Being a Black Foreigner in China comes with lot of experiences; Thus the good , the bad and the ugly . In China , Once a Chinese meets a black person , the first question he or she will ask you is “Are you from America “?
If you respond in affirmative, you could earn a new friendship with him . However, If you answer by saying you are from Africa , you might not be lucky to be asked a next question! Africans are looked down but Black people of American Origin are accepted!
Chinese people have weird and fascinating views about Black People in general , especially those who are directly originated from Africa .
To some Chinese , Black People are poor especially those who live or come from Africa ! To other Chinese , Black People (Africans) have nothing good to offer to the world at Large .
They believe that Black people (Africans) can’t be citizens of America but Africa only .According to the ordinary Chinese if you are black , You are from Africa and not qualified enough to be a citizen of developed country such as America .
In this video , as I try to project The Black Society and Africa as A Black person living in China , I interviewed Chinese people to guess my nationality ,whether I’m from Africa or America and the reasons behind their thought .
Do Chinese believe that Some Black people also come from America ?

Before I started watching black travel videos I never knew so many people were so ignorant about the African Diaspora and it’s especially disheartening because human evolution started on the continent of Africa.

we only know Asia , North America + Europe.
What makes Chinese think this way. Let me share my point.
Human beings do not form their perception on something out of nothing, we are all clear on this part. There must be something that made think that way, some variables that they collected, maybe not all the variables but the LOUDEST variables.
Who is the main influence of the world, the United States. What does the U.S show about Africa? what they say about Africa? how they portray Africa in Hollywood movies? These variables did not start today but decades ago. Chinese people do not have access to Google but words of mouth, gossips about negativity spread like wildfire in seconds. Images and videos from Chinese websites are gathered from the main source, who is the main source? America. Where do they get this knowledge of Africa? If I have to put my money on, I would say Media, News network, Hollywood, Social Media, radio(in the past) and newspaper(in the past).
Nothing personal against Africa or Africans, people just need to be more educated and instead of spreading negativity of any country, learn that every country has their culture, tradition and food. Thats how I see it.
Dont just blame media...african should hard work to change stereotypes itself , look riot in south africa thats doesn't help at all.

The current state of China is worse than Africa. Due to harsh lockdowns etc. China is still backward. Some Chinese buildings are tofu. Some constructions in China are shoddy work. People use sewage toilet water for oil. How is it better than Africa? You can make money everywhere regardless of tofu constructions. etc. What the hell do you mean by Africans must work hard? Do you know how hard working many Africans are? Many buildings are empty in China. Most of chinese people are so close-minded for real, I wonder how they would feel if I said they were indian because their skin is dark or something. They really need to read, not every black people come from Africa, even if some black people's ancestors were africans and their skin is black, it doesn't mean they have a link to africa now.

Well to the woman that said that Africans have a skin that's more red, maybe the sterotype on certain parts of China is the one that comes from "Masai" tribe, and indeed the tone their skin is not really black like other etnics in Africa, but is more red in tone. Maybe she has this sterotype because blacks are rare in China.One thing is for sure, Chinese people are sincere when asked and no hipocrytes.
