I certainly didn't remember this from when I read these books years ago. It's pretty weird that it seems to go unresolved. I'd imagine the best way to rewrite this to make more sense is if Percy jumping down to Tartarus to help save Annabeth ended up costing something big in the war against the giants. Percy could get injured somehow when he was down there and not be able to do something critical later, or I think even better would be if Percy being in Tartarus for a while instead of being with the rest of the heroes meant that he wasn't there for some critical moment that leads to something really bad happening because of his absence.

Unfortunately, I do believe that’s the sacrifice that Percy was supposed to make (letting Jason/Leo defeat Gaea). I think it’s partially because Rick forgot that Percy ALREADY DID THAT “SACRIFICE.” Literally, in the Last Olympian, who was the one who defeated Kronos? Not Percy! Percy fought him, but it was LUKE who ultimately “killed” Kronos (quotes since the dude’s a titan and can’t technically be killed). Percy already experienced the sacrifice of allowing someone else to sacrifice their own life for a greater cause. Yet, in HoO, that’s somehow forgotten? Idk. I hated it too tbh.
I've read 6, personally, I don't think so, and I kind of hope not.... Sort of spoilers ⬇️ The book is written more like a short story or a fanfic. Nothing really serious happens in it, and it's definitely not leading up to anything inpactful like that. It's more like just a fun look into Percy's life, kind of like the Demigod Files, but obviously, it's a bit too long to fit into that shorter format. If a sacrifice that has been talked about for 2 whole series happens in what feels like a short-story, I would be even more disappointed than if it were just forgotten.
It is not Rick's fault he doesn't like to break his reader's hearts. I love to hurt my readers (I once killed every ruler of twelve fairy courts and forced there children into power (the youngest was 8, the oldest was 17, well the youngest was a newborn (two mouths or so) but she was the second born so her sister took the throne. Percy Jackson doesn't need a bunch of dead people to make it's readers cry. PS Jason's death, Leo's fake death, Percabeth falling into Hell, even Nico's coco puffs could be considered a "sacrifice". Most of them are even stated like sacrifices in their own prophecies. I didn't watch the video I just came here to word vomit.
