    Great video. I keep the following quotes in mind: "When I'm painting I've no idea what I'm doing. It's only after a get acquainted period that I see what I'm about. I've no fear of making changes, for the painting has a life of its own". Jackson Pollock. "When I'm falling, I know I'm ok". Willem DeKooning.

    I just started painting abstract.What I'm used to doing is acrylic poured paint where I get all my colors then layer them into one cup with several layers.Then I used a blow dryer to the paint around the canvas. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.I call those ones a "do over".
    I'm getting better at it.I have a deal working with a local coffee shop and the owner is going help with the selling them. So hopefully it'd works out for me.

    Color always throws me off. I'm learning to use a limited palette initially and then adding some vibrancy later on, when the painting is starting to talk 😂 Also keeping a few paintings going at a similar rate helps me to bounce around without losing focus.

    Hey Jodie... Just a heads-up in teaching... I hope the following suggestions will be of help to you in your tutoring style and your building your TH-cam followers. Please don't think I am a "Know-it-all," as I am not. But, I do try to have positive critiques that can make a positive difference to those who I do take the time to write.
    As in this video, you gave 5 pointers. At the end of the video, you should name the 5 points you gave in your video just to summarize what you taught. It's also beneficial for your watchers to have the points you discussed in the info about the video, so they can write them down or copy them for future reference. Also, the notes on the white board behind you with negatives, are negatives that your viewers pick up subconsciously. They don't help you, when you are working, and they don't help your viewers. That may be one of the reasons why you've had 10,500 views, but not 500 likes.
    Just some helpful insights from my parents being teachers, and my own experience as a tutor. My best to you as you work to build your audience. ;)

    Hi again it’s me lynne. Could you tell me what kind of house paint brushes you use? I would go get a few from home depo. I have alot of brushes but usually for my medium some big ones probably would work? Have a good one🌻

    • @JodieKingArt
      @JodieKingArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lynne, Unfortunately I bought them years ago and I don't see a name brand on the brushes. But one rule I generally follow is to buy the best brush for the cost. The bristles in the cheaper brushes will tend to shed so I pay a little extra for good quality. Good luck!

      @@JodieKingArt I think
      Don’t say things what’s a mistake . I follow what Van Gogh says . There is no rule in art and no mistake . Do your own way to do art .that’s a artist !!

  • @lynnesachs2330
    @lynnesachs2330 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello I just stumbled on you … on u tube.I really think that they way you explain.. I think your cool like me really. Are you using acrylic paint ? If so do you use the lower end? Just asking, I am a mixed media artist and I am now trying abstract man ole man it looks easy but no it’s NOT! a I watch a lot of videos and it’s funny everyone has there own twist. I like how you explain because it’s more realistic not …. My space is so cluttered . I have no room to do big canvases at the moment . I am going to get a company to build a space to put everything because it’s not a art room it’s a dining sorta area. Regardless I need to have 2 or 3 going at the same time or different times so I don’t try and use a dryer every time or have it sit over night. Then try and start another. I hope you get back with me, I like your presence your totally calm relaxed. And I am the same type of painter want to change it up as soon as I hate how it’s looking. I do take a picture and another ..then sleep on it. There is so much I could say. I’d rather listen to your words of wisdom. Thanks alot peace out !

      Hi Lynne, I use Nova Color Paint. Their paint is very high quality but since they only sell direct to artists via their website, their costs are much better than many of the higher-priced brands. And you're right, abstract looks easy, but its widely considered one of the most difficult styles to paint. Keep going! You've got this! The more you paint, the better you'll get and painting often helps us define our style.

  • @pocahontasseguinart7099

    I have to tell you this . Do not ever say what’s a mistake . It’s dumb . As a artist I do not like that about people. Van Gogh says there is no mistake no rule in art . It’s your art .
    People that don’t understand people like me and Van Gogh need to understand why I drew or paint this .

    You can't make mistakes in abstract. That's why it's called abstract. If you make a mistake; oops. Well, it's just part of the artwork. There are no rules about it.

    Abstract expressionist are like actors playing painters. They wear their uniform, and say their lines. Of course the same can be said for people that hate abstract art haha
