Great message, once again! My best travel experience was a month in Mexico and Guatemala with no camera. I made this as a conscious choice. I’ve got the best mental images locked in my head 25 years later, still. Vivid memories last longer than any photos. Thanks for the reminder 😊
You nailed it with the over-commercial nature of NYE and the real fact that people have lost their passion for the moment. I come from Scotland where it used to be a 3-day experience of meeting, hugging and kissing folk you would never meet again in celebration of rebirth. I fear that the real meaning may never return unless everyone makes a huge effort to recapture the spirit. Keep trying Poppy!
Yeah it was honestly pretty sad, I hope we can bring this back! The fireworks were incredible but it just didn't feel like New Years without everybody saying Happy New Year to each other

Thank you for the video! It was good to hear about what your cautions were because Sydney is incredibly busy on NYE. We were in Sydney this past week and saw the fireworks from Pirrama Park and it was free! We were behind the Harbour bridge so maybe we missed a few things but we saw all the big ones. We traveled around for six hours on the 31st and every place we went was full or too expensive. So thankful to have stuck it out to find a decent spot!
Poppy, you are my most favorite travel vlogger for videos like this. As if I am there...... experiencing it myself. Just wonderful. Love your perspective.
Have to agree that NYE in Sydney is a once in a lifetime event! We went a year ago and will have the memories (and videos!) forever. It was amazing and the best fireworks show we have ever seen! Highly recommend this to other travellers.
@@WheresPoppy I remember when it was free basically everywhere, where you could turn up at 7pm and still get a decent spot where you could sit down and have a picnic dinner with a few beers/wine or champagne and welcome in the new year watching the fireworks with friends and family without being trampled. 1st year I was in Sydney I sat at the opera house with a perfect view of the bridge from 10am. Then the next year I sat close to the bridge on the Luna Park side, I got there at about 7pm and got a good view. Getting away after the fireworks is a nightmare as there is so many people and some of the train stations are closed so you have to walk to the next station. I agree with you about the taking photos etc... whilst travelling it’s best to enjoy the experience for yourself.

I find the fireworks a little over rated but then I've lived here my whole life. I've never seen the midnight fireworks except for on tv, only the 9pm ones. I just find it too rowdy and there's way too many drunks. But I'm glad you enjoyed yourself! :)
What bad! But especially that they do not even wish each other a happy new year. and what an absurd prices for a place for a nice view. a big media circus. And to take money from the people again. love what you do Poppy! I would like to see it but maybe on a boat with friends and family.
One thing I like about the fireworks in Sydney, is that there are actually many great places to watch from, and you don't always need to pay. I could have recommended one or two great, free vantage points where it's less crowded, more chilled and family-oriented :-) Perhaps these spots are less known to non Sydney-siders.
Agreed, non Sydney Siders wants close up and don’t know how not to spend money, which is normal. I hated how she judged the locals for not wishing everyone for New Years. My mom was FaceTiming my aunt in hospital once when I was a kid. My grandma recorded the video because she uploads everything on Facebook and her family overseas. Stupid girl just ruining the image of our city
This is kind of sad- we lived and watched the fireworks in 2000 in sydney and you could just go and camp out near the harbour/opera house for free on the day, yes waiting about 6 hours but it was all free and people could make a day of it. People weren't fighting either...
Ive lived in Sydney since 1966. Never seen the stupid fireworks. We watch it on TV with daiquiris inside. Shame its all so commercialised these days. There are much more interesting places to see in the Sydney area. Glad you enjoyed it, but we hear ya and agree. Next time join an indigenous tour of the area and learn about their unique history and culture. Try La Perouse first.
I usually spend my New Year's Eve hiding under my kitchen table, curled up in the fetal position, trembling with fear, eyes darting all over the place like a chihuahua on crack.... Doesn't cost me a thing 😉

3. Three months
4. Yes
5. I'll get to this in another video
6. mmm maybe 20 minutes by train?
@@WheresPoppy Sorry to ask, but let me be specific about my first question. Do we the American citizens need to get Australia's visa here in America or it is provided upon our arrival at any Australian airport by the immigration officers?
@@WheresPoppy Oh! Thanks for your reply.
Thanks Mark! Yeah I think I would do the same thing if I ever went again
This video seemed more clear or vibrant are you using a new camera? I really enjoyed it keep up the good work.
Yes I am :)...thanks Kenneth!
Finally some new video😀
Sorry I haven't been too consistent lately, just having too much from in Straya
I wanna stay inside my big house all day like its my big personal tomb ladeedaa. 💀🔫👻
Hey care to drop where this vantage point where its less crowded?
What you think:ahh so warm and relaxing. Vs what we know:drought can't go outside and red sun and skie
This is kind of sad- we lived and watched the fireworks in 2000 in sydney and you could just go and camp out near the harbour/opera house for free on the day, yes waiting about 6 hours but it was all free and people could make a day of it. People weren't fighting either...
Should have gone to Hong Kong to watch their fireworks. Much nicer and is free.
how about the crowds though?
Poppy, may I invite you to visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia?
Awesome Video YOu Look Really PRetty
Rain and crowd, meh. I wonder if you could get on kayak there. Fireworks look all the same. Here in NYC they do it on the east river.
They definitely would charge you haha
great video
Thanks Danny!
Where's Poppy keep it up :) You can do it! 100k Subs soon...:)
Oh yeah yeah
Well said. If you focus on getting on film then you don't really experience it.
Exactly!
Ist not true there are also more vantage point s for low budget
