The part I think people often forget is that this is 24 hrs a day too, when you are getting overtaken and shipping that much water by a following sea in pitch darkness you get all my respect.
I just don’t think I want to be that wet that long. True sailors there.
from experience the camera in no way can express the magnitude of real weather like that.

Das Schiff wird von der See überrollt. Die Wellen steigen von hinten und auch seitlich ins Boot ein. Schon beängstigend, hoffentlich läuft das Wasser vom Boot ab und dringt nicht unter Deck ein. Aber die Dagmar hat es ja geschafft, die Zone zu durchqueren. Beeindruckende Aufnahmen. Das Schiff kämpft mit der See und geht als Sieger hervor. Eine gute Konstruktion und gute Seemannschaft machen es möglich. Danke Arved!

those scuppers are way too small...you broadsided that wave at 1:20 because of the free surface ballastwater on deck.Anywho as you posted the video you made it, congrats, awsome sailing!
That is crazy....that first wave is enough to rip the rudder off of 50% (If not more) of production sailboats.....much respect.

Crazy to think the Shackelton and crew sailed similar seas in a boat 1/5th the size of this boat. Amazing sailing no matter the ships size. I was ready to hurl 20 seconds in.
The James Caird was 22.6 feet long and was sailed from Elephant Island to S Georgia. From this vid, this ship seems to be 100 odd feet or longer.

Andrew Tubbiolo that was their lifesaver boat, and it only set off from Elephant island as to stay was certain death.

Armchair sailor here - would it be better if you had a little more sail up to make the boat go faster ?
It would assist the steering and reduce pooping and broaching by following waves.
Speed is important in conditions like that.
Im asking for my own benefit not being critical.
I know the wind is already strong but i tjink too much water is coming on deck.

No, in those following seas the biggest danger is broaching and of course shredding sails and damaging rigging, not to mention risk to crew. To a point you need sails up to keep control. This all looked ok to me, you get wet and in that weather you learn that the colour of adrenaline is brown, haha. With a competent crew and a seaworthy ship it's a thrill that you never forget.

Seems like a sturdy and well founded yacht but why have the dingy on the Davits with big following seas? Kudos to the crew for weathering the passage.
my great grandfather..able bodied seaman Frederick Marshall SAILED them 12 times...both ways..on the Cutty Sark...until he was 54
