Q1 about queens: yes it will however after you build a queen it will have enough for inject. But DO NOT inject right away, wait for next rotation of injects to keep queens in sync without pulling. Q2 about ctrl click: if you ctrl click in the control group box, yes it will select them across the entire map. If you ctrl click a unit in the main game window it will only select on screen.
double click and ctrl click are the same but it is hard to doubleclick sth that is moving in the middle of other units that are moving aswell (esp if small + fast aka speedling) so basically ctrl click is for people above 17 years of age
Don't know much about these queens are or how they operate, but I sure do enjoy when the expert on the camera savages the novices with words and actions
Only race I ever wanted to learn and it happens to be the hardest one, but you make it so simple... while I'm over there trying to learn what does what. Not even talking about good timings...
@@luke7503zerg is difficult early because your injects aren't perfect you have to make a choice between drones or units while other races can just build both
1) When should you start getting spores and spines at your bases when playing with roach hydra? And how many should you get? 2) What is the optimal defense against a cannon rush as zerg? Do you cancel the nat and build it somewhere else, or try to prevent the cannons from going up? Or something else? 3) Assuming you scout it, should you pull drones against a proxy 2/3/4 rax? What is the optimal defense there? 4) I know Serral uses it, but is an early ovie speed a good move for lower level players? if not, when should you get ovie speed/burrow? Because we're not building lings (respecting larvae and all that), is it a good idea to get ovie speed instead of ling speed? 5) Adding on to the last question, what should lower level players use burrow (assuming we remember to get it) for?
1. After you max out while you cross the map unless you need spores in which case 4:30 is okay timing 2. Depends on the rush but building elsewhere is usually v good if they build more than 1 cannon else pull 5 drones, have 1 chase probe 3. Spines I think, drones 2 per rad if it’s only just started 4. Focus on perfect macro before scouting, slow Ovies will get the job done at our level anyway 5. Use burrow to block bases with a couple lings, burrow drones if attacked, get it if your floating a lot on 4 base. Imperfect answers but good enough up till high plat
Trying to calculate the minerals lost to promoting drones can't be so simple as 50 + 60/min/drone. By that logic, every larva could have been made into a drone mining for the whole game, so every larva-based unit has the same recurring cost. It also presumes there is an unlimited number of minerals, and disregards optimal worker count targets. There will be some inverse relationship between your total number of drones/proximity to max supply and the hidden cost of using the drone for construction. If you had a single drone left and you turned it into a spore, that would be vastly more impactful than using your 86th drone when your minerals lines are essentially saturated.
At 2:56:40 you missed what mothwithashotgun meant 👅 He was talking about how, at 9 minutes, you diverted your army away from the base to go catch a bunch of fleeing probes
I've always been doing the inject queens in one group thing since WoL, it's crazy that you say it's new, out of the millions of players, a few were bound to be doing that, I was a gold player in 2011, for reference. There is a cycle button to scroll / pan over all your hatcheries too, so you don't even need the F keys for the injections.

I started playing sc2 in the last month because sc1 has problem running on windows 11. Ive been watching your videos for newbie tips and you made my day with the hot keying inject queens. Only because ive been doing it since i started only because it was easier. So no matter how much i struggle catching on with my gold 2 azz i feel like i accomplished something lol.

thanks 2 you i will return to SC. But i have a question what do you think was the most skilled era in SC History. I asked cause last time i played queens were able to fly.
Question about gas-less opener: It seems like you float a hatch worth of minerals with that opener, since you don't have drones mining gas and you don't spend resources on ling speed. Should you maybe use those extra minerals to plop down a macro hatch? More hatches=more queens and more larva if you can afford the mineral cost, right? Also, since you're skipping ling speed and getting extra minerals anyway, is it viable to go pool first to try to get queens faster and skip building lings altogether since slow lings are extra useless and I'd rather have those four lings be two drones instead?
Hey, more on that inject method you're talking about -- I have camera hotkeys for my bases too, but I found that using spacebar (or whatever key works for you) for the "next base" bind makes injecting even easier and faster when you have the inject queens on their own hotkey. Hold shift (do you even have to hold? idk) V, space click, space click, space click, done, ez, brainless. You can do 4 or 5 bases in about a second if you practice a little, even if you're a noob like me.
Same here lol. When I was first getting into ladder play I made 3 drones and used the 3rd one to build my hatch. Sometimes I would go 3 hatch before pool just because I was like “well if I can build more zerglings right at my bases who cares if they start building them earlier”
@@Iog0ut well hatch before pool is fine but I was saying I'd literally just send a drone right at the start and not do an overlord or another drone first
@@MrSlaughterrific oh lmao, I used to do that on Terran too because I didn’t know walking with barracks on high ground was a strat, so I used to build my second cc into a low ground wall before anything else then I’d float it over to location
Selecting all the queens to do injects sounds great at the high level when your inject queens never go over like 30 energy. But I select the queen, Shift+V+Spam Click so she'll drain all her energy, then inject the next base.
When is global larva appreciation day made paid vacation day? Also does it make sense to do clash opener at plat 1 level as zerg or is it too risky without good scouting? If yes what are some ways it can be made more safe?
Winter, I LOVE this series. I attentively watch every single minute of each 3 hour episode. It’s really expanding my game knowledge and strategy after diving in and applying ViBE’s B2GM. I even started using Lurkers very effectively and I’m gonna try Vipers. Question: For the control group inject method(using F keys for camera). Is it: Queen hotkey, F1, inject key, click? And then repeat?
I think the idea of hotkeying your queens is you can 1. Queen hotkey 2. Camera hotkey 3. Inject key. Then just repeat 2 and 3 while selecting all inject queens.
I have a rather technical question regarding Ctrl+Shift+Select for removing a unit type from selection; Does SC2 absorb the Ctrl+Shift command, or does it pass it on to the rest of the OS? Because for Win10 (and likely most other Windows versions), Ctrl+Shift is the default command for switching between different keyboard layouts. This can, for obvious reasons, make the method less preferable for people with multiple layouts.
Three episodes in and I finally reinstalled the game after 6 years. Just finished my 4 losses 1 win placements, from plat to silver, I've got a long way ahead :')
so, somthing that doesnt make sense like i get the whole having it so your inject queens are on an entirely different controlgroup but i seem to be able to manage getting my queens injects done enough to where spacebar (base hotkey) click inject space bar click inject its not that much if any difference.
This mainly applies for the upper leagues, but what is the best way to defend against a 10-11 in ZvZ, and how can I distinguish it from a standard 12-pool?
Thanks for these videos, they got me playing again. I have a big issue with the instant quitters though. My win percentage is about 40%, but easily half of those are people quitting. The terrible cheesers are most of my other wins. For any real macro game that goes to max, I lose with roach/hydra/lurker/viper because I can't manage it all, and the opponents are much much better than me. Should I leave league if my actual win rate is closer to 20%?
As someone whose entire Starcraft portfolio is "knew how to max out on Roach/Ravager at a decent timing" up to Plat back when that was more viable, the more I see of viper-lurker meta the less I want to come back and play Zerg. Think I should try another race, tough it out with Zerg and trust that it will eventually feel better, or should I join Brenda and watch from afar reminiscing about the good old days?
You should learn to use your entire tech tree. Late game zerg is a thing but you need to be able to counter tier 3 units and up you kill ratio against mass units. One thing roach ravisher cn do is brk a wall whts the fllw up?
So, I'm Diamond zerg. I rally drones from egg to my extractors right when I start building them. This saves a lot of APM and has almost no lost mining time. Am I wrong?
Love the series and I'm learning a ton! There are a few things i don't understand though. How do I know when to get roaches and when to get hydras? He did that neither was very good but does sen to build them a lot. Also the early 3rd expo att 2 min or something, when to do that? When the opponent makes an early expand?
I decided to play one game. The Protoss built 4 cannons in their base and just 1 base dt cheesed me. Sniped 2 spore crawlers and killed all of my tech just as I assembled enough units to break through his single base. I don’t need that bs in my life.
honestly how cheesy and gimmicky sc2 is one of the biggest reasons people stop playing this game. Im plat 1 and when i turn off the game or take a year break its because of the cheese or the mass air , teleporting BCs and all corny stuff
@winterstarcraft have a very technical problem with zerg lately. Picked it back up bc of the LAPMC and it's been going decent thx to you ... Anyways often there's a Terran tank pushing my 2nd... So I want to send newly morphed troops from 3rd & 1st to help, but if I rally they they just walk into fire and die w/o shooting, and if I manage to A-move they still come in piecemeal... Any tips for base defense/rally control?
At least in games one and two winter didn't hotkey his makro hatches into the control groups. I know he generally tells us to not get hung up on small imperfections, but that kind of does seem like a significant oversight to me...
Demonstrating that even a solidly master league player still makes simple errors, and therefore it's no reason to get frustrated and think you're a bad player.
I'm afraid that I know the answer (and that the answer is actually just play the game a ton / practice) but do you have any tips for not freaking out with your vipers / lurkers / panicking as soon as you actually see the enemy army? I swear my macro would do you proud but my inability to use brain cells to control my units seems to be a barrier to diamond...
Yes practice, but send a few lings or Chang lings to see the army then pick somewhere to fight, set up everything else, then use your vipers. They only need to contribute one time to turn the game in your favour
Loving your content winter, question, I use your shift clicking method for putting drones on gas if i have to pull them off due to harassment, If I'm just macroing i just queue up three drone eggs onto an extractor when i start morphing the extractor. I didn't see you using that method, so is that egg rally habit bad? do i lose mining time?
Follow his basic timings for these three specific things. Drone when you aren't in danger (scout some to know) queens are continous until there is one at each hatch and 5ish on thier own control group for defense. For zerg, you take third pretty quick unless you are clearly about to be attacked, but guard between seccond and third with your 5-7 extra queens, witch you can definitely have by like 4 minutes, especially if you went hatch first and time your hatch with your pool. You can immediately pump queens 2 at a time from like 1:45ish. Creep spread towards your third as soon as you get a third queen (or with one of first two if you don't have money to spend on all larvae yet anyway) I usually spread creep towards third with my seccond queen right when my third and fourth queen are going to pop, then I just with the new queen at the seccond. I'll take my third with just 2-3 extra queens near by at edge of creep, roach Warren should be finished about now when you get ready to take third. Make a hand full of roaches to support queens IF needed when you take your third. But zerg should always be atleast one base up. And both other races should take thier third by 5 minutes on average unless they are being heavily attacked already. So zerg is a minute or so ahead stleast on taking bases
:(, it's a very significant nerf that I think also needs MORE anti protoss nerfs or maybe even a queen buff to something else to make it more defensive to completely rid of the offensive aspect. However I'm not that good at the game lmao Thank you for the archived VOD btw Winter, hope for more of your content and the series!
So i actually started playing now, got placed in Gold 3 after my second round of placement matches. I hope youre getting some good Protoss next time because i ran into a bunch that quickly (relative to me) maxed out on a ton of Archons, immortals or Mothership Carrier Collosus and i got obliterated. Seems like Hydra Lurker doesnt stand a chance against the Protoss Deathball
All this time you didn’t have inject queens on a hotkey?! I hit 5(queens), v, shift then camera locations click click click. Also if you change select target of ability hotkey to also include T. You can rapid fire injects, biles etc with holding T Also, I know you need both Hydra upgrades, but is it always speed first? Right?
It depends on your strat. Defense against drops/ econ focus = range first. Gives higher damage potential to your army and easier to defend against drops and air toss. If being aggressive with a Ling bane hydra push, speed first, or 2 hydra dens and do both at the same time. I've even been doing fast roaches and ranged hydra first against toss. Works well. Most toss go for a fast 3rd and only have 1 or 2 voids. You can do enough damage with fast roaches/ ravagers and 6-8 range hydras to cancel the 3rd and maybe even win the game if you do it right
That's the same ratio I have at the club. By the time my scheduled six queens stagger into the club, three are on D, and three are in the dressing room doing injects.
Should I worry about having queens injecting at every hatch in 5+ base games or focus on a few, also what's a good queen to hellion/marines in medivac ratio for splitting queens on defense. Thanks for the videos and bringing me back to sc2.
I'm currently gold 2 and I have usually something like 200 apm at the end of the game.. I know I click a lot more than necessary but still just leaving that out won't bring me down to 90 soooooo good luck with that xd
I just got back to playing sc2 in ranked... I lost all placement games and got ranked gold... then won my 1st ranked game and was promoted to plat...wtf? How's this work?
@@poshment5435 2600-2800 is gold 1. That’s where I ended up too and I lost a few placement games. Basically on the fringe of Plat 3 so if you won a game you would be plat 3. You can also dip out of ladder and redo placement matches and lose all of them if you want bronze
Im strugling vs terran untill i get my army he has 6-7 battle cruisers towers, mines and ghosts how the fuck to go through his defence, while he never attack and stay behind his towers defence
You know what I would love to see is a casual mode where some things are automated like queens infuse the Hive with more larva creep tumors create more tumors on a timer. I think we can bring in more casual campaign players to 1v1. If this hasn't been done already I'm going to look into the editor.
Priorities should be : -check minimap, clock, supply -Use Larva -Inject -use money (tech, queens, etc) -check minimap and clock -spread creep -check minimap and clock -micro with remaining time Repeat. Each cycle should be about 30s
@@ceerius3910 the clock is important to keep track of the inject cycle/queen production, this will also help with mini-map awareness. I'd say you don't have to go all the way down the list, but get as far as you can every 30s. Focus on accuracy over speed. (Speed comes with repetition). Every 1000 minerals you float after a production cycle make another macro hatch. (Would rather die from too little resources instead of too little larva)
I'm doing that Queen injecting thing since HotS. You know who taught me in a video? Lowko! xD Don't know why that got out of fashion. I would guess, because Queens were running around if you accidentaly tried to inject without a Queen near that base.

If your macro is any good it shouldn’t matter so much
So, I'm Diamond zerg. I rally drones from egg to my extractors right when I start building them. This saves a lot of APM and has almost no lost mining time. Am I wrong?
No it’s not wrong winter has explained both methods you should be aware of both
I like this method, too. Extractors take 21 seconds and drones take 12 seconds, though.
Love the series and I'm learning a ton! There are a few things i don't understand though.
How do I know when to get roaches and when to get hydras? He did that neither was very good but does sen to build them a lot.
Also the early 3rd expo att 2 min or something, when to do that? When the opponent makes an early expand?
good stuff :)
ho ware you figuring out how many drones you have so fast? are you just keeping count as you go? counting queens? flicking bases and adding up?
When you hover your mouse over your supply count, it tells you how many drones you have as well as army supply.
I decided to play one game. The Protoss built 4 cannons in their base and just 1 base dt cheesed me. Sniped 2 spore crawlers and killed all of my tech just as I assembled enough units to break through his single base. I don’t need that bs in my life.
Ravagers and overseers are great... if they go DTs and cannons it's just free money for you
honestly how cheesy and gimmicky sc2 is one of the biggest reasons people stop playing this game. Im plat 1 and when i turn off the game or take a year break its because of the cheese or the mass air , teleporting BCs and all corny stuff
Question, whatever happened to 3 hatch before pool builds?
Why use location camera hotkeys instead of base cameras?
@winterstarcraft have a very technical problem with zerg lately. Picked it back up bc of the LAPMC and it's been going decent thx to you ... Anyways often there's a Terran tank pushing my 2nd... So I want to send newly morphed troops from 3rd & 1st to help, but if I rally they they just walk into fire and die w/o shooting, and if I manage to A-move they still come in piecemeal... Any tips for base defense/rally control?
For injecting is there a reason you don't use shift key and space bar? (press inject, hold shift, and space bar through bases)
Try it
Why no Banes against Marine/ Marauder?
I lose to silly cheese like dts or cannon rushes. It used to frustrate me so much and rage quit
That's when you join the cheesers
So the big question is, do you always need vipers? If so, how do you use them with low APM? It really seems like they should be APM intensive.
Hotkey then ability so 3 I think since the ability is hit hotkey when click on units.
Well he did still win but he would have won faster, also he probably needs it less because he forgets less injects
Is there a way in StarCraft 2 to completely mute all chat from everyone? I’m too old to be called a noob and might play again
Loving your content winter,
question, I use your shift clicking method for putting drones on gas if i have to pull them off due to harassment,
If I'm just macroing i just queue up three drone eggs onto an extractor when i start morphing the extractor. I didn't see you using that method, so is that egg rally habit bad? do i lose mining time?
That’s a good method it’s just more ‘advanced’
Everyone should be aware of both
Thanks Winter, loving the series
Can you cast parasitic bomb on protoss interceptors?
No
2:07:07
"roaches dont shoot up"....bwah..hah......
im such a miscreant
what button is he pressing to cycle through the queens or bases he has selected
He hotkeyed base can to space bar, watch first vid in the series
you’re welcome winter 🥵😘
Winter needs to play more co-op. With a less stressed playstyle you'd have learned things like Ctrl+Shift years ago.
Or you can just learn it all here immediately
I have a hard time choosing between spending my early minerals on drones, queens or third expansion. Any tips?
However I'm not that good at the game lmao
Thank you for the archived VOD btw Winter, hope for more of your content and the series!
Yeah Queens should get more range, +2 armor, attack while burrowed, cloak and a nuking option. Ghosts exist so it’s not asking too much.
queens are still OP you just don't build enough or transfuse fast enough
Literally makes no difference unless you queen walk
So i actually started playing now, got placed in Gold 3 after my second round of placement matches. I hope youre getting some good Protoss next time because i ran into a bunch that quickly (relative to me) maxed out on a ton of Archons, immortals or Mothership Carrier Collosus and i got obliterated. Seems like Hydra Lurker doesnt stand a chance against the Protoss Deathball
Check what time exactly they max out, if it’s after 11 minutes you need to be quicker
@@luke7503 We both had maxed out armies when we clashed 🤔 Maybe i had not enough lurkers
All this time you didn’t have inject queens on a hotkey?! I hit 5(queens), v, shift then camera locations click click click. Also if you change select target of ability hotkey to also include T. You can rapid fire injects, biles etc with holding T
Also, I know you need both Hydra upgrades, but is it always speed first?
You can do enough damage with fast roaches/ ravagers and 6-8 range hydras to cancel the 3rd and maybe even win the game if you do it right
Range first means they are usable on creep, also it’s always hydras in the back so it’s okay them being slow for a bit
zerg has the most expensive static defense in the game... just use queen hold position if you want your defense to be static
if you hotkey your queens you can just inject from the minimap
So Winter is the Reason the plushies are out of stock and I had to wait 5 months to get mine!!!!!!!
That's the same ratio I have at the club. By the time my scheduled six queens stagger into the club, three are on D, and three are in the dressing room doing injects.
man so weird watching players scout in silver league and then they push into a terrible choke with no stim ten minutes later
Microbial frequencies creating an interference field. LOL!!!
Should I worry about having queens injecting at every hatch in 5+ base games or focus on a few, also what's a good queen to hellion/marines in medivac ratio for splitting queens on defense. Thanks for the videos and bringing me back to sc2.
You can que up injects and use base cam spam in end game, 2 queen per 5 hellions roughly and rest to mm, will need lings or roaches to support probs
Only cycle through injects on your main 3 bases, but occasionally use your defence queens to stack injects on other bases
I'm currently gold 2 and I have usually something like 200 apm at the end of the game.. I know I click a lot more than necessary but still just leaving that out won't bring me down to 90 soooooo good luck with that xd
Apm doesn’t matter that much
2:15:00 HOW DOES HE KNOW
I'm shocked they are still patching SC2.
I just got back to playing sc2 in ranked... I lost all placement games and got ranked gold... then won my 1st ranked game and was promoted to plat...wtf? How's this work?
Only MMR matters tbh, rank is a shiny badge at best and a heaping pile of spaghetti code at worst
Ranks are bugged and make no sense. Just pay attention to your mmr
Might be an anti Smurf feature
@@tytar1037 what is typical mmr? It put me somewhere around 2600-2800? Seems low to me, but could be wrong
@@poshment5435 2600-2800 is gold 1. That’s where I ended up too and I lost a few placement games. Basically on the fringe of Plat 3 so if you won a game you would be plat 3. You can also dip out of ladder and redo placement matches and lose all of them if you want bronze
Im strugling vs terran
untill i get my army he has 6-7 battle cruisers towers, mines and ghosts how the fuck to go through his defence, while he never attack and stay behind his towers defence
So Winter cried until Queen got nerfed? xD
You know what I would love to see is a casual mode where some things are automated like queens infuse the Hive with more larva creep tumors create more tumors on a timer.
I think we can bring in more casual campaign players to 1v1. If this hasn't been done already I'm going to look into the editor.
gonna get back into sc2 and try to get to plat! #yassqueens
12 years!

Rip Brenda.
Jesus these smurfs are so fking cringe, like damn someone lacked attention from their parents in youth and has to make up for it 🙄
Should creep spreading be more of a focus now that they can only transfuse on creep, or is it relatively minor for us low MMR plebians? #YASSQUEENS
Priorities should be :
-check minimap, clock, supply
-Use Larva
-Inject
-use money (tech, queens, etc)
-check minimap and clock
-spread creep
-check minimap and clock
-micro with remaining time
Repeat. Each cycle should be about 30s
@@PenguinIceDelta thank you 💙
@@ceerius3910 the clock is important to keep track of the inject cycle/queen production, this will also help with mini-map awareness.
