Also, I was with Steve during previews while he was on the phone with Furth and Steve said [about the second act Not A Day Goes By] "I'm not so sure we need so much of Mary in the song; if we care so much about her at that point." I yelled out: "WHAT!? That's the WHOLE point-- that she's showing been in love with him the entire time!"
Steve said to George (who didn't have a clue who I was then): "My friend Ron here says we need to keep Mary in that number to stress the relationship." George strongly agreed and Steve also thought better of it.... November 7, 1981.
