All he was saying, was that against more experienced sides Steve Finnen would struggle when left 1v1 on the wing so if Gerrard was RM he would have to drop back. For example if they played against united, you think he's gonna be guaranteed to cope against Ronaldo? Not worth the risk because he wasn't a solid full back.
Not speaking shit: he's spot on and showing the arrogance any Liverpool player has and what have they won in years! Players like Gray had to carry sides and didn't have the luxury of not worrying that others would keep the pressure off them, so they had to bloody do the job!
Gerard was never a classic midfield player. He was a Roy of the Rovers type player. He made dramatic interventions in matches and was better utilised in a free role. He played his best football when Alonso and Mascherano did the midfield work giving Gerard licence to get forward and create from forward positions.
