I finally have the chance to reminisce and visit places from home in U-Belt esp my time experience of stay here way back 2010 during my CE review days on Legarda Street and Recto Ave. while I stayed in a dorm in San Lorenzo Ruiz Student Catholic Center until 2017. Cherished the length of years where I meet friends and colleagues coming from different provinces in the Philippines.
I enjoyed this tour video and brought back memories during my college years in UE and also for my wife who studied in CEU. Noval na first time ko maranasan yung hanggang bewang na baha at pagsimba sa St. Jude. Dagdag pa ang mastranded dahil sa Bagyong Ondoy! grabe talaga! U-Belt has a spot in my heart/life hahaha. Wahhhh!! Thank you for this! Reminiscing my student days in Mendiola!! I miss La Consolacion, the nuns there.. it was still an exclusive all-girls school back then... wish I could turn back the hands of time.... I miss being young, he he! 😊
I studied at 3 schools around that university belt area from 1969 to 1983. During my last few years of college, that area is a chaotic place. Lots of vendors, sidewalk hawkers cheat on you, lots of pickpockets victimizing students, lots of vices and illegal restaurants, drugs, prostitution. You name it they have it. There are a lot of changes all around but one thing have not changed, the filipino habit of using the sidewalk to park their motorcycles, trash and a lot of annoyances. Overal, it is good to see some progress within that area, it is still a long way to go before you can walk SAFELY within the university belt area. Great video.

FEU has long had a campus tour that highlights the architecture, (i.e., art deco) and art around campus inside the buildings --they even have trained campus guides-- all managed by the President's Committee on Art & Culture. It's all very well organized. Very proud of it.

recto to morayta sidewalk is still dingy & filthy BUT there's a sidewalk now! it looks pedestrian friendly. walking from recto to morayta was an unpleasant experience. it was smelly, dirty & unsafe. seeing the U belt after 3 decades brings back memories. tks for your video! there's an small "short cut" from arellano/sta catlina that leads to holy spirit. it'spleasant walk near a river. there's a nice well preserved old house there too. you avoid the mendiola traffic on that route..

Thank you for posting. Its been a while since I visited the area. I used to teach at National U and my daily walk is from NU to Q. Blvd via Bustillos, Legarda then Azcarraga smd I take the jeepney Gasak Recto to go home to Malabon. Sad that you missed NU in your walk.

I take a few travelers to these streets when I was staying in hostels in Manila. Everyone just loved the university belt, especially the areas of UST, just reality. Beautiful video.

Grade school at Holy Spirit from 1977-1979 and my grandma lived at JP Laurel (formerly Aviles St), turn left instead of turning right into Aguila St on the video. We could drive into JP Laurel and in front of Malacanang. Now the street is closed beside Holy Spirit. So different now, especially since I haven't seen it in decades.

It's clean and peaceful because there's no face to face classes. It's actually like a ghost town. Even mcdo morayta (the first in the country) closed. National bookstore recto hopefully will reopen. Sad but yes I never seen uni belt as clean and orderly as now. Please it's not because of isko.
It seems cleaner and spacious now. Less vendors and not much people. When I lived here in Manila in the 80s it seemed so crowded and bustling w/ people.
I had an appointment with the dean at the university and you forgot to pick me up. Now I won’t be educated . I want to learn. 😭. What a cool area. I was there back in 2018 and chatted with locals. Told them I am Mexican and they would bring up Marquez and the Great Manny. Wish to be back and just spend a whole day there. Ty for the memories

Thank you for this video! I finally have the chance to reminisce and visit places from home in U-Belt esp my time experience of stay here way back 2010 during my CE review days on Legarda Street and Recto Ave. while I stayed in a dorm in San Lorenzo Ruiz Student Catholic Center until 2017. Cherished the length of years where I meet friends and colleagues coming from different provinces in the Philippines.
I enjoyed this tour video and brought back memories during my college years in UE and also for my wife who studied in CEU. ang nostalgic naman manood neto! I remember my review days. ay review years pala hahaha. For 3 years nandito ako, from P. Noval na first time ko maranasan yung hanggang bewang na baha at pagsimba sa St. Jude. Dagdag pa ang mastranded dahil sa Bagyong Ondoy! grabe talaga! U-Belt has a spot in my heart/life hahaha. Wahhhh!! Thank you for this! Reminiscing my student days in Mendiola!! I miss La Consolacion, the nuns there.. it was still an exclusive all-girls school back then... wish I could turn back the hands of time.... I miss being young, he he! 😊
I studied at 3 schools around that university belt area from 1969 to 1983. During my last few years of college, that area is a chaotic place. Lots of vendors, sidewalk hawkers cheat on you, lots of pickpockets victimizing students, lots of vices and illegal restaurants, drugs, prostitution. You name it they have it. There are a lot of changes all around but one thing have not changed, the filipino habit of using the sidewalk to park their motorcycles, trash and a lot of annoyances. Overal, it is good to see some progress within that area, it is still a long way to go before you can walk SAFELY within the university belt area. Great video.

FEU has long had a campus tour that highlights the architecture, (i.e., art deco) and art around campus inside the buildings --they even have trained campus guides-- all managed by the President's Committee on Art & Culture. It's all very well organized. Very proud of it.
sobrang ganda sa na ng maynila kkung na titrim yung puno, or halaman, or madaling salita may landscape artist na nagmemaintain,walang wiring, align and modern design yung mga kalsada
recto to morayta sidewalk is still dingy & filthy BUT there's a sidewalk now! it looks pedestrian friendly. walking from recto to morayta was an unpleasant experience. it was smelly, dirty & unsafe. seeing the U belt after 3 decades brings back memories. tks for your video! there's an small "short cut" from arellano/sta catlina that leads to holy spirit. it'spleasant walk near a river. there's a nice well preserved old house there too. you avoid the mendiola traffic on that route..

Thank you for posting. Its been a while since I visited the area. I used to teach at National U and my daily walk is from NU to Q. Blvd via Bustillos, Legarda then Azcarraga smd I take the jeepney Gasak Recto to go home to Malabon. Sad that you missed NU in your walk.

I take a few travelers to these streets when I was staying in hostels in Manila. Everyone just loved the university belt, especially the areas of UST, just reality. Beautiful video.

Grade school at Holy Spirit from 1977-1979 and my grandma lived at JP Laurel (formerly Aviles St), turn left instead of turning right into Aguila St on the video. We could drive into JP Laurel and in front of Malacanang. Now the street is closed beside Holy Spirit. So different now, especially since I haven't seen it in decades.

It's clean and peaceful because there's no face to face classes. It's actually like a ghost town. Even mcdo morayta (the first in the country) closed. National bookstore recto hopefully will reopen. Sad but yes I never seen uni belt as clean and orderly as now. Please it's not because of isko.
It seems cleaner and spacious now. Less vendors and not much people. When I lived here in Manila in the 80s it seemed so crowded and bustling w/ people.
I had an appointment with the dean at the university and you forgot to pick me up. Now I won’t be educated . I want to learn. 😭.
What a cool area. I was there back in 2018 and chatted with locals. Told them I am Mexican and they would bring up Marquez and the Great Manny. Wish to be back and just spend a whole day there. Ty for the memories
