Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) i.e. Thermocol can dissolve in Petrol , but never try this indoors, always have good ventilation and stay away from sparks or fire , its a highly inflammable mixture..

As some people mentioned, Acetone+table tennis ball =paste is used as a vacuum tight glue.
I'd recommend a two component Epoxy mixture such as Araldite in India.
Emerson Cuming company is selling a variety of such epoxies some.of them are clear colourless like hassan after curing. Some of them are biocompatible (meaning could be used in food /drinking water safe environment such as a water tank leak repair.
