I got the chance to see a Mucha exhibit several years ago and seeing the prints up close at full size was amazing and gave me even more appreciation for them. The show also had many of his oil paintings which were just as impressive!
I'm sort of a perfectionist when it comes to my art. I aim for straight, uniform lines and strict within-the-lines coloring. So naturally, watching this video made me anxious. But seeing your process, and how a haphazard smattering of color in absolute disarray can create the most beautiful art has inspired me completely. Like, woah. It reflects so much warmth! I totally understand your feelings about not studying Mucha because if paintings are so intricate, but look at this beautiful piece! It's very reminiscent of his style but still so you :) I love Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt, they're my favorite painters, and while I currently feel discouraged in the same way about my work compared to theirs, I still love just looking at their work, and finding little things I know I can do and work on to come closer to making my work as detailed and beautiful. Well done, this is so lovely
I love Mucha and recently did a study of his 'dance' piece. What I discovered was so interesting. His colours are pretty much flat. When he hints at shadow its just one darker shade brush stroke or pastel mark. The detail is all in the drawing. The texture of his fabrics is all line. But its a trick of the eye because when you look at the work it doesn't look that 2 dimensional. That was a revelation to me. The only place that has any semblance of usual structural painting is the skin. This seems to be why he outlined his figures so heavily, because the inner drawing is so heavy with line to create the image shape.
The second thing I realised was that he was inspired by stained glass windows. Look at some of the calendars he did with the gothic arches as image borders and separators. The circles are like Rose Windows. This also ties into his strong lines, like the lead work in stained glass. That gives his women a religious quality.
Mucha was at the forefront of Art Nouveau/Belle Epoque not Art Deco which came later with Erte etc

Just a caution when using stamps and stencils you need to check with the company because most will not allow you to use in your artwork that you plan to sell or produce prints for. I can't tell you how many mix media artists run into this issue. So be cautious of certain patterns that are exclusive or specific and be sure to check with the designer/company on their policy for using their products for your art. Beautiful Mucha inspired piece. Erin S. so true about the stamps. It applies to stencils and even to old book text paper. To further add to your comment, you are allowed to sell original artwork on which you've used other designer's images (whether through stamping or stencilling, etc) but no mechanical reproductions are allowed to be sold. That is copyrights infringement . I have learned the hard way and I would hate for that to happen to you, Lioba. I admire your work greatly. Thank you for putting together these videos so we can get a glimpse of your talent in action.
creationsceecee I've been a sub of yours for...I can't remember how long. I remember when you ran into this issue :( and I think it's ridiculous to produce an art tool that you can't use for your art.

I would suggest making your own stencils to avoid the issue all together. You can use heavy card stock and an exacto knife and then "laminate" them with clear packing tape.

Heya from Düsseldorf! :D You are so talented, I cannot believe I've found your channel only now! Mucha is also my no. 1 favorite artist. I used to live in Czech Republic for few years and I got the chance to see part of his amazing Slav Epic collection in Moravský Krumlov, in an almost abandoned palace which I discovered by chance in one of my weekend walks. I tell you, that was the most rewording walk ever in my life so far! Enjoy the very rare german hot weather! :)
Dreamy! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, on pushing threw your boundaries. It is so important to explore, new concepts, and styles. I agree with you completely. Everyone needs to push threw their fears. I think it's the thought of rejection, that keeps us stuck in one style. I'm very impressed with your ideas. They are relatable on many different subsections. For instance.
My client, whom I had for a while she was very determined to reach her goals of being a certain weight. She worked out diligently every day for two hours. But it wasn't until, she broke her foot that she had to change her entire approach, and routine! It was because of that change, she finally met her goal! I was so happy for her! Because she was very focussed, and determined, that no matter what, she was going to make it happen!
Sometimes changes feels very awkward, and different but it's that change, that fosters new ideas, and approaches. Yeah!
Being an artist my self, I find taking classes of all sorts of different interest. Really help to bring inspiration to your life all around. Like one year I took knitting, with a bunch of older women, and I just loved it! Then I took a digital audio engineering program for three months! I loved it! Then a cross country skiing class with a friend of mind. A silver smithing class, to make jewelry. . Then a body building class, to learn how to properly train our bodies. Ball room style dancing. Twice. The second time was very fun, except I would never get picked. Soon I realized they where all couples, that had missed the deadline for signing up. So me and a couple others, were always singles. I danced with this elderly man severely times. We both had the same insurance. He was almost 80 and I was in my 30's. It was a huge gymnasium, we both could go around twice, and we said, that's great. It was so much fun. I still think the couples should have broken apart apart. Also still life drawing.
I found by taking a bunch of different classes, it brought so much inspiration to my life. Oh I forgot, hip hop dancing, that was awesome! Something about moving, really gets your creative self moving too!

This is very beautiful. I love your watercolours. If you like an artists work or an idea you should definitely explore this in your work if you wish and not feel restricted. That is the exciting part about being an artist I think.

There are Alfonso mucha coloring books that make great transfer templates

Keep in mind that most stamps use an angel license, which means you can sell originals but not prints or print on demand online with these stamps in the picture. You will have to contact the stamp artist to get a different license or make your own stamps.
you can find stamps, stencils and all that kind of stuff you mention in a scrapbook store, or online, the brands that are in that style are graphic 45, blue fern studios and prima marketing (well they are my favs) they are very much comercial use in finished products so theres not much of a problem on terms of use, also is easier to find on online stores

His style is Art Nouveau... I know because Art Deco is my favorite art period lol. I have to make it to Miami some day to see the Deco buildings there. You're right he is amazing though!

You can actually make your own stamps by carving designs out of silicon or linoleum! It's a really common practice so there are lots of resources to learn how and get materials. Just search up linocut prints or rubber stamp making and it should open you up to the rest. Then you won't have to worry about copyright and you'll have full artistic freedom with the design. Hope this helped!! I love your art by the way

I'm fan of Mucha's works, hubby gave me an artbook with a collection of his works and sketches and I use it with other books to learn, as you say, how he worked with details and backgrounds. I hear you saying Art Deco, I believe Mucha is considered Art Nouveau =) Tho, I'm sure a piece by you with Art Deco inspiration will look absolutely gorgeous too! Tho I love his famous style, his oil paintings, sketches and studies are beautiful as well. Big big hugs!

Mucha was Art Nouveau but his use of shape does seem to be a pre-cursor to deco which was the movement about a decade or two later.

I noticed that your pronouncing of hydrangeas is a bit off. I just assumed it was your lovely accent. But here you go: we (America) pronounce it "high drain jah" No accent on any of the syllables but a hard "j" on jah. Like you say "just", but without the "st" sound. Hope that helps. Ok, so I really hope that this doesn't sound wrong to you, but in all your speedpaints there is a point in the beginning to middle part when I'm like: ha this looks crappy, great, I can do so as well (I'm a designer and illustrator but very bad at painting) - but then shortly after I'm always like: Maaan this looks amazing how did she go from this to that in 30 seconds without me noticing she even did anything????

Beautiful painting! The face is astoundingly realistic :) I remembered that you wanted your pronunciation to be corrected if it was wrong; you said "guitar" as "geetar", and it's more of a "gih" sound at the start. Hope I could help!

This is probably so obscure, but you use a reference from an artist back in the day named marjolein gulinski, she mainly did fairy art but she just seemed to stop...

Téra Chocholatá ... it is very complicated to explain cause phonetics are not the same in each language ... since I am German, i think it is Mucha with a "ch" like in "Buch" (book) or "Bach" (like the componist).
Edit: You could also say the "ch" is pronounced like the spanish "J" like in "Juan". Or "X" in "Xavier" if I am not mistaken.
