    Love your videos Eugene!!!! It brings back so many memories from when I was there driving the same buses back in 2005-2007 as a student. So much has changed!!

      The ISM and the prior M11 are the only two that really compare to the L10 that came just before the original M11.

    I really don’t know why people hate gilligs, they look nice, they sound nice and they are faster than xcelsiors

    Man I love these buses this is where it’s at. Ugh I gotta say as much as I love the RTS buses in my day gilig just be taking the reigns for sure.

    Nice to see some old ones still on the road. Whenever I hear a Voith transmission I think of the university of Michigan because they had voith transmissions in their fleet.

    I grew up riding some of those units back in 08 if I remember when I was a toddler the sound just made me remember it exactly. But I mainly grew up in New York/Jersey when they had novabuses and orians. Those I was on more frequently but I’ve always wanted to ride the gilligs more, they are easier to find down south than up north.

    St. Louis Metro Transit had Phantoms with this same drivetrain setup. Music to the ears.

    We have 8 of the 2006 models in 40 foot versions but man are they terrible to drive. They sound great though, but they are just rough to deal with. Good to see the roads at your university are just as bad as ours haha

      I get this a lot. I guess the Trident has the same Allison ISM/Voith engine/transmission combo.

      @@eugew23 older uses M11 and newer uses ISM, sadly all trident is retired in HK

    The transmission actually sounds like a British City bus, Idk why, just reminded me of an Enviro bus.

      Some have GyroDrive regen flywheel generators that make that screaming along with the DIWA

    This is a 2006 Gillig Advantage powered by the Cummins ISM & Voith D864.3E. I like that Voith scream because it runs on clean diesel and LNG buses to reduce air pollution.

      These don't have any of that DPF crap on them.. Gillig didn't put that stuff on their buses until 2007

      Actually a bus driver told me you sort of tune it out after a while it also sounds like a Dover elevator buzz

    On our gilligs in New Mexico if you sit in the back you hear the turbo flutter

    and i only think its a dennis trident lol
    in hong kong we got ISM+864.3E tridents

    You do the most beautiful job in the world, you drive well and calmly it's cool, if I can give you a little advice, mount the camera lens a little higher to see the road and the landscape better.
    I like the American roads, it is different from the Belgian roads, it is only the clientele that does not really change 😅😅😅

    I have always wondered why such a large engine (at such low power) was an option in those buses when the 8.3 and 8.9 performed just fine. I guess it shall always remain a mystery, lol

    Cool vehicle, I've often wondered why buses from the US look so old compared to everywhere else, Stuff like the ADL Enviro 200,300 etc from the same time look futuristic in comparison.

      Gillig seems to have adopted the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality on the design of their buses. They have barely changed their bus design since the '80s, with the exception of their BRT models. Newflyer, on the other hand, have more modern designs.

      @@eugew23 Well yeah "If it ain't broke" why change it. I suspect safety requirements vary by country too, Huge bumpers aren't a thing where I am so manufacturers can get creative with fibreglass and make front ends more modern.
