Enjoyed your presentation. Was on the inaugural trip from Glasgow to London, with family, back in the early eighties. Still have the memorabilia hand out at the time. Just had to buy the model when it came out and still packed away. Going to try and change over the Ringfield motor with a replacement from Strathpeffer Junction.
Good Morning Matt.Yes very nice that,i tend to buy used older models myself for a number of reasons really, apart from the cost of some of the newer models,i find the older items easier to work on and service. Some of the newer items look wonderful mind, but they just are not as robust as the older items.Oh and yes please do more videos like this.Thanks.
Enjoyed the video. Do enjoy keeping older models going, both because I love seeing the old girls still at work but also because they cost a lot less than modern locos!
Great video, Matt. That is a cracker of a model for its time and age. Heck, new out of the box today, it would be better than many, many models. And yes, I love this series.
Please keep doing reviews on older models because they are still decent models and for beginners they can be a cheap and easy way into the hobby and on a maintenance point of view are easier to maintain and service.
At least 50% of my models are of this vintage so yes I do like to see the old models, keep it up Matt. Not got the APT-P but even getting a good old one is not so cheap nowadays, I do like the look of the train.
Hi Matt, I have two of these and they look great going around my layout. Each came in their own box, one small R 2467-26-07. The other larger and rectangular. I think this one was the marked “Export”. and was marked R978 I live in Toronto and bought both used a number of years ago and both have complete pantographs. One runs well and the other requires one small part for the motor
Depends what you want it for and what you care about getting. It's a bit ethereal this concept of a "good model" Do we mean detail? Value? Reliability? Livery application? Etc etc etc. The camera also captures stuff better then most peoples eyes and blows it up onto a screen so you'll never see what you're going to see of a model at home in a video🤣 but, still nice to look at things isn't it
Great video Matt I have one of these old sets from 1981 with the black window surrounds which is my personal favourite APT livery but I do have two driving trailers with the full yellow ends, the model in my opinion is good and when you get it on some tight curves like first and second radius you can really see the tilt which makes it look even better, I do have the pantograph as well. I have made a few upgrades on mine, I have fitted extra pickups to the power car, I have added LED lighting but this is only in the forward direction at the moment although I may look into adding rear lighting some day, I added the destination blinds to both the driving and van trailers and I also applied overhead warning transfers to each vehicle. My main issue with these old APTs is the lack of extra coaches which gets even more annoying because I did see somewhere that hornby back in the 80s was going to manufacture an extra coach but this didn’t happen in the end, there are some options out there that can be used to expand the five car set but they require a lot of work which I don’t mind doing but it would have been nice to be able to expand these to a full rake easier.
Great video Matthew just keep them coming when you get the time. Now as you mentioned yes a tad jumpy but overall it ran like any model that you have at jubilee road old or modern and looking at the length of the train it reminds of the new trains that Transport for Wales are having which in context iam referring to the bogies. JJ
Mine is fantastic bought a couple of years ago still in its original box from a fellow youtuber ,the pink is not faded lol , mine is also city of Derby and still has its pantograph but that is kept safe in the box. Brian
Looks really good and it is in great condition for its age, I love the Apt. Sadly the only one left is at the crew heritage centre 😢!

I don't advise that, a good overhaul has them going beautifully. The replacement lacks torque and weight (which these need)
Very nice model Trainset of The APT. 🚆 Now i want one or two.😃 Awesome demonstration & video. 👍💯
Matt, Yes please keep up with reviewing older locos, it very interesting. Chris

And they aren't made in China!
Nice review, Matt. That APT looks great running on the Jubilee Road!

Watching this video makes me wonder if the new ones will last as long as the old model thankyou for the video

Yes I have one. I like it. Thinking of ddc on it
Are you doing a layout update soon?
Strange how the APT became so iconic when it never truly took to the rail network.
The APT-P was used as a relief train between 1984-85. It was quite successful.
I have two, but would like to add more, but where can i get them from. The coaches are not compatable with later generation units
Just picked one of these up for £25, missing pantograph tho,
