Duuuudeee, you can see how great of a passer Bird was from the DEADLY accuracy of the ball thrown to Laimbeer! XD
Threaded the needle past 2 players and the coach, straight towards Bill's face! :D

Some backstory on Larry's fight with Dr J -- the narrator says Erving was having a bad night and Bird a good one, but in other accounts they tell that Larry was announcing to Dr J after every bucket what their personal scores were for the game. Depending on the story, when he got to "38 to 6" or "42 to 6" Erving lost it.

@@andrewft31 It was a Celtic team mate who made that comment from the bench.

Players didn't get it. You didn't want to piss Bird off because then you had to deal with an Angry Bird.

Laimbeer should not be on the HOF. That was one dirty assed player. Intentionally attempting to injure your opponent is sorry. No wonder Larry was pissed.

Larry was a constant target….he was usually torching the other team, so the idea was to injure Bird & take him out of the game

He was a poor kid from the rural projects so to speak. No problems fighting anyone. He was in a lot of bar fights.
He also was one of the smartest dudes. He was 2 moves ahead of the teams

Larry was famous for taking nothing from no one. He said if somebody's come at comes at you you got to stand your ground. And there may have been a few bar room bras in Boston here and there too.

Larry went to the local Boston bars and resident Bostonians respected him and left him alone. Of course tourists would come over and the locals would herd them away from Larry. He became family. One of the bar fights was the night before a playoff game and next day Larry scores a triple double. Legend.

*Mad respect* for those refs! They're like 6'2" jumping between 6'10"/7' players brawling! Big ol' brass balls! O_o

What weird is Lambier never needed to be such a bad ass. He was a legit great player without his antics.. Never understood why he would elbow or shove people. But I guess he had his ways.

Bill came from a very, very wealthy family. Maybe he was trying to get street cred with the other players.

I grew up in these times and it was wild!! Some nights were more like a hockey game with the fights!!😂 Lambier was one of the dirtiest players back then and he's the one who took Larry down by the neck. Dennis Rodman was another notorious fighter. Did you see the manager's jacket split down his back out on the court?!! One of them spilt his jacket open😂😅 5:11 I saw another fight in the Boston garden in the 80s, guys driving into the bleachers to catch balls, etc. You just don't see the hustle of those years anymore!! Loved your reaction video!! New sub!✌😁

See the comment below telling how birds repeated bucket by bucket trash talk about his score vs. Julius Irvings (38 Larry, to 6 for Irving) led to Irving losing it and starting the fight--LOL Larry got in his head big time while he was torching him, one of Birds legendary trash talk stories - but Larry wasnt afraid of anyone.

  • @bimini1216
    @bimini1216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The way to stop bird, who was going to mess up your day was to double him and beat him around. No other way to stop him. Imagine like having to guard a guy who was talking on your whole team and carving you up. 1 step ahead of everyone. So guys would elbow and bang him.
They forgot he was a poor kid from rural projects so to speak. They settle it with fists. Where he came from they swing back

This was the National Basketball Association, and the physical play in the NBA often lead to these type episodes. ....Somewhere in the last 15 years, they changed the name to the National Ballerina Association, and suddenly, magically and miraculously, players suddenly got more athletic and faster and could shoot better and from farther out....hmmm,it is almost as though being held, pushed, grabbed, shoved, elbowed and clipped limited a players free movement and negatively effected shooting percentages......
