This technique is actually quite a good example of mixing skin tones from primaries but you have to be careful how much of each colour you add, especially the blue.
Yellow + blue = green. Green is the complimentary colour of red (opposites on the colour wheel) so can be mixed with red to desaturate & darken it slightly, resulting in a more natural orange/brown base colour. This is then mixed with white (as shown in the video).
Another way is to mix red + yellow first to make orange, then add teeny bits of blue to desaturate (make less vivid) and darken slightly. Final base colour should be a tan orange/brown which is added to white in various amounts = varying shades.
The new white mixes can be tinted yet again using small amounts of (one) of the 3 primary colours until you are happy with the results!
