Just finished one! I was working on my own and terribly confused, and then I found your video. Your instructions saved my project from the junk pile! Thank you for such clear instructions!
HI Sherrill, I was getting in a bit of a pickle with my Japanese knot bag and then I came across your demonstratrion and now I have managed to make a lovely bag. Thank you.
I made this bag from the tutorial and it worked out great. It’s the first time I made a lining for a bag so I was glad to learn something new. Thank you!
I started off making this following someone else on TH-cam and I gave up because it was confusing. Thankfully I then found you! Your tutorial was amazing and so very well explained. I now have a Lovely knot bag. Thank you!
I was just looking online at what a Japanese knot bag was, as I was just introduced to it, and I wanted to make one in satin for an event, and I died laughing at the end. May I say you are a very thorough teacher, and so adorable with your video.
Hi Jen. I am so glad you liked the Japanese knot bag. My husband, Manny💗, is a big ham and loves helping me out with my video endings, and sometimes helps in the tutorial itself. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Love love love the bag. I have a lot of Japanese taupe fabric that will look fantastical made into this bag. I also do some embroidery which would beautifully enhance this Japanese tote bag. Thanks.
Hi Sherril! I love this video! You make a Japanese knot bag looks so easy! In the future would you be able to do a video of a purse or bag with a zipper closure? Thank you so much!
Hi Holly. Here is a link to my tutorial on a large tote bag with a zipper closure. th-cam.com/video/7LbIbm2t6iE/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hi Sheryl. I have made many of your projects and enjoy your videos. My question for the Japanese Knot bag is, if I make the square larger than 11"X11" should I make the handles longer or leave them at 10 1/2" and 4 1/2". Thank you.
Hi, Sherrill! I'm new to sewing and I'm so thankful I happened upon your videos! You explain everything simply and are very easy to follow along with (which I need! LOL!]. I have a quick question for you - Do you recommend prewashing 100% cotton fabrics before starting the Japanese Knot bag project (or any other projects)? Thank you! 😁
Hi Julia. Yes, you should pre-wash cotton fabrics. Before washing do a zigzag stitch on the raw edges of the fabric. This will prevent the fabric from unraveling during the wash/dry cycle. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas, and happy sewing 😍
Hi Sheryl! Question. Have you ever considered doing a video on “pinning”? There are so many different kinds and I sometimes have trouble getting a hem to stay when pinned. It wants to unfold even with the pin in it. I also struggle on which direction to place them. I don’t know how to use all the different sized pins and which type of project they are to be used for.
Wonderful idea. Looking for bag pattern to make for Child Services. Children get pulled out if their homes with nothing to put their belongings in except trash bags. ( What message does that send?). Something like that, but bigger, with pockets will be great! Thanks for sharing.
Yes, but make sure the ends of the handles are not stitched together until after the bag is turned right (front) side out. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
You are the best online sewing teacher. Your sewing steps are so exact that it feels like a project a beginner can be a winner! Thanks, Sherrill!

Hi JoAnne. It should be okay to make the handles the same size. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

Seems simple but isn’t, huh? But I use long pins, quilters, with flat heads, for everything. Of course, I don’t sew like this lol.
Hi Kelli. Thanks for the great suggestion - good tip of the week idea. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Cute!
Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

Thank you so much for watching and happy sewing! 😍
I have a question. Instead of cutting slits in the bottom of the bag, could you just use pinking shears? Or would that cut too deep? Thank you!
You can try it but don't cut the seam width too short. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Would it work to leave the opening in the lining instead of in the handles?
Yes, but make sure the ends of the handles are not stitched together until after the bag is turned right (front) side out. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
