Malaysia is a Food Heaven, each state have their own specialty for Malay Food. Not to forget variety mix of food taste from Asean and European That you can found easily in Malaysia.
Ikan kembong is mackerel .. and kembong has the same meaning as in Indonesia .. bloated .. ikan tenggiri is a type of tuna .. the difference between the curry in kedah and other states is that it has less or no coconut milk .. the pineapple curry is called paceri nenas and the brinjal curry is paceri terung .. the gravy differs fronm normal curry in terms of its ingredient .. in paceri curry they put kerisik or the coconut paste and pounded or grinded dried shrimp .. and not only in kedah .. i too eat curry with soya sauce ... not banjir but just put some small amount and the soya sauce will add more delicious flavour to the curry .. Small fish is 'Indian Mackerel' in Malay we called 'kembung kecik'... 'temenung' or 'pelaling' The bigger fish , part of 'tenggiri' in english called 'spanish mackerel'
That ikan kembong are called ikan temenung in Kedah and only can be found in North Malaysia,the size are a bit smaller compared to ikan kembong(even though the species and looks are the same) but it got more soft and sweet meat
If you go to the East of Malaysia such as Terengganu or Kelantan and order ikan temenung, they will just stared blankly at you🤣🤣 because they wouldn't know what fish it is since they called it ikan kembong ohh and temenung means stared blankly

I would suggest you to go Restoran Tok Keramat. Located in Jitra. Variety of food and sambal. Then go hiking to Bukit Mak Cun in Kodiang. Best view around especially during this start of paddy plantation season. All green as eyes can see
The roti canai sarang burung is almost similar to roti canai goyang here in KL but without the curry meat..here they serve it with roti canai put curry n dal together (banjir) n 2 half boil eggs on the roti canai..u can see the eggs shaking (goyang) that why they call it roti canai goyang here in KL..😊stay safe guys👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Gulai is kedah speciality, masak lemak cili api is negeri sembilan, masak asam pedas is melaka, ikan patin tempoyak is pahang, curry is penang. Gulai is cooked without coconut milk, curry uses coconut milk.

That Roti Canai Sarang Burung is definitely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ikan Kembung = Indian Mackerel, Ikan Tenggiri = Spanish Mackerel. I prefer Kari Tenggiri over Kembung.

History of northern part of malaysia (perlis, kedah, pulau pinang, perak) is trade route for arab, china, indian long time ago....so thats why kedah food have a little influnce of the curry flavour....if you go other state their "gulai" they use a local spices....but in northern state of malaysia we use a lite curry for the "gulai".....diffent between kari and gulai Kari =strong taste of curry and spice Gulai= just a lite taste of curry strong taste of coconut milk
That 'Ikan Temenung or Kembong' is a sub-specie of Indian Mackerels which are abundant along our costal waters especially near mangrove forests.. Whereas 'Ikan Tenggiri' is our warm ocean version of Mackerels with firm sweet flesh..

There is a different type of soy sauce: the sweet and the salty. And then concentrate and less concentrate. Usually, the concentrate is used to eat with rice. During my childhood, it would be nice to eat hot rice, soy sauce (salty), planta (brand for margerine) with either ikan masin or fried egg.
Steve, as far as the fish and pineapple is concerned, we have the same preference. For your info, Temenong is a poor man's fish (cheaper and abundant) while Tenggiri is a rich man's fish. But where's the veg?
