  • In this video we are taking you along to World's third and India's first Elephant village. Gathi Gaon is a village in Jaipur that is known for its rich cultural heritage. The village is located at the foothills of the Aravalli range and is a popular tourist destination for those looking to explore the traditional ways of life in Rajasthan.
One of the most popular activities in Jaipur is taking an elephant ride. These majestic creatures have a special place in the hearts of the people of Rajasthan and riding an elephant is a great way to experience the culture and heritage of the state.
This elephant village is close to the Jaipur Delhi Highway. From Amer Fort, the elephant village is at a distance of 3.7 KMs. So all the elephants that you see at Amer fort and nearby areas are coming from Hathi Gaon.
This is relatively straightforward. They have a board where the ticket price to Hathi Gaon is mentioned. A domestic tourist needs to pay INR 106, including a base price of INR 55. The price for a foreign tourist is INR 360.
The elephant village holds100 elephants and their mahouts. The village has housing for mahouts and holding places for elephants. There is a small pond in the middle of the village where elephants are given baths. All the elephants in the village are females. We got to know this from one of the mahouts. This is done to keep a check on the breeding and the number of elephants. The male elephants, if born, are shifted to the Jaipur zoo and other elephant sanctuaries nearby.
Well-built pathways made out of stones and bricks are made especially for elephants. This place was designed in 2006 and constructed in 2010. Hathi gaon ( Elephant village ) is a small village that was set up by the government in 2010 to give proper shelter and water facilities to all the families and their elephants that served tourists in and around Amer Fort during the day. Along with all the homes and shelters for the elephants, there are big man-made ponds in the village designed specifically for elephants to relax and bathe in it after a long hard day’s work. People can visit the place and enjoy the sight of many elephants playing and bathing in open which is a rare sight in this part of India. It’s a photographers paradise indeed. It is world’s third, and India’s first elephant village. Rajasthan Forest Department has announced entry fee for tourists visiting Elephant Village in Jaipur. The fee will be charged for maintenance and development of the village. You can take an elephant’s safari inside the village. The village holds housing for the mahouts (Caretakers) for the elephants and has a small school for the kids. In a nutshell, this is like a small township for mahouts, their families, and their elephants. This housing project was very carefully created by making a destroyed landscape, and the sand was used to create small water bodies for the elephants. This place is a must-visit for your kids.
The administration of Elephant Village was handed over to forest department from the Rajasthan tourism department. A perfect get away from Jaipur, Hathi Gaon is a splendid abode of Elephants for the families with children who can spend a good time in the cool breeze and greenery all around with elephants entertaining themselves and their visitors.
If you want, you can also decorate the elephants with the help of mahouts and enjoy with the local kids. The knowledge about elephant’s behavior and their caring can be learned here. Watch :
