Heat can be converted into electricity using a Stirling engine/convertor. That may be a good accessory for these tubes.

What keeps them from freezing and breaking?

In North American Climates we use heat transfer tubes or called heat pipes, regarding breaking they withstand 1" hail. Even with all our 1.8 meter tubes we don't have breakage. Nass Team

Thank your for the reply. I do not know how that works and i was afraid the tubes might happen to freeze but i guess these heat transfer tubes work somehow to keep the main tubes from freezing? What heats the transfer tubes?

The vacuum between the glass does not allow the cold to freeze anything but the outer glass and since there's nothing touching the inside of the outer tube it won't break. But the inner tube that holds the water gets the solar heat that passes through the outer tube on to the dark inner tube. And dark like black in the sun makes heat. So the inner tube can get really hot but if you grab the outer tube you won't feel any heat. With no air in the middle there is vary little molecules to bounce off each other to transfer energy "heat" from either tube.

Thanks, No heat or cold through vacuum, so if i have water in a vacuum of deep cold space then it will not freeze. I was concerned only about the water inside the pipe freezing and breaking the pipe if on very cold dark days with no sun so this is good that it will not freeze. So, how much did you say this cost?

I've seen little short pipes like these for 6 to 7 hundred and the longer pipes at 2 thousand and up. And if you want to save money like I'm trying to do by making one myself. There's a lot to make sure you don't have one of those " oh bummer" moments. Mostly I've seen 6 to twelve pipes that lead up to the insulated holding tank. the holding tank has a copper coil for the heat transfer to keep the fresh water well away from not fresh water. I've learned the bigger the holding tank you can get plus greatly insulated the more you will be pleased.
