g. having a tone control both pre and post distortion?
It’s an unbelievable great „good-maker“. It‘s more versatile than knock… and what else - worth every single Penny - for those of us who didn‘t win. But hey - for pre-order pricing it was kind of a steal
Hey Baze! Yeah, probably gets my vote over knock simply for having more mileage for experimentation. Knock still has the 'stupidly easy and quick to dial in' edge of the market cornered though
Very informative, I really appreciate the different scenarios with other applications, notably midi lfo. Thank you for paving the way for sound exploration.🪐

yes to Punch Lab .Thanks.

Good question, seems not tho, can just be reordered. You can use more than one instance tho as a workaround I guess
very nice.

Nice tutorial, please enter me in the giveaway. How does PunchLab compare to knock?
I’d get PunchLab over Knock for versatility, unless speed of dialing in is your priority, in which case I would get Knock
ah, yes… The birds. I came across this resemblance independently messing around with such things.
It’s a pleasure to discover, right?!
Monstrously warped.
Amen!
Insanely irritating that you would demo this app without using a single drum sound, lol...
Plenty of other ppl did that I'm sure
