Xibalba translated as "place of fear" is the name of the underworld in K'iche' Maya mythology, ruled by the Maya death gods and their helpers.
Well,through this album sakis wanted to make us learn and search,I think he did it!

Holy crap. Where has this band been all my life?
Heard about this band for years. Never checked them out. Seemed too niche. Went to a Marduk concert. Marduk was cancelled. Rotting Christ took over headline duties. Seemed like they played for hours. Amazing to behold. Loved every second. Totally mesmerizing.
I'd heard of them for years but like you, figured they wouldn't be my thing. I couldn't have been more wrong and I wish I got into them sooner. Everything from Thy Mighty Contract to A Dead Poem to this album to The Heretics, their whole discography is magnificent.
@Gareth I listen to Black metal for it's atmosphere, and so far no one is quite as entrancing as Rotting Christ. I haven't listened to their full discography, but I'd even dare to say this album is the most atmospheric one they've made.

I've seen them once too, and I'm glad I did! I too was hesitant on them for a while... until I heard their music. It's so incredibly well crafted I haven't looked back since.

Best RT song. One of the most underrated bands ever. I knew of RT since 1993 when I moved to Greece from Albania. But being too obsessed with Metallica and Maiden, I never gave RT the benefit of the doubt. Probably I was not ready for them. It was my loss. 25 years later I realized what I have been missing. I can't get enough of RT now, trying to make up for lost time. Please come to Canada soon, RT. Hail from Canada!

This song has has a particular meaning for me, with the birth of my daughter three years ago. When I listen to this I become something else. This is Black metal

This album is just amazing... After spending my life listening to mainstream metal this band is a breath of fresh air, every song on the album execpt track 5 is just awesome, It should be the soundtrack to the darkest horror film ever!!!!.....The drumming is relentless .
Try Passage to Arcturo, Thy Mighty Contract or Non Serviam, just to name a few from the early 90s, perhaps you have already,if not, I'm sure you'll be hooked up immediately on the early days of RC, these guys have been awesome from their beginnings!!! best Greek metal band ever!

I love and respect this band, I don't speak greek (wish I could) so I could envelope myself even deeper to the music.
In Aztec Mythology we don't have any hell like Xibalba, Death is just transformation for us. We believe in a Sacred Place call Mictlan (The place where the deads go) but it is a nice and warm place to rest in peace and every person goes there.

This is a funny comment. I discovered RC with this album and was excited to see they had so many albums under their belt already. Went and listened to all their previous stuff, and nothing sounds like this. So this one and Rituals are actually the only ones I like.

yes!! and in the Popol Vuh -a book of mayan myths written after spanish conquest- is the place where the death was transmutated to life for the action of the divine twins that fought against the lords of Xibalba.
