simply to put it - there is a bounce count - if you bounce on 2 enemies in a row you get wumpa fruit, if you bounce on 3 enemies in a row you get a life, if you bounce more than 200 times you can get crystals by killing enemies thats why he was stuck under the jumping box (to get 200 bounces asap) and then bounced on enemies, died to reset them and repeat till he got all necesary crystals ( I think its 25) to fight cortex
by pressing on a button, you optain a power up. depends on the warp room lets say he would press a button in the 3nd warp room then he would only have the belly flop and double jump

Trashboat500 that is actually TAS using a glitch to get gems after 200 stomps, but for that speed idk what happened, but it also is a glitch.
taechuK It’s called Zag-Zipping. By alternating on the diagonals of the analog stick every frame, you can gain crazy amounts of speed.
