At first, thank you for telling us about the mechanism. On our left seat, we had the same problem. A little trick at first before you start disassembling the chair, you can make the back of the seat upright, and then give it some bang/vibration on the back of the chair to allow the safety mechanism moving to the correct position and see if it can start to work.
Just saved the day for me. My issue was the metal that holds the metal ball at the end of the cable bent open. I placed the cable/ball back into place and bent the metal channel back into place.
So helpful! My left one was stuck. Did it your way for a while temporarily and then went back in there and realized the black cable had separated from the metal crimped end and that was the problem. Cleaned it off with some alcohol. Bought a hydrologic crimp tool. Jammed the cable back into the end piece and recrimped. Use the original size crimp and then went one smaller. Not all the way on the smaller one. Hooked it back up and back in business. Hope it lasts.
Very informative. I had a water leak in the rear storage area (2019) filled with water with the seats folded down. The backrest was soaked. Is there a white lubricant in any of the mechanisms? Would water effect the latches etc?
jic someone else has the issue of the seat back not locking in the up position and thereby preventing the seat from fully stowing in the floor, I used this video to show how to get to the mechanism. I found my cabling routing was not the same from the left seat to the right. The cable on the seat that was not functioning was routed under another cable and I believe eventually wore the sheathing enough making it rough. The cable got stuck at the rub point and wouldnt release. It's the cable with the blue plastic piece. I removed the cable from the bracket and rerouted it under the interfering cable just like the right seat. Now it's much smoother. Looks like they ran the cables wrong during manufacturing.
So i have a 2014 Odyssey and the wider 3rd row seat won't release to fold down into the stow away position. No matter how hard I pull on that strap and try to fold the seatback down, it won't move. Do I need to do the same thing that you demonstrated?
