    Oh also - apparently the 97 has Kevlar, and the x doesn’t - do you know what difference that makes to the playability or is it not noticeable? Weird that they did that

      Kevlar has an amazing feel; always loved ceramic or kelvar feel

      I might get better insight after a side by side and some research if I get around to it. The pro staffs are kind of hot right now but my heart is catching up on some rackets I want to release content on. Just a couple videos.
      Kevlar is probably more bulletproof? It's hard to tell, I think they can have similar properties if used as a layup fiber but they may not be using it like that. I'll look into it.

    Hello nice video, can you compare this racket with Wilson Blade 98 16x19 in terms of maniobrability and control?

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question but I couldn't say. I don't mess with the blades because the grommet system bothers me too much with these big and parallel drilled openings that cause a big crooked pattern across the stringbed. So I probably won't be messing with those anytime soon again. I did a video showing the problem I have with that racket if you wanted to see.

    What's your opinion on using this as an off day racket as I currently play with an underspec synthetic grip rf? I was either going to go with a stock 97 or the x.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't the new stock a similar swingweight but with less weight? Could swing pretty differently but I've yet to try it.
      So let me know first what you mean by standard. Last gen was lower SW.

      @@time410s I’m thinking about the current generation of the 97. Although I will admit I like the older paint job better

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe the X. I don't know what the current plays like and the idea of it having the same SW but less weight I kinda don't like but maybe it would be nearly the same if you put a leather base grip on it.
      The 100 was solid though. But I might take the 97 over it just because I would prefer to get a smaller headsize in this case.

  • @goldencalf5144

    I was sad when Fed switched to the 97. I knew Wilson would stop making the 90 which was my racquet at the time. I wish they'd reissue the PS 90, even as a limited edition. They could promote it as a Federer tribute.

    • @time410s

      @@time410s I actually got 2 of the re released 85s. It would be good if Wilson re issued some of their other classic frames. I'm thinking the old 6.1 95 and PS90. Head seems to be doing this with the Prestige Classic and Pro Tour. I think this would make more commercial sense than a zillion different variations of the modern Pro Staff V14 that no one wants.

    • @time410s

      I could see it later down the road like the 85.

  • @randrothify
    @randrothify ปีที่แล้ว

    The original Pro Staff was actually the 110 version not the 85. The 85 that everyone thinks of as the original came out shortly after. Though the 85 was of course the one that was played by Jimmie Connors, Chris Evert, Stefan Edberg, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, and Roger Federer amongst many others, the 110 was sold for many years and therefore must have had quite a following amongst the public. So it is not always the case that the Pro Staff has had exclusively smaller head sizes.

    Looks like you have Solinco Hyper G on it.
    I just got the racquet nd I first tried with those, but didn't love it. Switched to Tourna SIlver Tour and I like it much better. I had the V13 prostaff 97, and same thing with the Hyper-G. It is all personal, but I think ball pocketing and sweet spot are much better with other strings, on that line. WIth other racquets I enjoy th eHyper-G, but for some reason I can't click with them on the ProStaffs.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's what the demo came with. It's funny how some rackets just don't work with some strings. You think it wouldn't be that way but I swear it is. Like the Speed Pro just felt awful with my favorite string and I like that string so much, if the racket doesn't work with it, I will keep looking!
      But thankfully I had other reasons to keep looking anyway.

  • @Dasato123
    @Dasato123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Prostaff largehead (107) was actually released before the Midsize (85). Later generations only associate the name Prostaff with a midsize racket. It’s a shame, in the 80s it was common for rackets to be released in both a oversized and midsized versions with similar specs. Nowadays if a company makes a oversized version of a racket it’s made with Toy weight specs. What? Only Seniors and small Women and Kids want to use a oversized racket?

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk. I wonder how that happened. They must have figured it's not selling well because it's not being endorsed.

    • @Dasato123
      @Dasato123 ปีที่แล้ว

      as Players Spec oversized rackets have not existed for close to two decades (aside from the reintroduced POG) it means that a couple of generations of pros never had the option to try a oversized racket when they were juniors. No current pros endorse oversized rackets so less juniors are likely to try a oversized racket even if they were in tennis shops to demo (POG is a Tennis Warehouse exclusive so even demo is by mail order only). It’s turned into a self fulfilling cycle.
      Why does this matter. Aside from robbing tons of rec level players who might benefit from the use of a Oversize it’s also robbing a unknowable number of professionals from attaining a higher ranking. In the 80s-90s there were far more pros using a oversized racket than just the three that the current tennis public seems to remember. Aside from Agassi, Chang and Sabatini there were many other top 50 pros using a Oversize that nobody seems to remember, Eric Korita with his 140 mph serve appeared in ads for Prince. #6 Kent Carlsson was Nadal before Nadal. #4 Gene Mayer two hands on both sides. Mr. chip and charge Paul Annacone. 1987 Wimbledon Boris Becker slayer Peter Doohan. Monica Seles, Jay Berger, etc. Just as certain Pros benefited from using a Oversize racket 40 years ago a certain number today might have higher rankings today if the racket industry hadn’t turned the Oversized racket into strictly a “Player improvement” category. Plus the stigma against using a Oversized racket amongst rec players is apparently at all time high. In the few years that I have paid attention to TH-cam tennis I have seen only one younger male using a Oversized racket (POG) and one female (Pure Drive 110) during a online match. During the 80s it would not be uncommon to go to a public court and see half the players using oversized frames. Has players hand eye coordination improved over the years? No , judging from the miss hits and poor volleys.
      Think about it Federer went from using a 85 sq inch racket to a 97. That a 12 sq inch increase. To him the 97 must have felt like a oversized racket compared to his original 85 frame. Yet most rec players egos can’t fathom going from a 100 to a 107. You’ll hear that’s for beginners. And in a lot of cases it’s beginners saying this!? If it helps you hit the ball more cleanly more often and thus play better isn’t that all that matters?

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't disagree with you on the concept of it being a self-fulfilling cycle. I felt the same way about extended length and you can make the same kind of arguments.
      Why do you think the trend went in this direction in the first place? Was it the market that shifted things or did the shift come from the way manufacturers decided to push things? I honestly don't know but you are right that there were some stand out players using very oversized rackets.

  • @jorgetirado3201
    @jorgetirado3201 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your moment wondering what someone who knows why some are parallel drilled and some not would say - that was really funny! How do you think parallel drilling impacts performance? You said that’s a criteria of yours now, but curious as to why (I’m using the shift now which has that)

    • @dmc6315
      @dmc6315 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apparently some pros are using stock frames other than specifying radial vs parallel drilling of string holes. An example is Alexander Zverev with his Head Gravity Pros. I'm not sure what they "feel" the advantage is. ??

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      His doesn't have it? I think I was looking recently and the current model uses it for a decent portion of the frame. Sorry I just can't tell from the comment if you're implying he does or doesn't have it.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha, I actually just got a reps contact yesterday! I will ask after formulating a little bit more of a relationship. I don't wanna sound any alarms too soon 😅
      For me, just looking at it is enough to see it would greatly reduce stress on the grommets but also the frame. It's a leverage point against the frame, essentially. Yes, every hole essentially would be but the angle of that hole determines how much leverage it will have, as well as how much length against the surface it has. So, the more sharp the angle and further from the entry point, the more leverage. Whereas if parallel drilled, the entry point is parallel to the exit so the leverage would be much more similar and it's one dependent on the angle from which it's entering from it's last exit point, not all 3 points.
      I might have to draw it out sometime. I think it will be obvious if I do that.

    • @dmc6315
      @dmc6315 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@time410s No.... Zverev specified that his frames must have the old style radial drilling rather than parallel that the frame marketed to the public has. Seems like the discussion mentioned that he thought he had better control with that one.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  ปีที่แล้ว

      I gotcha. Yeah and maybe he does. I'm sure it affects the feel. Better or not I think that's up to the person using it. Many pros of course do use parallel drilling but he's and interesting case perhaps. I imagine wawrinka too since he uses an older Yonex model, right? And probably anyone endorsing the blade. But the babolat stuff, no. Modern Yonex, no.

      @@time410s I love the feel of the 85 (at least my tennis warehouse reissue version) but I found it to actually lack a bit in the plow through department so I added lead. The 88 of course had a slightly larger sweet spot but I like it because it’s already at the weight and balance I prefer. One of the few racquets that I just leave completely stock. And it never gave me arm trouble like the RF97.
