    Great topic, Norrine!
I have two things to add. One from experience and one from a combo of experience and something I recently learned and tried.
The first tip is for wood glue. Less is more. I run a bead along each piece to be glued together, then spread with my finger over each piece before placing both pieces together making sure any excess on the edge is removed with a damp cloth. And yes, you are very correct, you need to clamp. If you don't have a clamp, but have a caulking gun, you can use it as a clamp. Make sure to protect the wood with either a piece of felt, foam, or cardboard. If there's a chance these pieces might come in contact with the glue, wrap them in plastic wrap or wax paper.
Did you know you can mix baking soda with super glue to make small repairs on plastic? Make sure it's the runny kind as the gel won't mix well enough for a solid repair.
Epoxy glues scare me. Too toxic.
My first glue gun was a Craftsman bought at Sears in their tool department. A place I dearly miss since the closings. 😭

OH MY GOSH!! I'd heard about the crazy glue and baking soda!!!! I will have to feature that in another video! Thanks for the info on the wood glue - and how genius to use a caulk gun in place of a clamp!

@@TheCraftyOrganizer Super glues actually solidify many things. A couple young scientific TH-camrs tried various strengths of the glue with baking soda, graphite, and cinnamon.
I'm thinking of being coached to get me busy at writing a blog and making some videos. Kind of a kick in the behind and help me manage time better.

This was the best video I have ever seen which focuses on glues types. I can’t thank you enough, as a sculptor I use a multitude of materials and the correct glue is key to mend an art piece. I’ve used the Liquid Nails for 35 year for mounting ceramic works to wood. My professor recommended back in the day said LN was used to glue the round raised reflectors on roads & you never saw them lifted off the asphalt. Excellent information thank you a hundred times.

  • @ArtyAntics

I only use 4 of the glues you mentioned, my fave glue to use instead of super glue is glossy accents, my fave fabric glue (and it is washable & vegan & works on multiple surfaces) is FabriTac, my favourite wet glue for crafts is multi matte medium as it dries clear and you can’t see overspill. Can’t live without those.

I'm amazed at how many glues I still need to learn about! Who knew??? Thanks for vegan option!

Great video. The first glue I used besides Elmer's in school was Ailene's tacky glue in the 1970's. A lady ran classes in her house doing ceramics and making silk flowers. We used the glue making the flowers. That was a pretty popular craft back then in the olden days. lol

Another TH-camr recommended Quick Grip contact cement all-purpose permanent adhesive from Beacon over the E6000. I think she said it had less fumes and dried faster. When I finish my E6000, I will give it a try (but that’ll probably take a couple of years). 😆

Dawn Little I have zero luck with glue sticks. UHU glue sticks are absolutely useless. I tried putting it on thickly but that made no difference. I’m using it on paper products only. I came back in a week and the pages tacked down with UHU all came loose. I had to glue everything down with Art Glitter Glue.(it always holds)

You should know that your craftroom is like absolutely one of my very top favorites! 🥰
    #1 • The Color
#2 • That is not an "IKEA" (not one in Arkansas) closest one is in Memphis. And, even though their shelves are freaking awesome looking, still too pricey right now with my budget.
#3 • That you put decorative backing on your shelves.
    #4 • Its just AWESOME!!
I have looked through your videos and have not seen how you made it the same color scheme. 🤔 I'm very interested and would love to watch 1 or more videos of the making of your craftroom.
Could you perhaps send me in the right direction? 📍👉

Very informative--thank you! I've bought & tried many different types of glues, and even if I like them, they dry out or glue themselves closed after one use, no matter how careful I am.
The one I keep coming back to & tend to use the most (for pretty much everything) is E6000. Goes on clear, dries pretty quickly, very strong, & holds forever....and you can use the entire tube!
    Love that stuff.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I do too! And I've had glues dry out too.... it's a bit frustrating. I use paper clips in my liquid (crazy/super) glues... that helps. And I make sure I store them tip up. But even those two methods sometimes don't save them. LOL

    So much information!!
I have a glue gun that I've only used a couple times because I find it cumbersome...plug in, wait for it to heat, squeeze trigger to get required amount of glue...oops! Too much!🙄
    Burn fingers. Ouch!
Cord knocks over something on my craft table.
Gluey stringy stuff hanging off project.
It's almost like an old "I Love Lucy" episode!😄
I know I just need to take time to practice with it.
But I hadn't heard about it not being good for gluing glass. In fact, I see crafters gluing plates to pedestals etc frequently.
Good to know that it's not the best choice for that.👍🏻

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good morning Norrine. I so appreciate this video. I am just a novice on Mosaics and I am having issues with types of adhesives used with different types of mediums used. Most TH-cam channels are U. S. based so I get confused on what types I can use use. I believe Weldbond is equivalent to your E6000 glue. I prefer tube type bottles as opposed to using silicone type tubes which usually require a gun to hold these large tubes. I find it awkward to use most times. I will be checking out the website you provided as this may help me more clearly. Thanks so much as always. Have a Blessed week sunshine. 🙏💜🇨🇦

On the C-A glues (super glues) it WILL bond wood! My ex used to use it to assemble balsa wood model aircraft, which he flew via radio control. If the plane happened to crash, it would break in various places EXCEPT at the glue joints! It was than strong of a bond. Even better than wood glue in that application.
Contact cement is great when you absolutely need a strong and permanent bond. However, it is very tricky to work with, and you get only one shot at it. Once the glued surfaces come into contact with each other, that's it! They aren't coming apart again. So IMO, it's not good for large areas. For instance, I recently used it to glue a thin cork backing onto my cat coasters. Measure the area, or dry fit first, and make register marks so you know where to spread the glue. (You must apply to both surfaces...and wait about 15 minutes for it to reach proper tackiness.)

Sorry - not laughing.... just nodding in agreement with the heat wave we JUST had here! My labels in my garage fell off, because it was so hot!

I want to add that I bought E6000 recently, because I’ve heard so much about it.
Now I see that I should use it in a well ventilated room. I also appreciate knowing the difference between that and super glue.

It's strong - both in adhesion AND in aroma! LOL Are you crafting with it?

I have problems with Command hooks. They either fall off within a few days or stick so well that even the release strip just breaks and the thing is stuck forever. Any suggestions? I follow the directions for cleaning the area before applying and then waiting before hanging anything.

This will sound crazy... but cut a strip of contact paper to your wall first. It will give a smoother surface for the command strip to adhere to AND protect your wall.

Great tutorial! My favorite white glue is Barely Glue, like Art Glitter Glue it has a metal fine tip that spreads a thinner head of glue. It last forever and doesn't buckle the project. My question is I love Modpoge but it stays sticky after is dries. I've tried powders afterwards to no avail. Any suggestions?🐝🐞🦋😘🥰🤗

Here's what I found.... : "Dry" is not "cured," however; while it will only take an hour or so (again, depending on humidity) for each coat to dry, you need to leave the project alone for roughly a month to become fully cured and hardened. Once fully cured, the Mod Podge will be a durable coating resistant to damage, but during the cure time, it will remain soft and susceptible to damage, including shifting and peeling."
Lala Gamma - I had no idea!!!!!! Thanks for bringing this up!

You love E6000, I hate it. I’ve never successfully used it yet. I glued small dichroic glass cabochons to an earring back, waited 24 hours and it fell off. Cleaned everything off very well and tried again. That time I left it about a week, same results. Have tried it a time or two on other things it was supposed to work on and again crappy results. It stinks so bad and doesn’t work well so I don’t waste my money on it. I have a Gorilla glue superglue that works great. And, it doesn’t dry out before I can use it again as the tiny tubes of superglue in other brands have done. I’m pretty much sold on anything Gorilla brand. I swear I think you could duct tape a car to a wall with their brand of duct tape and it would stay. Thanks for the glue lesson and how to find the site.

It's strange how glue will just 'repel' some things!!!! I think it's why I started playing with different types in the first place.... that was my experience with super glues! Glad the Gorilla brands are working for you.... and yes. I think their duct tape is incredible!

I have watched your videos for a long time and I appreciate the time and energy you put into each one. As far as all the glues out there to choose from; I absolutely love the glue dots!. After a long hiatus from my crafts; I am enjoying my scrapbooking again. Both my husband and I are working on an embroidery business. So I'm keeping busy, loving what I do, and now being retired. So I can watch more of your videos in my room.
