I really don’t understand why it seems to be forbidden for Muslims to partake at all. I think it is nice if others don’t want to “shun” their Muslim friends and wish to have them around for their holidays.
Since Tawheed is the core belief of Islam.i.e associating no partners to God and testifying to the Oneness of God the Almighty. Partaking in the festivities would be testifying to what God has forbidden us to do. Apart from that we revere Jesus Christ but we don't worship him neither do we say he is the son of God the Almighty.

In your own bible Jesus is claimed to have said to God “ why has thou forsaken me?” when he was (as you believe) being crucified.So clearly he is not God.
