This was called New Wave, putting an Offbeat to Punk and you got New Wave. The most famous band of this was "The Police". Next step was New Wave with synthesizers.
That's right, though punk and new wave were synonym at the very beginning. The reggae influence came from the Jamaican immigrants in the UK and rastas and punks shared their dislike towards the authorities (Babylon). Also from this emerged the second wave of 2-Tone ska.
