I just dusted mine off from the first slim. They never had games so I fell away. Homebrew has opened the flood doors. I see they finally added games, now I can get PSP and PS1 games to boot! It is now what I wish it was.
How I missed your content here on YT. Also, thank you so much for making this video. This really made me remember back those fun years of me just playing the PS Vita.
Always going to say the same thing since the day I got the device way back around when it came out- but if the memory cards didn't cost that much, the vita would have done just fine. That's always the thing that held the system back in my eyes.
Wow, what a way to come back with a bang Tark! This was such an amazing video and despite my love for the Vita, I learned so much about its history that I didn't know before. The Vita is one of the main reasons I fell in love with JRPGs and I'll forever be grateful for it. Looking forward to the next video (that teaser at the end has me excited)!
Actually that "lack of variety" of AAA games on the Vita opened my eyes to some of the greatest games I've ever played ranging from Cold Steel, Sly Collection (1 to 4), Lost Dimension, Sword Art Online (all three), Uta Kumi 575 and Tokyo Xanadu. Great video! It took me back to 2011, when I first saw the PS Vita in a demo kiosk in Akihabara a few days after it launched. I also remembered the struggles we VitaIslanders had to go through those years (2012-2015) when not a lot of games were arriving on the Vita...
An awesome project for an awesome platform! This video put so many smiles on my face. I still remember getting my Vita in 2015 as a birthday gift (the model 2000 with Borderlands 2) and while I already loved JRPGs and niche games, the Vita introduced me to so many new genres, styles and experiences that I doubt I would have went out of my way to try otherwise. Not only that, but having a huge library of PSP and PSone games at my disposal made it even better... I even double dipped on a few PSP games just to get the digital copy xD The Vita will always have a special place in my heart, and while I love my PS4, the Vita is the last system that really feels like "Classic" PlayStation, wild, unique and full of ideas you can't find anywhere else
Such an amazing job on this video Tarks. Not going to lie, the ending has me getting emotional. I remember the day I bought my Vita, and I always kept it safe and pristine shape. This was the first system I made the extra effort to take care of like it was my baby and I’m happy to say my sweet Vita has nary a scratch on her. Now I want to charge it, and play the hell out of it for old times sake.
Man, I almost lost it at the end. I've bought mine at launch and installed CFW about 2 years ago. Sometimes I got the urge tu buy a switch or a steam deck but I think I will just stick with the vita. Since jailbreaking it a whole new world opened up for me. Great video, honoring this amazing handheld.
Big salute to you on this video! I'm a huge huge Vita fan, I play it almost on daily basis! proud to be biggest collector of Vita games in my own country (the reason why I'm mostly broke LOL). Keep playing man, Switch will never be a true replacement of Vita and you have displayed some games which I didn't come across yet, got me interested in seeking them, thanks!
I’m here quite literally because of Food4Dogs. I got my first Vita months ago, there’s nothing nostalgic about it for me. I just regularly play it when I’m not home. :)
I love that channel so much! also excellent documentary! seeing Brian Tong from Cnet is really nostalgic funny enough, I used to watch him review every single cell phone iirc.
This video is an amazing introduction for me to the Vita. I am a new Vita owner, got a wrong charger, but awaiting for my delivery of the actual charger 😅. I never knew how big the community is, and I am glad to see it thriving. I wanted to get a Vita back in the day, but I couldn't, because all of the expenses you need to make for the console. But finally I found a good deal and got the console. So once I get the charger, oh boy I will be playing LittleBigPlanet Vita, Gravity Rush, possible even Persona 4 Golden, Tearaway, and even other classics I can't think of right now. By the way this video is amazing, soo good. Everyone involved clearly had love for the Vita and you can tell. Thank you for this amazing video.
Man, this documentary was truly a marvel! It really shows Tarks’ true skill at retrospective journalism and injecting his own anecdote to the mix. The PsVita was always a mystery console here in Scandinavia and hearing that it is indeed region free makes me want to hunt one down! Thanks again for the delightful video sir😊🙏 METAL! Oh btw, you are looking damn fit sir💪
Oh man. I love my vita, sadly its on my desk because i havent had time to play. But it was and will always be my favorite console. Those 300 hours on P4G back in the day will always be on my memory.
@@Gloryboyquan basically life happens. I've been busy with a lot of things that don't really allow me to make time to play videogames as much as I used to back in my high school days.

I watch absolutely tonnes of youtube on a daily basis and i never comment on anything. It's great to have you back man - this video was outstanding, well done.
Hacking this device is honestly like unlocking a chest filled with never ending games. I have access to all psp, psp mini, ps1 and psvita games. It’s fcking crazy
So I bought a PS Vita 4 months ago for a friends wedding on the plane ride. It was about a 4-5 hour ride, needless to say I purchased a hacked Vita to utilize the apps like adrenaline and PKG. Let me tell you guys, this purchase was one of the best things I’ve bought in a long time! Having the ability to play classic Pokémon games from the gameboy color to playing old school psp classics like bully and god of war this machine is nostalgic trip down memory lane! I’m still finding new games (like Hotline Miami) that are sooo damn fun to play! PS Vita is one of the most slept on gaming consoles of all time!
love this! very well put together with some bits and pieces i didn't even know about and some jolly cameos. among the vita rettospect videos, this one has to be one of the best. am a late adopter myself (2019), tried the vita more out of curiousity (to play the crossplatform söldner x2 on a handheld) and became somewhat obsessed with it. my favourite model is the 1000 (used with a basic grip for comfort) and my favourite edition is the cosmic red soul sacrifice premium edition (the delta version of the game is also one of my top 3 games on the plattform). despite the more modern tech, no other plattform hits the spot like the vita does, so thus will likely stay my favourite handheld. thanks for putting in the effort to make this video.
Really awesome video! I finally dusted off my Vita this week and modded it. The modding and homebrew scene for the vita is so excellent and still quite active! People are figuring out ways to port new titles to the system and emulation continues to improve year after year.
As of the time of this writing, it's almost August of 2023 and my Vita remains my most played system. The number of homebrew games and ports are countless and growing each day.
This gives me childhood nostalgia even though I was in my early 20s for almost all of this. Didn't know LRG history either, but this video makes me feel like I'm mourning a friend. Even my TH-cam avatar is a screenshot from a Vita game.
I’ve loved my vita since I grabbed one around 2016. After hacking it, the vita becomes a blast to mess around with. I do enjoy playing the switch, but the vita is usually my go to.
Such an imformative, and emotional video. You really told the story well, and summed up why we all loved the Vita so much. I also laughed my ass off at the Vita fan gag :P
Thank you so much for making this video I have owned my vita for about 2 years now and have had a blast playing and buying games I would have never thought I would have enjoyed in a million years. Additionally, my top 5 favourite games would have to be a copy of Puyo puyo tetris I imported from Japan, Race the sun a high score indie game, a copy of Minecraft I imported from Japan, persona 4 golden, and undoubtedly my favourite Vita game/memory would have to be when I found YS 8 at my local game store for very cheap and I played it and loved it and will never forget the experience of playing it for the first time. Anyways, sorry if I rambled on for a little bit there I just love the vita so much and enjoy everything about the system I wish I could talk about it for hours but I guess it’s probably good to stop at some point. Finally, have a great day and thank you so much for making this documentary on one of my favourite consoles of all time.
This video is amazing. I got a ps vita only about a year ago, but I had been interested in it since launch. I was in college at the time and didn't have the money to spend, but was lucky to have a coworker give me her vita about a year ago. The ps vita is my least played handheld, but it's the most interesting to me. I've played trails of cold steel 1&2, and went back and just recently finished trails in the sky fc. I wish I bought one back in the day. The vita is amazing and it's a real shame that it didn't do as well as it should have. thank you for this video, it was both enlightening and entertaining, and you have an amazing channel.
I would of never seen this video if it wasn't for Irchas community post and that makes me so sad youtube doesn't recommend me this type of content more. this video was amazing!! the intro alone I knew that the hour was going to be worth it and my god it was, I've never owned a vita but I have been a handheld gamer since I can remember and I'm definitely going to be buying a vita locally now, you did such a great job at capturing your love for the vita and made a really high quality video out of it, keep it up!
This video deserves more views and like. I watched the whole thing and the ending hit hard 😢 I feel lucky to have discovered this fantastic handheld and the Vita community continues to thrive. Vita means life. Vita forever!!!
I bought mine like a month ago and after modding a PSP ; I was really happy how easy it was to Mod a PS vita. It literally takes a few steps to mod it and you can make it anyway you want. I love the PSP and the PS vita. Plus it had the OLED screen 5 years before the switch. It is still competent.
Oh my! I have been looking very much forward to this ever since Ircha hinted at it in her Podcast 😊🤘 I already thank you for this documentary, will return with a proper comment after completing the video!
I still love the Vita. I used remote play when it worked and it was fun. Lots of great games and I love the psp and classics on it. In my opinion, just 2 things changed at launch would have allowed it to gain more early sales and support… if they launched it with a 199.99 base price for the unit alone, and had a 249.99 price point for a bundle with a high end game and a memory card, they would have seen more initial sales and more support from AAA devs. Also, changing the proprietary memory card format to the generic card, that would have greatly increased accessibility. There is more that could have changed but those things I think would have given it a much stronger launch and first few years. That said, it’s a unique hand held and I’m glad we got what we did from it. Fantastic console I still love.
Great video, sums up the systems legacy and love the inclusions of the other content creators who are known in the Vita community. You were so right about bringing niche genres to gamers. I wasn't big on jrpgs, visual novels, or dungeon crawlers until I got a vita. As I got older, the AAA games and shooters I always played just weren't cutting it for me anymore and I decided to experiment. I will always sing the vitas praises as a console out of time. It's sweet spot of games 2012-2016 was so short lived and damn its a shame.
I was proud to be a part of the vita community early on. I feel like due to it's smaller library at the beginning it made me branch out and try weirder titles that I found enjoyment in. Already being a huge fan of JRPGs and niche games through steam, it's later additions to the library was just a treasure trove in my eyes. I feel like it did accomplish getting the 'feeling' of console quality ps3 generation games onto a portable device. Which was impressive especially for back then. It's just a shame sony mistreated it. Oh well. I'll still appreciate what we got especially after installing cfw it's become my go to system to emulate in bed or on the go. Playing soul sacrifice at it's peak alone made the entire console worth it imo. Anyway great video! Glad to see you back, you're definitely one of the most slept on youtubers I know.
Great coverage Tarks! A great homage ot a fantastic gaming device! I love both my ps vita (oled and led) and it's obvious it could've been so much more... Cheers!
Amazing documentary, it’s incredible man! Thank you for sharing your experience and your love for Psvita! I bought a psp Japanese version when it launched and I still have it and I’m actually playing the amazing port Cave Story! But I want to buy a Psvita because I see that the passion and respect for this console lives beyond Sony… This documentary should be seen on a big streaming platform by everyone! If someone wants to understand how the Nintendo Switch appeared, you have to understand Psvita and Pstv legacy! ❤
GREAT video, brother!! I agree wholeheartedly with you. I love my PS5 and Switch but very often I go back to my vita. I’m actually playing Trails in the Sky SC on my Vita right now
Maybe it's just a matter of phrasing but you can't play 1080p in handheld mode. I guess I should have just said that using the dock allows for higher resolution play?
PSVITA is still a great machine, I cracked it a few years ago but I did a software update by mistake and dont want to do the whole process Again... sad. Wish they could come with another handled to give access to all ps1-2-3-psp-psvita games.

I just got a vita!!!!!! And I love it I'm so happy I don't have oled anymore playing games and nightcry!!!!!! Best experience!!!!!!! And great ports too!!!!!! I've went through hell getting nightcry on it great port and great game very underrated¡!!!!!! I love my vita no more joycons slipping off a system the switch OLED sucks¡!!!!
VITA FAN!!! I’m dying over here Tarks 🤣
You’re guests and their stories of the Vita is quite heartwarming
I appreciate and adore this video Tarks, amazing job
This is officially one of my favorite you tube videos ever, so many many memories, Play Station Vita, Vita means Vida ❤️ greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
The way you strated the video with one of the soundtracks of some best videogames of vita just made me happy. I love gravity rush
I even double dipped on a few PSP games just to get the digital copy xD
The Vita will always have a special place in my heart, and while I love my PS4, the Vita is the last system that really feels like "Classic" PlayStation, wild, unique and full of ideas you can't find anywhere else
You know it's going to be a good day when you wake up and you see a new hour long Tarks video!
Extremely high quality video man! Well researched, well delivered, high production value and editing, really amazing stuff here.
Good to see you again making content, it's been a while since.
PSVita is like one of the most beautiful characters in a story that has to say goodbye too soon. 😢
I’m here quite literally because of Food4Dogs. I got my first Vita months ago, there’s nothing nostalgic about it for me. I just regularly play it when I’m not home. :)
Me too. 😊
I love that channel so much! also excellent documentary! seeing Brian Tong from Cnet is really nostalgic funny enough, I used to watch him review every single cell phone iirc.
I love Food4Dogs, she is so wholesome
39:54 Vivi!! (...or is it this his cloned brother🤔?)
You’re such a good narrator I literally cried towards the end 😭
He really is!
THAT AYREON POSTER. I'm less than 5 minutes in, and I already have respect for you, sir.
Love how the vita is having another renaissance with the incredibly passionate homebrew community spearheaded by legends like the FloW and rinnegatamante.
What guide did you use? I wanna mod my vita but idk if i should use baline lockairs guide
@@breezy_too-cheezy4341 use Blaine’s guide. He is very specific and tells you what to do step by step in his jailbreak vid.
This was a very well-done final send-off to an amazing piece of hardware.
this guy is a videomaking genius, some of the best work i've seen on here
I loved this video. Got my vita on launch day, and today it is my hacked PS1/PSP machine. PS1 games on the OLED screen are gorgeous.
At least the home brew scene is keeping it alive and kicking
Thank you for taking the time to this Documentary. Love from a fellow Vita player to this day.
love this! very well put together with some bits and pieces i didn't even know about and some jolly cameos. among the vita rettospect videos, this one has to be one of the best. am a late adopter myself (2019), tried the vita more out of curiousity (to play the crossplatform söldner x2 on a handheld) and became somewhat obsessed with it. my favourite model is the 1000 (used with a basic grip for comfort) and my favourite edition is the cosmic red soul sacrifice premium edition (the delta version of the game is also one of my top 3 games on the plattform). despite the more modern tech, no other plattform hits the spot like the vita does, so thus will likely stay my favourite handheld. thanks for putting in the effort to make this video.
pull up on vita bro what u playing
I love this community. Thanks for the great video!
Proudly holding my vita in my hands. A great video, thank you
Thank you so much for making this video I have owned my vita for about 2 years now and have had a blast playing and buying games I would have never thought I would have enjoyed in a million years.
I feel like I only remember Tearaway, and then no one talking about it except people saying that no one talked about it.
I love this so much! I feel like we need a part 2 chronicling the thriving hacking scene
14:12 not whether - at launch you could only use the touchscreen
I hope this channel blows up. This is top-notch content.
This video deserves more views and like. I watched the whole thing and the ending hit hard 😢 I feel lucky to have discovered this fantastic handheld and the Vita community continues to thrive. Vita means life. Vita forever!!!
I love my Vita, it’s my 3rd favorite portable device ever, behind the PSP and Steam Deck.
This was awesome. I’m a late adopter, but also a late adopter to JRPGs. I have enjoyed discovering new genres and playing indies on the Vita.
The Vita is so damn good, it's such a shame people (and Sony) never opened their eyes to the possibilities. Once again, awesome video, Tark.
Damn dude you went crazy with the editing at the end. Really beautiful work
Oh my! I have been looking very much forward to this ever since Ircha hinted at it in her Podcast 😊🤘
I already thank you for this documentary, will return with a proper comment after completing the video!
Man, this makes me wanna cry. I got it for my 12th birthday when I got it and man I love it to this day with my life. Thank you for making this!
This is going to blow up, man. Seriously this rules
Heres hoping it can do some numbers haha. Vita love deserves to be heard.
Superb video, Tarks!
I really like the Vita. It's an awesome piece of tech with so many good games.
Absolutely fantastic. Incredibly high level content. Thank you for your efforts, sir. That was both informative and entertaining. Would reccomend.
Awesome video Tarks! Great choice of background musica too, long live the Vita! ❤
Some of my fondest memories playing on the Vita... Amazing video!
This was a great video on the vita! My first ps vita is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. So excited! 😊
Thanks for making this video. I'm loving my Vita still...had it from launch where I pre-ordered it. I finally modded my Vita and life goes on. :)
I like your video bro. I subscribed .. Love psvita and other handheld consoles ..
Great coverage Tarks! A great homage ot a fantastic gaming device! I love both my ps vita (oled and led) and it's obvious it could've been so much more...
Cheers!
Love this video! Great job!
Amazing documentary, it’s incredible man! Thank you for sharing your experience and your love for Psvita! I bought a psp Japanese version when it launched and I still have it and I’m actually playing the amazing port Cave Story! But I want to buy a Psvita because I see that the passion and respect for this console lives beyond Sony…
This documentary should be seen on a big streaming platform by everyone! If someone wants to understand how the Nintendo Switch appeared, you have to understand Psvita and Pstv legacy! ❤
Awesome docs, you trully shows what you've got here. And for Vita.. I wish the emulator progress in a great pace and it will surely live forever ...
GREAT video, brother!! I agree wholeheartedly with you. I love my PS5 and Switch but very often I go back to my vita. I’m actually playing Trails in the Sky SC on my Vita right now
Why has this video taken a year to appear in my feed!
Small correction for around 46:00 for the switch: The dock does not upscale or anything like that.
I still play mine. Armored Core
My Guy! Haven’t watched the video yet, but glad to see ya back.
I loved my Vita. I purchased the early bundle Best Buy had where you got the system a week or two early. The Vita was in my bag with the 3DS every time I left the house.
The Vita is great. Thanks for the work!
best handheld ever
