    It's too bad that Swann said this because the reality is that Bradshaw was a 2 time SB MVP for 78 and 79, a League MVP for 78, a two time Team MVP for 77 and 78 and SI Sportsman of the Year. for 79, as well as Pro Bowl for 75, 78 and 79. Bradshaw threw tons of extremely accurate passes if you watch his highlights, and in SB 10 where Swann was MVP, Terry threw a perfect 64 yd bomb to him that traveled over 60 yds in the air. And the 73 yd one to Stallworth in SB 14 is the most deadly accurate pass you'll ever see. It's just that Bradshaw knew Swann's ability so he often put it where only Swann could get it.

    True Bradshaw just threw long balls to swan and stallworth that usually result in a Touchdown. Just long jump balls. Montana and young had the West Coast offense that relied on short passes that pick part defenses

      Release Thekracken Absolutely NOT. If that’s your opinion of Bradshaw you’ve obviously cane to that determination from nothing more than hi-light films. Look at his long TD passes to Stalworth and Swann in those SB wins. Most of them right on the money, in stride, touch pass to Bleier in SB that traveled about 10 yards. I watched Bradshaw’s entire career. After he evolved as a passer, he wasn’t lobbing “jump balls” as you claim.

    • @williamhicks7736
      @williamhicks7736 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Bradshaw threw great screen passes to his wideouts. And an assortment of others... He also loved to do the playground, “just go out and get open” improvisation play - not a lot of people know that... Stallworth was asked what chuck would say when they did that and his reply was, “We never told Chuck...”

      NFL Films rated Bradshaw's throw in X to Swann the greatest throw in league history

    • @choosecarefully408
      @choosecarefully408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was the mid-80s when I first started watching the NFL. One of the first games I watched was a Steelers game with Mark Malone as QB.
      Malone was a good case of there being more teams than good QBs. Four years into the NFL he was last in TD passes, last in yards, first in interceptions & incompletions, lowest QB rating of all QBs during that time. & *_all_* his numbers were better than those of Bradshaw over *_his_* first four years.
      Swann's comment about yards after the pass is dead-on. If you look at SB X, Swann had to stop, slow down &/or turn, even on the last straight-away one where he was wide open.. It may be an exaggeration to say Bradshaw only threw jump balls, but if his receivers didn't *_consistently_* adjust, he'd sure have thrown a lot more incompletions & interceptions.
      Everyone loves to oversimplify. Despite what Swann said, Joe Montana _sucked_ once he had no receivers to throw to (in K.C.). Cripes, that SB toss to Clark was "great" only because he was the only player tall enough to *catch* it.
      Meanwhile, with Rice, Montana, then Montana's *back-up* become MVPs. Then Jeff Garcia comes in from the _CFL_ & is the highest-rated QB in his first four years in the NFL. & look at Rice's highlight reels, it's not all the ball finding him.
      He was the third successful QB I'm aware of who came to the NFL via the CFL, a place where it's thought no one worthy of the NFL would ever go. Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, & Garcia.

Jordan also isnt the all time leading scorer. That is kareem. My point is jerry being the all time leading receiver is not a lock for "greatest" Anyone with functioning eyes would tell you Randy Moss was a better receiver. Taller, faster, hands as good as jerrys. Remember what he did when he had a good quaterback? Yeah single season td record. People will forever point to Rice's statistics, but he played so damned long that they're meaninglessness to me. Of course he was great, but by the time the 49ers were no longer a Super Bowl contender, I became seriously bored watching him. I know he had great passion for the game, but after a while it seemed like he was just trying to put his numbers so far out of reach that it wouldn't matter who came in second. Instead, he made those statistics irrelevant. I can still tell you, right off the top of my head, that Jim Brown rushed for 12,312 yards and scored 126 touchdowns (exactly 100 rushing touchdowns, if I'm not mistaken). I can't do that with the guys who have passed him.

    That’s all about evolution of the passing games. The use of route depth with drop depth and timing. Swann can speak on Terry’s accuracy but Terry could speak on more consistent and sharper route running by Rice. But that came down to style and approach. The West Coast offense used the most precise route running requirements ever while the Steelers didn’t have the same attention to detail in its requirements because they really hadn’t been invented yet.

    Who made who. Did Swann and Stalworth make Bradshaw or did Bradshaw make them with all those crappy throws?

    • @TheSenegato
      @TheSenegato 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They made each other. Trust me, of all the other Steeler quarterbacks of that era, only the late Joe Gilliam could throw the ball with Bradshaw. His downfall on the field was at least partially because he was too pass happy, which led to more mistakes, but Terry Hanratty, Mike Kruczek, Cliff Stoudt, and Mark Malone could not deliver the ball to them consistently, and only they could consistently bail Bradshaw out of his occasionally errant throws. Jim Smith was a notch below them.

    Notice the articulateness and cerebral perceptiveness of Lynn Swann. This is indicative of many NFL players of his era. Today's typical, gridiron knuckle dragger can hardly assemble a coherent sentence.

      During his time you had many more student athletes -- Broadyway Joe, OJ, Swann, Stallworth, Merlin Olson, Bob Trumpy, Irv Cross, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Marcus Allen, etc.,, -- As whole today people in general are dumber so this is not surprising because of technology. I am sure all of the above could use a MAP and chart a course to a destination.

    Flip Side: What if Terry Bradshaw had a Jerry Rice or Randy Moss

    • @deaj8450
      @deaj8450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Swann was kind of the Moss of his day honestly. If you watch old games commentators talk about him like he was pretty widely considered the best at the time. I've talked to older guys who say the same thing. He was fast, could jump high, great control on sideline catches, and had amazing hands.
      People talk bad about his production but the 70s steelers had so many viable offensive options to use any given game. He was used as the circus catch, deep threat, touchdown guy and he did fantastic at it despite very often being the guy the defense chose to double cover.

      Huh? You’re not gonna find a better combo than Swann and Stallworth. Not to mention Franco Harris, Bleier, Fuqua, decent TEs. Bradshaw had tons of weapons and a good line too

      @@jefffawcett I could argue the same for Bradshaw. You may bring up some quarterback playing today but could they take the punishment that QB's like Bradshaw had to endure in those days?

      lonemapper I don’t know what you’re attempting to argue, you made it sound like Bradshaw would’ve been better if he had better wide receivers I’m pointing out that he had great wide receivers. The Steelers were my favorite team, I didn’t miss a TV game of theirs for years. Bradshaw is a deserving HOF QB, just like half of their team was. Bradshaw was a monster and as tough as they come but nobody ever claimed he was as accurate as a Montana or Brady or Brees.

    • @lonemapper
      @lonemapper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jefffawcett Did he have this kind of talent to work with? Look what the great Tom Brady could do this past year without the talent. Swan is criticizing Bradshaw for not being as accurate as a Montana but maybe Swan wasn't as great as Jerry Rice or Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss. I'm not arguing anything but considering this as a possibility for his "inaccuracy"

    Todays game is about the players brand, not the team. Fantasy football killed the game we loved. Now it’s a punks game. Posing and dancing, the game today is all about scoring. Defenses have their hands tied. My son didn’t even know what having alligator arms meant.
