  • Oddworld Lore: Paramites Of Paramonia is a video by pupbenny about Paramites of Paramonia.
    Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

    The Paramites have always been one of my favourite things from Oddworld. They're so iconic and I really think the way the Paramite gameplay works genuinely makes them one of the most fascinating and alive elements in the gameplay of the Oddworld games.

    I think Sligs and Paramites may share a common ancestor: both have digit like structures covering their mouth, they have strong forelimbs for locomotion and a very similar body plan in general, they are social, vocal, and intelligent in their own way.

    Paramites are the only enemy in the series that won't attack the player immediately when spotted, and I don't think it's part of their predatory methods, as much as it is an interesting theory.
    Think about it: Abe, a stranger, entered their home uninvited, so what they do is checking if he's a friend or a foe from a safe distance. If he's getting too close they feel threatened and so they attack. That's a very natural behavior, and it makes them one of my favorite oddworld species.

    I love these tricksy gits. They really offer a very fun game of cat and mouse sometimes.
    My most fond memory is in the temple of Paramonia where there's a long stretch of corridor with a few pressure pad traps dropping boulders and some tight spaces that need you to crawl or roll under. I remember it so fondly because I wasn't taking the Paramite so seriously and was calling it "good boy", sort of playing with it and even commenting on it when stepping over the traps but the traps not hitting either of us. I found it really endearing to be honest. But then I let my guard completely down and the tricky bugger managed to set off a trap which got me in a surprising moment.
    I paused and blinked before bursting out laughing at how the Paramite completely outplayed me, and from that moment onwards I learned to add a dose of respect to my admiration. Never underestimate a Paramite

  • @davidarri9115
    @davidarri9115 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    I think the Paramites are one of the best creatures in Oddworld, they are intelligent, not like scrabs. You said an interesting thing about the food of the paramites, if you notice well, only in Paramonia there are those sacks of meat that dangle, this suggests that they are intelligent enough to know how to get food in small pieces and then put it in safety. The fact that when a paramita and lonely does not attack you immediately, in my opinion, is not due to the fact that he does not want to hurt you, but it is that he prefers to escape by being alone. You said that the paramites, unlike the scrabs, prefer old meat to fresh meat, perhaps this is why they eat very small pieces of meat, in fact they need less meat to satiate themselves being smaller than scrabs and consequently with one smaller stomach. I find it great that paramites, being smarter than scrabs, also have a more extended gamespeak in AE lol. Literally sligs need to lure them into a trap to catch them as we see in NnT, unlike scrabs that run away to the sound of progliectiles. I love the fact that even before putting their backs to the wall they warn you to step back so as not to kill yourself right away. They are the exact opposite of scrabs as they like to attack in groups rather than kill each other. I found it odd that the Paramites were in the Mudomo vals that are not in Paramonia, I just think the native Mudomos brought them from Paramonia to the necrum to protect their tribes. In a video Lorne said the paramites don't have a queen, so I guess they breed with eggs, just like real spiders. FUN FACT: you probably already know since I said it in your LiveStream of MO, but the Oddworld species are classified by name and race: paraMITE, bolaMITE, they are both spiders, mudoKONS, glukKONS, (remember that lived together before the schism). I stop writing because my fingers hurt. Beautiful video! I was waiting for you to make a video about a "NOBLE" creature like the Paramites :DD

    Never seen anyone talk about the Slig Mama, Would be Cool to give it a next Video, ya? ^^
    It really amazes me that the Oddworld actually gave the Sligs their official tank, as i remember them only from a fanart but it still doesnt fit right.
    But in the Oddworld soulstorm, its a pure magnificence of Industrial Engineering, A Walk Ordnance that can fire multiple missile in one barrel. Most certainly used for "Crowd Control" for Defense or Demolishing areas that are impossible to get pass like obstacles or dens of Oddworld Faunas that would only lead to massacre of Sligs. With it being a Walker than a Tank tells me that it was pretty much meant for Stationary defense rather than armored assault to stabilized its recoils and also travel in rough terrains with it huge legs, compare to Tanks that were short in height and move with tracks
    Its pretty amazing too with the final level, they really gave me the Wolfenstein boss fight vibes and had me like "Holy Crap, theres 2 of them! How are we suppose to deal with that?!". Shows that the Glukkons and Sligs atleast giving all they have got before they finally call it a quit and turn on to their bitter mouthy Superiors.

    But the real question is... what do Paramite Pies taste like?

    Paramites are really interesting... hey i have a question dunno if this will be buried in comments but, i've always wondered what if abe got a Third game back in the old days like lets say 1999, what do you think it would be about? maybeee he would be zapped with a new tattoo and meet big face again?? xD

      Ha I have no clue, it would be pretty interesting though. I guess like an even bigger Exoddus maybe. Perhaps with more creatures? I'm not sure but it's interesting to think about. xD

      Is sliggers a term used to describe the sligs that cannot afford pants nor wings?

    • @reecemeadows4754
      @reecemeadows4754 ปีที่แล้ว

      No but it seems like they should be from the fact they have poor legs and slogs basically naturally have no legs and parasites have no eyesight and sligs have poor eye sight and the face has a very strong resemblance maybe they have a common ancestor or same family like the octillians

      As far as we know they’re not related

    Man I just wanna say I only played oddworld because of your vids that randomly got recommended to me. Tried out odysseys and while it had a great atmosphere the gameplay is actually kinnda meh lol. I did like the creatures though.

      Ha thank you very much, that's really nice to hear! :) Yeah, odyssey isn't my favourite to play tbh. the gameplay kind of drags sometimes, but it looks really good for the time and the music is really good too I think. :)

    scrabania/paramonia OR mudanchee/mudomo?

    • @pupbenny
      @pupbenny  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally prefer mudanchee/mudomo and, specifically, the Mudomo Vaults are one of favourite locations in the games for some reason. What about you? I actually want to do a poll about this soon lol.

    Ok their meat and skin are used, I don’t doubt their webs are also exploited in some form or another
