    I'm posting this message on all of the reactions I view today. Thank you for this reaction. As a Dimash "dear", I have praised him to the heavens and back, as have you and so many others. Today though, I would like to say that I pray for his safety and for the safety of his people and his beloved homeland, Kazakhstan. May their troubles soon be over and may peace and freedom come to them. I'm sure that the violence currently overtaking his country is a deep wound to Demash's heart.

    D- for DOMBRA ( also another traditional instrument Dimash uses) the one you talk about is the Kobiz the most ancient Kazak instrument. Native say it's spiritual and its music is used to heal, and clear a place from bad spirits and energy! Interesting, huh?!?!

    • @sadyworthleyDQ

      In another note about the Kobiz, the inside is covet with camel skin, and the strings are made of horse hair. Definitely spiritual!❤🙏

    Guess you know that Dimash' country used to be ruled by Russia. That area was known as the Russian Steppes. The people who lived there were a horse race. That is Dimash' heritage that he loves to keep alive in his music. The instrument is not a Dombra, that you are thinking of, it's a kobyz.

    The folk song "Samaltau" is riddled with grief. It conveys the atmosphere of the difficult events of 1916, when by royal decree the Kazakh male population from 19 to 43 years old was sent to the construction of defensive structures and to the rear work of the First World War.

  • @addisonmcdorman7929
    @addisonmcdorman7929 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    You are thinking that this is a Dombra but it is not. This is the Kobyz. The Kobyz (co-biz) or kylkobyz (keel-co-biz) is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument, spread among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. The Kyrgyz variant is called the kyl-kyyak. The qobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather.
    The dombra (dome-bra), also known as dombyra (dome-bera) is a long-necked Kazakh and Bashkir lute and a musical string instrument. The dombyra shares certain characteristics with the komuz and dutar, such as its long, thin neck and oblong body shape.

    The dombra is a different instrument, this one is called the Kobyz. See Rivers of Love for Dimash playing this as an instrumental only with his voice only used as some background vocals. It’s a gorgeous tune composed by his good friend, (Sorry the name escapes me). And see Quiran Elim for use of the kobyz, the visuals of this music video are stunning. This was partially directed by Dimash along with his magnificent vocals.

    Hii FaulPlay, thank you for another great reaction! The instrument you are asking about is called a Kobyz, it is the national Qasakstan instrument. The one that starts with a "D" is the Dombra, it is a type of guitar that looks like a banjo, it also has 2 strings. Love from Canada 💞💞

    The qobyz (kobyz) offers a truly atmospheric feeling. Thematically, this song reflects part of the history of Kazakhstan in the earlier part of the 1900s during WW1. The whole staging, Dimash’s vocals and the instrumentation creates the visual of the Samal mountains in Kazakhstan. It’s touching how you respect Dimash’s culture. The dombra is also a cool instrument, but this was a kobyz. I agree, Dimash is an air bender! :). (I wasn’t quite sure whether I meshed with your personality in previous videos, but I’ve kept coming back so I’ve finally hit the subscribe! I can deal with quirky and respectful!)

  • @lindahake1666
    @lindahake1666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Maybe just for your enjoyment find Di's performance from the Spring Festival in China. The staging is fantastic!
    The kobyz at the beginning is giving us the sounds of The Great Steppes...the howling of the wolf, then the village dog barking a reply, the songs of the night birds, the rush of the evening breeze, the water sounds of the river etc. So good!

  • @tirallala1
    @tirallala1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
    The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments.
    (Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.)
    A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music.
    The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz.

    “Starts with a D…” You’re thinking of the dombra, but this is a kobyz. And the man playing it is the best; also Kazakh. To hear Dimash play the dombra, “River of Love” is a beautiful duet with the composer playing the keyboard (no vocals). Or to see Dimash and scores of others playing the dombra, react to “Daididau.” That’s a sad song about a Kazakh poet who was I imprisoned (for treason??). He was told his beloved wife had abandoned him while captive, but it was not true. You hear lots of anguish in Dimash’s voice.

  • @akita21154
    @akita21154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lol, airbender? You're are truly funny & a great reactor. The only reason I know about the Kobyz is bc I became obsessed with it the 1st time I heard it so I researched all I could find r/t it. This is what I've learned over the past 5 years. The Kobyz originally had 2 strings but was changed to 4 to accommodate folk music & to include classical repertoire. The fingers are between the strings manipulating them to obtain the particular sound they want. That's the hard part & using the bow to complete the sound. Most people often think it's similar to the violin but it's closer to the cello family, but really is in a class of its own. They can produce the sound of water,as in the song Samaltau during the livestream Dimash done for the Tokyo's Jazz festival in 2020. I think that's the right yr.
    Ms. Aziza a Khanstan lady who @ that time the only fm who had mastered it, she is a
    teacher @ the
    Kazakh University of Arts. Can't spell her full name, sorry. But she's tutoring the next generation. It was decided b4 she was born that she would learn it, so she did. She's fabulous on it. Absolutely love it.
    Sorry about the history but I said that I was obsessed with this instrument. ☺ keeping it real !
