I love how your dog is just lounging on the couch like: "Dad's doing his thing with glass boxes of water again. I'll just lie here because I just want to be near him".
Hahaha so true! Both of them were sat on the sofa but my older girl is definitely less bothered about being involved.
I never know what's more fun: watching your tanks or listening to your talk 🙃.
THE PINK FLAMINGO RETURNS! I love the whole experience of setting up your tank but I think it's important to show your time at the fish shop and you looking and chatting. I think showing set up to shopping is a great experience. Another great setup really like this one. Your pups are super sweet they just want to be around you :)
Thank you! I agree but when I get chatting at the shop the video will be two hours long hahaha
FSM continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible with an aquarium. Great job FSM 😜👍💜
Love the long video format matt!!
Thank you! Some of these big builds take too long to make onto anything shorter.
Matt, this is of my favorite builds from you. No need for more plants.
Your videos are formatted so nicely Matt!!! They are perfect for background watching and sit down watching alike and are just so inspiring to see. :)
No plants on the bottom. Look great the way you have it. You are a visionary.
Looks amazing. I especially enjoy that there are no plants in the water other than the floaters. It looks like something from nature.
Agreed as soon as I lived with it for a bit with no plants I knew I had to go with it.
Turned out great. Love the contrast between the above- and below-water views!
Leaves are a great way of making tanks look less 'artificial'. Shrimp love them too. And the blackwater has always fascinated me.
Always love longer format videos Matt! Well done on the scape, it looks incredible!
Thank you for the videos. They help me calm my mind. I don't keep fish but did in thep past. Ypu and MD, who introduced you to me through his channel are so creative and calm. I can't explain exactly why it helps when I'm overwhelmed but it does.❤
I totally get this 100%!! I almost died from a car crash back in Feb of 23 & not but shortly after I found MD’s channel & then Matt’s which both got me back into keeping fish once I was mobile again. I could & do watch their videos for hours & hours lol. But seems like there’s only two things that can calm me down now, watching/working on my tanks or watching their videos.
I too got back into fishkeeping after braking my hip and finding MDs channel. Then when Matt set his own up I got ano5her tank 😂
Looks amazing Matt. It looks like the real environment. Exactly the type of thing I am interested in. A big thumbs up!
You smashed it again! I'm excited to see what other fish you put in next.
Amazing tank. Thank you for your hard (and sometimes late into the evening) work!
Gonna look great once grown in 👏👏
Hahahahaha, the CUP! I really really love this tank Matt, it's definitely a different type of build that stands out. Beautiful!!!! Plus, I really like the choice of fish. Time well spent drinking an ice coffee on my porch watching your video!
Glad you like it! The flamingo cup seems to be a fan favourite so it needed its own screen time! Hahaha
@@FishShopMatt hahahahaaaaa, yes, it's a channel icon now, like you and the dogs. A must have, lol.
No leave as is Matt looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video Matt, simple and elegant scape. Deffinatly given me a couple of ideas
Stunning. The simplicity of the scape is very eye catching. It has inspired my next build for my King Betta and ember tetras.
oooo, cork bark would be awesome for a Halloween scape, bones and skulls. Lovely aquarium, thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful week.
5:55: Memories of Austin Powers coming through, right there ... in the sense of ... 'I too, like to live dangerously ...' 🤣
Great concept! Really like that look. And the croaking gouramis are cool too. Thanks to your channel, I'm getting back into fishkeeping for the first time in several years - next stop Betta rack!
Thank you! That's amazing to hear, good luck with your venture back into fishkeeping.
Great looking tank Matt - as always! Love that it’s really different 🐟
Looks amazing Matt! Im gonna steal some of this for my upcoming 120cm tank 😊
Love this tank so much Matt! Inspiring
@@FishShopMatt Sending love from New Zealand! It's definitely more challenging here due to limits on plants BUT love finding ways to adapt designs from you
Oh wow my favourite build so far, awesome. Love the gourami choice. I don't think it needs submerged plants, it looks perfect as it is ❤
Your best tank so far
I just love the harlequins they look like little swimming pork chops lol
Love watching you work!! Great aquascape.
Super cool man, I’ve got a 75 gallon version of that and I love it. It’s been going for 2 years now! Can’t wait to see yours long term. Love you you brother man. Keep the good content coming. :)
Gob-smacked when you said Kuhli loaches because I had just thought the same thing.
Turned out beautiful Matt xxx❤❤❤
I really like what you have done with that tank. With all the terrestrial plants and with their leaves hanging just above and over the water the first fish I thought of was Splash/Splashing Tetra Copella arnoldi where, if they start breeding, would be fascinating to watch.
I really wanted splash tetra and was honestly holding out for some to turn up. Maybe I'll get some to add to it.
Great video. Absolutely love the scape.
Such a cool tank, love your videos man, the way you mix the music is great
Very cool! I will have to try something like this at some point. Thanks for another inspirational video! 👍
After attaching the slate, Should've filled up the cork tubes partially with gravel to weigh it down some more. Looks absolutely amazing btw
Or mesh bags mixed with small volcano rock & aqua soil. Those house plants woulda went nuts for it
I did throw a few extra bits of slate in but there are cracks and holes in the cork bark and was worried it may split.
Need to try this!❤
Great build. I don't think you need plants in the water either you have the house plant roots and looks great. Thanks for sharing
Great project ! Love the look of this one ❤
Awesome
lovely video, wish you painted the back of the tank black or dark brown to give that extra sense of depth and mystery. love all the pants and also agree you didn't need submerged plants. thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I wanted to but I glued that 3d background in very well hahaha
Trigonostigma espei is one of my favourite fish for my asian biotopes. Have kept them with Trichopsis pumila and Spaerichthys vailianti with very fine results. 😊
Thanks for sharing! They are definitely one of my favourites and people underestimate them until they see them fully colored up.
Love this tank!!!
Yay, here early! Can’t wait to finish the video to see the end, love a jungle vibe!
@@FishShopMatthonestly possibly my favourite design you’ve ever done! Adore the realistic split with the plants above and the “decay” below. And great choice on fish too. Love it!
I love it and I might try it with some of my epiphyte orchids. They love to be mounted on cork!
I was tempted but they were quite pricey for something I may not do so well in keeping hahaha
@@FishShopMatt too bad you're not in the US, I'd send you a couple to try out! I definitely have more than my fair share haha
Yet another great video Matt!
Awwwww your pup❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hell Yeah , Pete wasn't playing around with that care package !!! Well deserved too , this got me thinking of how amazing it would be to have both Pete and Dave as channel sponsors ? I've not a clue what is involved with that but in all of my years watching YT not too many channels have them listed in the... opening title ? Green Aqua , Liquid Nature and George Farmer used to have 4 - 5 but I think it's just OASE now 🤔 Well I think that I'll get back to the show 🎬 🚬
Thank you and yep he came through with some awesome bits! It's hard with channel sponsors as shops are struggling, I want to try and help promote in any way I can and help the hobby grow.
fascinating aquascape, great video, attractive blogger.
I've got some croaking gouramis in with some espei rasbora. Great minds and all that. The gouramis have bred a few times with some fry surviving
That's amazing, we both have great choice in fish! Hopefully I may get some spawning!
Looooove it Matt! Would love to see a mist maker in the top half! I think it would just set it off!
@FishShopMatt excellent news! Was just thinking how cool it looks on MD's Timmy tank and I think it would look amazing on this one!
O Whoa love that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Living for the drama of the leak
love this tank set up with the cork i kinda see a turtle in this tank
@FishShopMatt im looking at getting a turtle but im not sure on species to look at before i even think about getting one timmy the turtle md has is probably the right size i have a tank in mind he is to go on my desk and have a camera pointed at it for stream lol i really enjoy the videos i really do like the concept with the cork bark for tree stumps
Best video yet. Kuli loaches are perfect for that setup, with the water level low. My last one just jumped out of my tank. :(
Cardinal tetras would love that setup.
Curious how the fern was watered at the top of the cork. I thought it was going to be watered with the pump, I guess that will be followed up with final pump setup. Would have been good to see the pump water circulated through the planters.
Excellent!
I'd really love to see how you tackle a tank with a smaller footprint but more vertical space, I think it could make for an interesting scape and/or species choices.
It's a hard one to do, but I always end up with taller pieces of wood and then plants tied to it.
I do have an idea for a canyon tank with rock glued up the walls on both sides but am yet to do it.
I lived in the UK and I had a friend Luke, he looked like you Matt.
Luke, if you're reading this, I hope you're all good man!
@@FishShopMatt If I see someone who looks like you, I'll ask for an autograph. Then if the autograph says "Luke" instead of "Matt" I'll say that jarek.zegarek said "Hi". Otherwise, since there can't be three people who look like you, I'll have you teach me everything you know, then I'll take down the titles and authors of all those books on your bookshelf. There must be a lot of knowledge encapsulated in those books, and I will want to read them all.
Nice one!
Some black or maybe adolfi cories would look amazing 🤩
I'm mad over corys, but would they do well with all that leaf litter on the bottom? I was under the impression that they liked hoovering up the sand. They would have to go under the leaf litter to get to the sand. Maybe they'd do fine with the leaves. I simply don't know, but would like to. Do you (or anyone else reading here) have experience with them in a tank which has heavy leaf litter?
Thanks for yet another awesome video Matt . Very inspiring , although I can't say I have ever seen cork bark or croaking gouramis available in Australia . I'd agree and add some Kuhli loaches . They're colourful and are fun to watch and study , in comparison to a lot of other "bottom dwellers" . Cheers mate , you are one of handful of people I enjoy seeing when I get to put my feet up after work . 👍
Thank you so much! After spending time with Kaity's cichlids I learnt that you guys have some strict rules on importing stuff to Australia.
Yeah I can't wait to get the kuhlis not that I'll ever see them! Haha
Just started using a few botanical leaves in my new setup. Been into my local Maidenhead aquatic’s and bought 10 oto’s and they are great little fish. Keep it secret but they are depositing eggs all over the place so I don’t know if they will grow out. Only had them a week or so. Great video again and I’m also just getting into this black water thing.
That's amazing! I have heard of a few people raising them and with lots of biofilm and botanicals they may be able to scavenge enough food.
Dignity and elegance award goes to Roma. 🏆Fun and informative award goes to Matt. 🏆😉
Hahaha dignity??? You need to come on a dog walk and watch her dignity then!
Some halfbeaks or panchax at the top would be good. Maybe a whiptail catfish or a royal farlowella would be cool
Never thought of using cork bark! And i got it in my bio active exo terras. Interesting 🤔
I'm at my name is John.I think you should put some loaches in there. And I think you should also put some betas. And a few neons I love your shoes by the way and your tanks look beautiful
Think you should put some ND film on the part of the tank without water. Will be able to film the tank without blowing out the highlights, as it's such an exposure contrast. This tank looks wicked though.
I love the side eye glance from one of the pups, it was like if you drip that on me I will not be happy !
As always a great tank, Thank you Matt. Ps can we have some of your wisdom on what things we have in the garden that we can use as botanicals ? I have Alder cones and oak leaves, but what else can we make use of ?
Oh they were totally worried about me dripping water on them!
Yes I have plans for this at some point. It depends what you're looking for in a botanical. I like mine to last so I have collected magnolia and palm leaves before to use.
Me scratching my head.....????
Uuuuuuummmmm.... 🤔
You know they used to call fishing bobbers "corks" right? Infact they used cork /corks...
Back to scratching my head... ??
😂🤣😂🤣😂
Looked awesome in the end 👍
Awesome scape and fish selection as usual. I thought you were going to go with leopard bush gourami or apistogramma 😂
I was swapping between splash tetras and apistos and then gourami and rasbora for a while. If I could have found splash tetras it would have been a different fish stocking
@@FishShopMatt copella arnoldi? Would be so cool to see them in your scape some day
Great tank Matt! I would love to see the Kuhli Loaches being added and may be a small school of Neon Blue Rasbora’s? I think the blue accent of them would be a lovely addition to the tank. I don’t know if it’s possible though…
I think I want to do a mini version of this for an African Dwarf Frog tank.
Im glad to see you are making functional things with the 3d printer. Id like to share some if the aquarium related stuff i designed, if you would?
We talked about a mount for the light on the small white aquarium for the small light bar
Sounds great! Send me a message on Instagram as that's the easiest way to communicate.
If you can find a pair of apistogramma nijsseni wouod be an awesome fish for this setup. When the female is spawning she will show dark black large spots. Usually males are more colorful apisto, but the female in this species is more colorful.
If someone is wondering, the printer is probably the Bambu Lab A1
Good spot! It is the A1, it's a great piece of kit and if I can use it anyone can.
Long live the flamingo cup!! You should sell them with your logo on it offishal #FSMaclimitisationflamingo
Hahaha it's a measuring cup from many years not sure I could get hold of enough. Maybe I'll design my own.
How about some rummynoses? I think they'll add an extra pop of colour and they're great in a blackwater setup; or maybe some top-dwelling fish as others have suggested.
Yeah. Thought you would agree. I have harlequins with rummynoses in one of tanks and the look really cool together. I'll be turning this into a sort of a blackwater setup this week.
Maybe too obvious but I think some thin convoluted twigs would add a nice detail.
I nearly did this when I was boiling the leaves and didn't want to overcomplicate it but I think you're right. Watch out for the update in a few weeks hahaha
Compliment: that wooden cabinet suits the water colour so well. #ensemble
Fantastic video, Matt! I loved how it came together at the end, with the superb fish choices. Cheers!
Thank you! Thanks for sending over the awesome hardscape to make it happen!!! 💜💜💜
