Great episode between Gilligan and the skipper. Shows the real friendship between the two.

So glad you're alive Skipper. I would not know what to say to you if you were dead. Leave it to Gilligan to say such a classic line. Lol

This should be called "Gilligan and Skipper, A Hanging Offense." One of my favorite episodes.

Skippers making a hangman's noose, but tells Gilligan not to trip over the vine , he might break his neck. Dark humor.

This episode was both sad and funny! Both Gilligan and the Skipper made sure that they looked out for each other, even in situations like in "Court-Martial." There was also a dream sequence in this episode where Lord Admiral Gilligan showed his gallantry fighting off the pirates (Professor, Skipper and Mr. Howell) and (tried) to rescue the ladies (Mary Ann, Ginger and Mrs. Howell)!!!

A lot of the music used in this clip was actually originally recorded for "It's About Time".

First Gilligan stop The Skipper from hanging himself because they heard on the radio of him being blamed for the loss of The Minnow, then later The Skipper stops Gilligan from hanging himself after he found out that he lost The Minnow by not having the anchor line attached to the anchor he threw the night they got caught in the storm. Then they decide to live on the other side of the island alone before getting vindicated.

Its strange to me that back in the 1950’s and 1960’s when they still had censors for TV shows that they had to have married couples sleeping in separate beds, they couldn’t use the word “pregnant”, and if a woman bared her midriff, her pants, shorts, or skirt had to come up high enough to cover her belly button, but they talked about suicide often and everyone seemed to think that was ok. I don’t remember all the shows that talked about it, but, obviously one show was Gilligan’s Island and it wasn’t just in one episode either. There were episodes where other characters talked about it as well. And it was mentioned in I Love Lucy at least once, maybe more. These were family shows, so they had to know that there would be kids watching. I would prefer that the kids saw married couples in the same bed, women’s belly buttons, and heard the word “pregnant”, rather than hearing people talking about suicide.

Never thought of that before. That's so odd.

You're right. But at the same time, TV shows back then weren't so damn in-your-face about things like they are now. The name of the episode where Lucy discovers she's expecting is "Lucy is Enceinte", which is the French word for "pregnant". Of course our education system was better then, and more people knew French, so they understood. I had no idea the talk about suicide was so prevalent in those older shows. It's implied that Skipper was a WWII navy vet, and a lot of WWII vets were still in their 30s and 40s at the time. Between WWII, Korea, and then Vietnam, I'm surprised so many shows were so lackadaisical about death and suicide, which I'm pretty sure people of that time had seen a lot of.
Wow, now I have to go back and research these. I can't imagine I Love Lucy talking about suicide or even in other episodes of Gilligan's Island. All of the episodes are on Tubi, which is where I've been watching them.
Gilligan is so lovable and innocent that it's heartbreaking to even think he would hang himself. Imagine how the others would feel if this had actually happened.

Could you imagine what it would have done to the other castaways if either or both had committed suicide? Talk about breaking their spirits. 😢

Gilligan and the Skipper remind me so much of Laurel and Hardy.

Gilligan is obviously Stan Laurel because he’s an idiot and the Skipper is Oliver Hardy because he’s like a bully in a funny way
