    Just a heads up: You can actually display DSR-50 without her base just fine! I just keep a microfiber cloth underneath her to avoid potential damage but yeah the base isn't 100% necessary.

    I think that if the figure is beautiful and makes you happy when you look at it then it doesn't matter if you "know" the character well or not. They are a form of art, after all.

    A new video from daijoububu? Yes! 🎉
    I also have the same issue with being a completionist. I lost count the number of times I picked up something just to complete a set. It really is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I rarely have trouble finding something to buy. On the other, I tend to end up purchasing figures of characters I strongly dislike. xD

    I actually like watching "unhaul" videos. I mean yeah, it's not fun regretting the figures you picked up, but it's just part of the collecting experience. And idk, I like hearing other collector's thoughts/experiences on that. I'm probably in the minority here though because there are a LOT of figures I have regretted buying. 😂 Too much of an impulse buyer. As for which one I regret the most... I can't say for sure, but the Plentiful Apple Harvest Holo figure comes to mind. Just because I knew I wasn't keen on it from the promo pics but convinced myself that maybe I would like it better in person (spoiler alert: I did not). And it was not fun trying to sell it, lol.

    I regret pre-ordering every Miku and then sitting on their delays for years while seeing so many other figures I liked even more from series I was more into overall. Thankfully I ended up canceling quite a few of them and only keeping the ones I "really" liked for the price.
    I am so weak for Myethos releases, and anything in a damn China dress so I have a lot of things in my collection that I don't even know/care about the source material 😅

    14:23 The Luo Tianyi is still one of the most beautiful figures I've ever seen! 😍I'd never give her away if she was mine. I actually don't care if I don't know the character as long as the figure is beautiful. That doesn't mean that I am not partial to figures of my favorite characters though. xD

    I really regretted buying the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Celestia figure from MLP. I bought it because it was on sale and I thought she had a pretty design...but I haven't been into MLP since I was like 7 - before Celestia even existed! Luckily I was able to sell her and make back most of my money. But yeah, every time I looked at her I just felt bad haha.

    Myethos is pronounced My Eethos (long E, o is pronounced like the o in sock). Ethos means "The disposition, character, or fundamental values peculiar to a specific person, people, culture, or movement." So, I think they were trying to give their brand name a deeper meaning or something.

    Some figures I have slight regrets only because they dropped in price significantly after release, so I felt I could’ve saved a good chunk of money on them. That said, they are from my favorite series (Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy), so me loving the characters and source material does help ease the pain haha 😆
    Maybe biggest regret is GSC’s Asuna Goddess figure. As beautiful as she is, she also dropped quite significantly in price and I don’t have that big of an attachment to her. Still a gorgeous figure tho!

    • @htsunmiku
      @htsunmiku ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On a side note...I noticed this happening more now? Maybe it's because I got into figures around a bad time (2019) but before I would be worried about never being able to buy a figure because of it being impossible to find a few months after release.
      But it feels like currently it's easier and the price may even go down? So now you have at least a year window to pick up a figure.

    • @ViktorErikFade
      @ViktorErikFade ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I know anything about a Nintendo product give it a few years and those fire emblem ones will probably sky rocket once they decide to stop producing them ever again like they do with half their stuff.
      The final fantasy ones though r.i.p
      It hurts buying something at "new price" then it dropping , the price probably dropped after people referred buying the whole sets of things maybe and sold off their extra characters they didn't want lol
      That's my guess.

    I'm regretting buying Shiro Summer ver. from "No Game No Life"... that bent spine, oof. Where was I looking?
    I also do not like wedding dresses figures, but I have to say that if Azur Lane's New Jersey turns out well I will try to hunt for her in the aftermarket, she's genuinely the first wedding dress figure I found appealing and very much desirable.
    I also have the Lilly Relium you showed in the video and I love her 😆 And I did not like Laura so I'm okay with not having a complete set 😄

    I started keeping a spreadsheet in mid 2021 to keep track of what I purchased, how much spent etc. In the past two years I've purchased 62 figures, sold 17 of them when I decided I didn't like them as much as I thought I would and currently have three others listed on Ebay. I end up not liking every figure I purchase. The manufacturers make the prototype look so good, it's a disappointment when the finished product doesn't live up to the hype. Seeing you unbox your Alter Asuna has made me reconsider selling mine. She's so much cuter out of the box! I guess I'll keep her to go with my Alter Kirito which I had already decided to keep, lol. And the figure I most regret buying in the past two years was the Yae Sakura Dream Raiment figure. I seriously don't know what I was thinking. I don't like wedding figures, but her face was so cute. Anyway, I've since sold her and got back what I spent plus twenty dollars so I'm happy. I've also slowed down on my figure purchasing. I've gotten way more in tune with what kind of figures I really, really like and almost as important, I've put an end to the impulse buying.

    I took a long break from watching videos during the endless "EMS not available" period. But I noticed I still did occasional checks on Amiami for whatever cool new stuff appeared. (And were also looking for a figure I really wanted, which I haven't seen yet and worry I'm missing it on some exclusive site). And I can kind of relate to the regrets that comes later in the collecting phase.
    Here is a list of regrets:
    1. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - Shirai Kuroko - B-style - 1/4 - Bunny ver. (FREEing). Reason being her head is huge and looks bad, and recently they have made a better figure. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun T - Shirai Kuroko - B-style - 1/4 - Bunny Ver., 2nd (FREEing). Ironically same company, same name, but now much better looking.
    2. Ikki Tousen - Kan'u Unchou, couldn't find specific figure. Bought it because it was a tan-lines figure, but when I got her and opened her I noticed they got the skin colors horribly wrong and she looks like sickly-gray rather than tan.
    3. 2 figures of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - Cthugha. Not sure what it is, but I love the character design, the poses are not boring, but somehow they aren't quite what I wanted anyway. I'd probably buy a third one if I run into it, despite regretting both the previous ones. It is just hard to explain why I'm not satisfied with them, despite loving the design.
    4. One Piece - Boa Hancock - Glitter & Glamours - Special ver. (Banpresto). Love the thorn clothes concept, but this figure was really bland and boring despite it.
    5. Hololive - Nousagi - Usada Pekora - Figma (#529) (Max Factory). Love Pekora, but I'm not a Figma collector and would rather have a real scale figure.
    There is also the general "too much" regrets I feel sometimes. Like when i look at the pile of unopened boxes and see "Skimpy outfit vampire, skimpy outfit vampire, skimpy outfit vampire, skimpy outfit vampire". Tend to start wondering why I need so many. Can't say the same about my tan-lines figures though, which I have like 20 opened and like 10 unopened of and would still buy any figures I find.
    There is also a single regret regarding what I didn't buy. Which was the super expensive Azur Lane - New Jersey - B-style - 1/4 - Living Stepping (FREEing, Union Creative International Ltd).
    Been planning about selling some unwanted figures sometime, but worry about needing to pack stuff down and all. Just being lazy.

    VTubers are streamers that use an animated avatar, and VSingers are a subset of that who focus on, well, singing. Arguably the most famous group of VTubers are Hololive; I understand their first concert in the United States sold out within minutes. The dedicated VSingers of Hololive are IRys and AzKi, though this distinction isn't immediately apparent.
    Luo TianYi is apparently a Vocoloid that's popular in China. Unlike Hatsune Miku who arguably has some international fame, Luo TianYi is really only popular in China. In fact, this is the first time I've heard of her.
    As far as figures that I've regretted buying, I think that goes to some gachapon Samurai Shodown/Samurai Spirits figures that I went out of my way to buy. For figures that cost less than $5 USD each, they're surprisingly good; that said, they're still $5 figures. Among other problems, they don't stand up correctly and are otherwise prone to leaning over time, assuming that they stood upright in the first place!

  • @AaronMetallion
    @AaronMetallion ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a sort of meditative buyer, it started out with being frugal / unable to afford it, to now just being second nature. I'll add something to cart, look at reviews, videos, and let it sit in the cart... I'll spent a substantial amount of time thinking if I'll still love it in 5 years. I'll also only buy figures from shows / series I've loved for a long time (NieR, Made in Abyss, FMA), rather than what I'm currently hyped about. For example I own 0 attack on titan figures, even though I enjoy it now, I don't know if I'll love the rest of the anime or how it ends... I mostly collect nendoroids too, because they're cute and work well on the same shelf. So it's not as difficult planning themes or buying something that looks out of place on a shelf. The only figure I regret, is I got a miku noodle stopper, thinking it'll look good in my PC, sitting on my GPU... but it looked kinda lame and didn't match the RGB or internals. It was mad kawaii for a black PC. Facebook marketplace is pretty great to sell figures though. I'm doing my best to be minimalist and only hold onto things I really love, and declutter / get rid of the rest, with all things - my clothes, my belongings. Like if you wear a tshirt that you only like 5/10, you'll feel like a 5/10... wear something that you think is 10/10, and you'll feel 10/10. I loved the candid video though, and its always nice listening to someone have the same hobby. :))

    Asuna is super pretty and I don't even SAO. Alter knocking it out of the park every time tbh.
    My biggest regret was Preordering the 1/7 Tsukioka Kogane Face of Treasure GSC figure before I knew that most idol figures tend to tank. I really like the figure itself, I would have liked it a lot more for 17,000JPY less like she's going for now 🫠 She's a steal at her current price though!
    A figure I outright regretted buying though was the 1/7 Aizawa Azusa 1/7 from Medicos Entertainment. I loved the concept of her and she wasn't *bad*, but she was surprisingly heavy, I didn't love her quality in person, from most angles the hat looked less like a witch hat (which was why I was getting her) and more like a blobby cowboy hat, and she was difficult to display on mid-to-high shelves because her skirt is sculpted in a way that gives a pretty unavoidable panty-shot, which wasn't the vibe I wanted from the figure at all.

    I have to say my orders/preorders of all 4 girls from Rent-a GF prolly regrettable purchases - I still haven't unboxed Chizuru and Sumi, while Ruka had been downgraded to surface mail (Mami's not out yet). I also think that with the current trend where 1. figures are pricier than usual 2. there is now a surge of preowned figures which up to now were then "rare"/brail (you have a better chance to buy the OG Ryuko Matoi bunny on AmiAmi preowned these days, for example) 3. figures can be bought on release without preordering - we can reduce the risk of blindly preordering just because.

    I didn't know the Yae Sakura Wedding figure needed support poles. That really sucks cause I wanted this figure, but since they edited out the support poles it feels misleading and kinda sucky. 😓The figure I regret buying is the Nijisanji Kuzuha Kotobukiya figure. I am a big Kuzuha fan and he is my favorite Vtuber, but the drop in quality on his figure is way too noticeable. He legit looks like a bootleg compared to the prototype display photos. I probably would've still bought him if I saw the actual pictures first but then I wouldn't feel so ripped off. 😡

    Even your "rejects" are quite excellent. My regrets are usually more tied to the price declines many of them (especially POs) have experienced. The Fate 15th Celebration set comes to mind in that regard, amongst many others.

    The one figure I regret buying so badly was my first ever figure that I paid OVER $300 for.
    It was my first figure I ever bought so I had no idea there were dedicated stores for figures so I went straight to eBay..already off to a bad start. found ONE listing and got it. First seeing the price I just assumed all figures are that expensive because I would always hear how figure collectors were broke and how expensive it gets soooo I thought that made it legit... 😅
    It was the Ichinose Kotomi 1/8 (Kotobukiya) second hand. My "waifu" at the time so I REALLY wanted her buut I defiantly got scammed.
    Original price was $40 and I've recently seen it on AmiAmi for $90. I will never be able to sell it for how much I paid for so I still have it years later in storage. ❤❤❤

    Hands down my figure regret was the Swan Girl by Wave. I was so hyped to have a ballerina 🩰 but due to her pose I can’t fully enjoy her, to see her face I hardly see her dress and to see her dress I hardly see her face. I also thought her dress would be more light pink but it is more transparent which isn’t bad just not what I was looking for. But ya it’s just her pose is epic but I can’t find a right angle that I like to display her in.

    I preordered that arknights alter figure. I do play arknights a lot so I can justify the buy (kinda). But I know she’s going to bin with how expensive shipping is probably going to be on top of her price 😭
    I thankfully don’t regret most of the figures I’ve bought for rn. I usually buy based on aesthetics, and very picky, so even if I love a character if I don’t like the figure I talk myself out of spending money. I also am not a completionist so if I only like one figure in a series I only buy that one.

    this is a situation i literally fear to be in as a collector. if i bought figures that i thought looked good then I’d have no space to put them cuz there’s so many and to avoid wanting to sell my figures i just stick to shows that i really like and characters i have an attachment to. any figure i buy i make sure i buy to keep and not to sell so that im not buying and then regretting it later 😩 and if i run out of space I’ll just make more space somehow cuz i can’t see myself selling anything i have in my collection 😭

    The only figures I regret are some of my prize figures. Being a collector that prefers to collect mostly male characters it's hard because most of them dont get scale figures but banpresto makes a ton of them as prize figures, but their quality has gone down a lot since the pandemic. Also regret a few Sega Miku prize figures I bought, their quality is just always crap but they get such cute designs 😢
    Also awww I love that Luo Tianyi figure, I would keep that one. I didnt know her either but her colors and dress are so delicate and feminine and pretty, and I love figures with a nice base/background that dont take up a lot of space. I remember I got her for like $100 on AmiAmi at release. She's one of my favorite figures in my collection. ❤

    It's funny because I've been collecting for almost a year now and I buy figures that I like the look of, and don't even know the source material until afterwards. I have Myethos figures based on that Honor of Kings games and bought them because I just think they're stunning. Also, I have the one you are keeping in online carts waiting for it to go down because I got the other two very cheap 😅.
    PS as of right now I don't have figures I regret however have 1 or 2 that don't mean as much because I added them to figure bundles to get better pricing when making deals on Kijiji. Who else has ever said "Well if I take 4, what could you do on pricing?" 🙋🏼‍♀️

    As a collector of various types of figures but being picky about what I get, honestly bases are typically the reason I regret buying a figure. Some figures (especially prize figures) have obnoxiously big bases. Its to the point I may try starting to customize my own bases for prize figures for the sake of them being smaller.
    Only other figure I regret is actually my husband's that has a major leaning issue. ;-;

    I would say my only figure regret was 1/4 Bakugo from BHNA. My one and only 1/4 and he just looked so incongruent with my 1/7 collection. I ended up picking up the Kotobukiya V2 Bakugo thats a 1/7 and has a dynamic base and that fits much better. I've been trying to sell 1/4 but they are hard to sell because the shipping is so high U-U. I agree with your the video though, its really easy to buy pretty things and find you are a little disappointed in yourself. But it most definitely happens to everyone!

    I think the figure I regret picking up most is the Aniplex 1/7 Ereshkigal because I was a little newer to collecting, didn't know about a lot of her QC problems with the lance, and while she's beautiful, she's been more of a hindrance than anything else. She can't hold the lance at all because it leans too much, and the support pole for her is terrible. Also my collection doesn't have a ton of Fate figures to begin with. I thought I'd end up ordering way more but turns out my collection took another direction -shrug-

    My figure regret... I was super quick to preorder the bareleg Zero Two bunny, I had always wanted the red OG version with the fishnets but her aftermarket is waaay too wild. It's been almost 18 months now and she's still sitting unopened in my room... not only have I run out of space for her, but I thought I would like her new white bunnysuit but from every photo I've seen online it makes her look ungodly pasty white. I've seen some people say she gives raw chicken and I can't unsee it 😭 The paintjob on her hair is super flat on the rerelease too. All around just a disappointing final product. Icing on the cake is I think she was over-purchased because she severely binned and even in unopened condition I don't think I'll make the money back 💔

    My biggest regrets are the prize figs I ended up buying at the very start, as well as the Wonderful Works Yui Yuigahama Rocker Ver. 1/7. Love the figure, but she has never really fit my collection, and she's not high demand, so it's very tough selling her and I'm praying I can sell her with my Kotobukiya SNAFU figs. lol I also regret getting the Tsukuyo Megahouse fig from Gintama, but only because she was pricey and her quality is definitely not comparable to the price I paid. Still love the character though, so I'll keep her around. lol

    Haven't made a purchase that i regret it until now, but of course, that's because i'm just arriving to this hobby. I'm barely making my first purchases and waiting for them to arrive.
    For now i'm giving priority to the characters i like the most, that are from Fate/Kaleid. I understand about those impulsive purchases. The only reason i haven't made them so far, is because i've been short of money. But currently i'm beginning to earn some money, so let's see if that happens to me. I don't know. My house is short in space, and i'm already struggling to find out where i'm going to store so many boxes 😅 But i want a lot of Fate/Kaleid figures so badly!!

    Figures are a totally different artistic medium than anime, video games, movies, etc. It doesn't matter at all if you know the character or source material. We appreciate figures because of the artistry and beauty that went into the sculpting, color production, etc. I love Cowboy Bebop but I don't have any figures from it because I don't find the characters that visually appealing. On the other hand, I don't play Azur Lane but I have several Azur Lane figures because they're gorgeous. For Cowboy Bebop, I have the complete series on blu-ray and that's good enough for me because I love the story. I don't play mobile games, but I buy their figures because I love the character designs. Simple as that. Don't overthink it! If you find a figure to be beautiful and visually appealing, that's all that matters! Remember, anime is for watching, video games are for playing, and figures are for displaying and admiring. They don't have to overlap.

  • @stagewrong6492

    For figures I regret, I regret literally every Vocaloid Nendoroid I've bought. I like Vocaloid music, but I wouldn't say I'm really in the fandom. I only collect figures from a select few series, and nearly every time I've bought a figure outside of that series other than maybe 6 instances (all of which were figures from series I probably would collect if they had more figures and/or more accessible figures), I've regretted it and sold it. I've had a hell of a time selling the Vocaloid Nendoroids though, and honestly just want them gone and want to get my money back to buy something I actually enjoy...
    I do kind of regret buying some prize/lower price figures in my collection (Banpresto Zenitsu, Pop Up Parade Giyuu, Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and one of my Ichiban Kuji Giyuus)- Demon Slayer is the main focus of my collection but the Banpresto figure is just low quality, the Pop Up Parades are mediocre quality with annoying bases, and the Ichibansho Giyuu has the most massive base that's shaped like a triangle, so it's nearly impossible to fit him anywhere despite the fact that I like the figure itself. He can't even be removed from the base either, so it's not like I can make a smaller base for him, which I'd be willing to do because otherwise I genuinely like the figure! The Banpresto Zenitsu I'm casually selling without much urgency, but the others I haven't bothered to because I like them enough and other than their annoying bases, they match with the rest of my collection.

    My biggest regret so far is fairly recent; it was the 1/2.5 Scale Kurumi by KDcolle, reason being is that I felt like I had bought a giant prize figure.
