    Thank you for this video, bur oaks are such majestic trees and very good at providing food and habitat for wildlife, shade and beauty. I hope to grow them someday.

    Agree - would love to see a 1 year plus update on these if you noticed any difference between the container sizes in relation to the size of the trees now.

    Wow. I really like the video. Excited to see what's next. I found quite a few but oak acorns on a walk through a park and really collected just to show to my daughter something about nature, but this looks like a fun project for us to do. Thank you

      They are fun, I am posting anew video in the morning that explains how to best collect your acorns so you get good seeds to grow trees with.

    Hi. I'm in far north central TX and gathered some Burr Oak acorns yesterday. I will float test them, but do I need to freeze them to crack them, or just refrigerate until spring? Thanks!

    How about an update video on these? I’m curious which pots worked better.

    I was always unsure of how to bump them up. I used the trapped to do pot and pot. It was easy to save moisture and more forgiving than having them above ground

    What type of slow release fertilizer do you use, great narraration

    • @GrowNewPlants
      @GrowNewPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am using a HJ 14-7-12 slow release right now. The best you can use is the Osmocote 9 month slow release,,That is what I will be going to when I use up what I have. The osmocote is hard to find and is expensive though.

    I have a burr oak in a 3 gallon pot. It's from a sprouted acorn potted about 6 months ago. It's about the size of yours. When can it go in the ground? Best way to overwinter?

    • @GrowNewPlants
      @GrowNewPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can plant it as soon as the roots reach the edge of the pot that its in, if you can tilt the pot and pull it all out as one mass, it can be planted. Depending on where you live, to overwinter you just need to protect the roots from freezing, if you are in a cold area you could just mulch around the pot over winter or even bring into garage during really cold spells, don't forget to water in winter months too though.

    what kind of soil can i put in for keeping it indoor?

    • @SumerianRoses
      @SumerianRoses 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any potting soil should be fine. They might not do well indoor full-time since they grow really big. They might also require a winter cool down period to thrive.

    Where did you get that root trapper 2 from? Can that be used for the final transplant of a oak tree to your land?

    Great video! May ask a few questions?:
    Where did you get those containers? Do you have website link?
    I know you mentioned square is better, so is trying Amazon just fine?
    I have land in South Carolina, but I live in New York. Do you have any tips for me to nurse my acorns out of pots in NY until I can plant them to fend for themselves in SC?
    What is the best time of the year do this process prior to taking a trip down south to plant them?
    How should I pretreat my land to optimize growth for the trees?
    Thank you for your help.

    I’m using soil conditioner as my soil, would that work? It drains the water fast but keeps it moist.

    • @GrowNewPlants
      @GrowNewPlants  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't have rabbit problems, but the squirrels used to pull the whole seeding up and then eat the acorns. I actually fixed that this year with this grow table! th-cam.com/users/shortsHg5t6ggmPYo

    • @drewdevon2009

      @@GrowNewPlants oh yeah the squirrels attack them first in the spring, and after the acorn is too used up the squirrels finally leave them alone in mid summer, thats when the rabbits take over
