This Grade 1 Listed Building (in the same category as Hampton Court Palace and Salisbury Cathedral) lies in the valley of the River Aire, at the foot of the Pennine Moors and at the entrance to the Yorkshire Dales. Paid for out of his own pocket by Sir Titus Salt, it is a focal point of the “model” village, Saltaire, that he built for the workers at his huge mill to ensure their spiritual needs were catered for.
➡️ The survey is now closed. Thank you for all the submissions.

The bells were rung for the last time to celebrate the signing of the Armistice in 1918, and by 1922 were in a bad way when inspected by Taylors. They recommended a new frame and fittings, but no action was taken.. By the 1930s YACR Reports were listing practice ringing by arrangement with Alfred Riley, which suggests wishful thinking about their condition. By 1936 they had been officially declared unringable. The YACR Report for 1937/38 shows Riley as deceased, and this is the last mention of Saltaire in the annals of the Association. It is likely that interest in the bells died along with their last ringer, and they were removed during the Second World War and sold for scrap for £85. They were reinstated in September 2003, and as is the tradition each bell is named. One is named Titus, another is Jonathan. The bells were cast in Eindhoven, Holland, by Royal Eijsbout Foundry.

Another great video. One of the best Local History channels on TH-cam!
Appreciate it . Thank you .
That was magnificent. I never knew just what we had at Saltaire.
The Salt Mausoleum in Bradford's answer to the New Sacristy at Florence. OK, Lockwood and Mawson may not have been Michelangelo, but they gave it their best shot. I hope they held their heads up high.
First time i went in the church i was moved to tears never felt like that in a church before. Your video dosent do it justice it is beautiful. I love that area my partner was born there. The area can be very busy but somehow its very peaceful.Roberts park is beautiful too.❤
Thank you
I am born in St lukes hospital Bradford, always visited Saltaire Mills Lister Park, Roberts park etc with my parents as child and still do.
Such beautiful majestic architecture - modern day buildings can't compete !
It really is!
When I worked In Saltaire about 9 years ago, the lead was stolen off the roof of the mausoleum, for 2 years just a trap covered the roof of the mausoleum until it was repaired I found that a bit disrespectful to the memory of the Salt family. Yet another lovely thought-provoking video Thank You
Dear me! Nothing is safe these days.
Thanks for watching.
Another very interesting video. No way would I go up those ladders but the bells up there are fantastic. Those beautiful windows. I looked at my town today and the building work above the main street shops. So beautiful, yet the main street is a rubbish façade. 👍🙏🏼
Absolutely 💯
When you look up , there are amazing features. Thanks 👍🏾
@@BradfordThroughTheLens So pleased that a video of yours about Bradford Jesus came up one day on my TH-cam. For me it brings back many happy memories. I liked to go in the tram to Shipley. My sister was young and would call Saltaire, Solitaire. 🙏🏼👍
I absolutely love Saltaire and this church. What a treat to see the bell tower and up inside the organ, when I last visited the organist told me that the organ it's self was actually too big for the size of the church ,which is why it seems so very loud ! If I was Titus I would have been very irritated by the light that hangs in front of the balcony , it really does limit the view but at the same time it IS fabulous. I loved every minute of this video - so interesting - thank you both for taking the time to make it .
We are really glad you enjoyed it.
You are right about the organ, it's really overpowering, especially when you are filming. 😀
Thanks for your comment 👍🏾
Fascinating video, well done👍
👍🏾
Try and get access to the Board Room in the main building. I have been in there and, if it is still the same, it is as used by Sir T. Magnificent!
Thank you for the video, i was there recently but sadly we were there on a monday so could only walk around the outside , it seems it is not open everyday so people wanting to see this beautiful church should maybe find out before hand so not to be disappointed.
Thank you
That was such an excellent look behind-the-scenes and I am ever so grateful to have seen it. Love the Game of Thrones organ music - make it all so atmospheric. LOL Well done. I have been to Saltaire twice but missed this close up of the church. Many thanks. I associate Saltaire with Leeds more than with Bradford, as I simply took the train from Leeds, but perhaps it is more closely related to Bradford. Cheers
No problem.
It was a pleasure filming it , and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for popping by 😀
I live in Saltaire. Been in the church and below a few times
Great video lads. Love all the 'behind the scenes' reveals 😊. All the best

Amazing as always, thank you for another piece of history, until the next video stay safe ❤
Also just filled out the survey 👍❤
Thanks again!
so glad salts mill survived from the mager decline and demolition men
It's a local treasure
Really interesting : My Mother was told that Caroline insisted on the balcony being installed for the "family" so Titus had it built so narrow that she would not be comfortable sitting in it with her dresses
I have also read that the Salts never used the balcony. Weird. Thanks.
Hi. Would you do a video of St Peters House (old post office) thank you
Always open to suggestions.
Thank you 👍🏾
Great time for a featured video as they are soon closing for refurbishment 😏
them wooden stairs would definitely not hold my weight. 😂😂

Titus salt, looked like a Greek god,a benevolent man,who believed in Christian principles, made, his wealth from a "llama." Not the dalai, but the alpaca.!
