I’m super picky & have gone DISTANCES to find an AMAZING H&S soup! THIS is INSANE! Only subs: I used 6C of beef broth & 2C of veg broth. & frozen spinach instead of fresh. I also sautéed very thin strips of pork chops & added them in. I’m LIVING for this recipe!!! INCREDIBLE! ❤️ THANKS!!!
Not saying what anyone else hasn't said, but DUDE your videos are LEGIT! The recipes are the perfect marriage of convenience while also making sure the ingredients, portions and special sneaky moves all add up to dishes that taste far beyond the actual effort involved. I was beginning to think my Instant Pot was overhyped and just a glorified pressure cooker meets slow cooker- but your recipes really appeal to its strengths. I just tried your recipe and it was great. I did tweak the recipe a little to suit my taste. I left out the spinach, forgot to buy scallions, couldn't find ground ginger at the market, substituted baby bella with shitake and used sea salt instead of kosher. I also doubled up on the chili garlic and tripled up on the rice vinegar. Great Recipe!

Omgosh, this is the best!! We've tried a few recipes and none came close. We did 1/4 cup of rice vinegar, 1/4 cup of chili garlic sauce. We like a good kick!! Perfecto!!! Many thanks my friend!!
Made this tonight in my one week old Instant Pot. We ended up adding more rice vinegar actually a lot more. Might be a Southern California thing but the places out here are much more sour tasting than the original recipe. Just our taste. The overall recipe and the video of the prep was VERY helpful. I would never even think to try this until I saw the video. Once we got the vinegar to our taste everybody said it was much better than any restaurant out here and that is saying a lot. Thank you!

My wife is pregnant and she wants hot n sour soup in the middle of the night, no Chinese restaurant around here, I made your recipe without bamboo n mushroom cause we don’t have it in the refrigerator anyway, turn out amazing with 5 spoon of vinegar and double the sugar and extra soya sauce . So, my local Chinese takeaway closed down during Covid. In December, I became vegetarian. Hot & Sour soup was my favourite soup until then. Today, I made this soup. Oh my God. It is the best Hot & Sour soup I have ever tasted. So so pleased. I poured some sesame oil over the top before serving. Just incredible. Thank you so much for posting. Very happy 😃
I just made my own Paleo version of this and changed quite a few things to account for my tastes and dietary needs, but the instruction on this video was very helpful! My soup was (to me) was as near as I have been to having Hot and Sour soup in over two years. I almost went to Heaven when I tried it. I used chicken and upped the time as suggested on your blog to nine minutes, but mostly the same procedures, and WOW! Please keep the great recipes coming! I want to keep my Instant Pot busy!
OMG! OMG!! OMG!!!!! This. Soup. Is. AWESOME!!! I admit I was a little skeptical of adding spinach, but it was GREAT! I used a mix of baby Bella and shiitake mushrooms, and extra tofu (the whole package) but overall stuck to Jeffrey’s recipe. It is damn good, and I am one of those people who judge a Chinese restaurant by its Hot & Sour Soup. Jeffrey, you are my hero!

I will try to make hot & sour soup in my new Instant pot👍. My husband and I ❤ hot and sour soup, we like to put crispy noodles as a garnish or crispy wontons . I knew a lady who owned an Asian restaurant and she made the best hot and sour soup. I asked her how difficult it would be to make and she told me it's pretty complicated one thing she did tell me to use is black vinegar. Have you tried this in your recipes before? I purchased mine from the Asian market. Thanks for the inspiration to create yummy recipes.
This is the best mushroom soup EVER! We LOVE it!! I’ve made it a few times and my son and his wife are obsessed with it as well. I ate it for a week and lost weight too! Lol... it so yummy and healthy:-)

I just made my first pot of hot & sour soup. It's OK but I went wrong on 1 thing. It's Thanksgiving eve and my local store was sold out on fresh spinach. I substituted frozen spinach. Bad Idea! But we live & learn. I will try this again for sure.

Woah bro, your spinach looks wonderful green in color mine looks dead and browned I added bean sprouts and nori strips while the egg process completed amazing and your can alter chili flakes or vinegar to your liking FYI I forgot sugar
Hot and Sour soup can be frozen; however, the pepper and vinegar fade and thus have to be re-enforced when re-heated. You can also add flack tree fungi and dried lilly for variety.

Can I add thin sliced cabbage to this instead of spinach or bok choy? I pretty much have all the other ingredients.. I can't hit the Asian market right now. I will make it vegan for movie night with my son tomorrow.

Jeffery this is great as are all your recipes. In one of your note sections you mentioned the "Burn" notice. Does that turn off your Instant Pot or does it still do the full cycle that you've programmed. It won't happen with this recipe but it has happened to me on some others. Also in some other recipe you mentioned that when you go to pressure you always set Hi pressure and I thought you said that you also set the temperature on the Duo Plus to More. But then on another one I thought you said that you always set the temperature to Normal. So do you always use Normal or More for the temperature setting or does it depend upon the recipe? Does the temperature affect the time you set for the recipe? I'm sorry to ask all these questions but I have watched too many videos and there seems to be a difference between the Duo and the Duo plus in that the plus allows you to set the temperature. Thanks for your help. You really the best person that I have seen on the web when instructing us step by step. I have recommended your site to many others that are starting out with their instant pots. It means a lot to a lot of people.
Cut your vinegar at least in half, and add your regular amount of Chinese BLACK vinegar in the end with the tofu. You will bless me. Not going with the spinach, heathen that I am, I'm adding sliced traif and skipping the egg. Otherwise, thanx! This weekend.

I enjoyed every recipe I have made from Pressure Luck, however, this soup unfortunately is not one of them. I love spinach, however, I found it overpowering in the soup and I didn't even use the full amount in the recipe. I would recommend using fresh bean sprouts and putting in them just prior to serving. I have never bought canned bean sprouts and will never buy them again. Other than that I love your cook book and have bought two more as gifts for family members and friends.
It's actually called ear wood fungus, but it's not always available fresh. Especially here on the east coast. I'm not a big fan of soaking dried out mushrooms that were ordered online. Unless you know of axsuper great online store??? Please let us know.... For most people any mushroom would work. I love experimenting with food.

It’s actually Chinese black vinegar in hot & sour soup. If you can find it, use it and dry shiitakes.
