Nothing like a winter storm to keep you busy and alert. I always like driving in a snow storm for the challenge and it keeps me alert. Storing milk for an extra period shouldn't be a problem with all the cold around - a storm shutting down transport in summer would be something you would not want.
Just subscribed on Christmas Day just watched my first video. Very interesting and informative. You are my third diary farmer. I find you all hard working and respectful of your animals. Keep up the good work.
Merry Christmas Piet! Happy, prosperous and most of all healthy New Year to you, your family and crew Greetings from NE rural Ohio, Stay warm and be safe
Wow! I'm watching this from balmy summertime Australia 😜😎 I've never ever even seen snow. That's a whole lot of extra work and planning for you to deal with everything that gets gnarled up by the cold weather. Massive respect to you 🥶 I hope everyone here has a safe and wonderful Christmas and New Year. Peace and best wishes xx
Great video Piet .. impressive snow and an impressive milk tank… had to calculate twice as we don’t use gallons .. wishing you and family an happy new year . Will continue watching 2023 videos greetings from France 🇫🇷
Xmas eve here early morning . Top temp for today is 22 c . Thinking of you guys being snowed in . Just see to your cows and get out of the cold . Piet to your family, Mum and Dad and all other family and workers have a Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year .
Dat is heel veel sneeuw Piet, dat kennen wij niet meer. In Holland veel regen vandaag. Fijne Kerstdagen jullie. I could this typing in English but i make it to a little joke.😜 Groeten uit Staphorst.
I was stationed in Minot in the mid 80s. One storm it was so cold and blowing snow that our service truck temp went down as we we're driving. It got so bad that we had to stop at a cat site to spend the night. The next day the front gate was drifted over with 14 ft of snow and the only vehicle on the site that would start with a John Deere lawn tractor. Used it to start truck then the front end loader to move the snow. Pulled out truck from drift and had to bring in heated shop because the oil froze and was oozing out. I do not miss that.😁 Now my brother drives a milk tanker picks up milk from dairy farms like yours but in Michigan Indiana Illinois and Ohio and we got a lovely blizzard starting at 4:00 today it's supposed to last us until Saturday and then we're going to have lake effect snow for Sunday to Monday so almost 2 ft.
"This sucks" lol, thats and under statement,I'm in Wisconsin back in the 1970s our milk truck was stuck about a half mile from our farm,I went out opened the road to get him in to pickup our milk, then we went back out to plow the road to get himout, we couldn't see the road so he got stuck several times, finally we gave up,the driver spent the night at our house, the good news we then had plenty of room for milk, the next morning the storm was over the road was plowed and he went on his way, we did this with a 60 hp two wheel drive tractor with no cab back then " that sucked"lol
Could you line huge gravity boxes And fill them with milk. Remember that 30/40 years ago . Hey it worked . Winter just plain sucks when it's like this .
Nice to look how you farm in America it is incredible how you can keep the farm running. I try to type in English i hope you can read it great out Holland schelluinen
Ya we got the same 4 day snow storm! It was a massive storm pulling its water source from the Gulf of Mexico! Unreal! Sorry I didn’t catch why you had to set the alarm on your milk silo? Great video like always Piet! You like the 942 Fendt with that bidirectional drive? Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to You Piet and all your Family!!
The milk trucks were unable to return to load at the normal scheduled time, so we had to continue filling the milk silo until they were able to make it back to the farm. We want to keep our small tank empty as long as possible so we can unload and wash the silo while we milk into the small tank. It improves the visibility of the blade. It takes a little getting used to, but I like it. Merry Christmas!
Welkom in North Dakota now you find out what a real winter looks like in the Netherlands 8 degree celcius today and sunny last week 3days skating and every villige has a skating rink but you certainly know that and it word even koulder? good luck man clearing the snow another half day"s work ??👍👍🥶🥶 "Gr: from Groningen"
I'm gonna have to send you an old license plate from Wisconsin, America's Dairyland don't ya know ? You deserve it... Nice job all around. Good job security...
Hi Piet impressive snowstorms over us last dec22.. how much snow you have normally at your farm’and how long is the winter period with snow a normal year ? Great videos thks
Around 50 inches per year is normal I think. We'll start to get temperatures below freezing in October and winter will last to the end of March roughly.
The seat and steering wheel spin around, the can face the front or back of the tractor. Having the blade on the back with the seat spun around gives good visibility of the blade.
Hey Piet, my englisch is not good.Do you understand German ? I would like talk to you. We have no winter in the moment.Today we have 16 Celsius.not normal. We have a farm with cows in germany, bavaria. Gruss Anton
The Fendt has the plow on the rear hitch so any time he had the plow on the seat was turned around driving in reverse. At 9:43 you can see they have weights on the front hitch so I guess can't run the plow on the front hitch due to lack of steering control in snow.
@@dhenschel4 i could have assumed that but if you assumed everything then why even ask i was being thoughtful because not everyone has a chance to experience it
Yes. The seat, the armrest with all the controls, and the steering wheel all spin around together. Having the blade on the back also improves visibility.
People don’t realize the effort that dairy farmers put in every day to feed people.
True and I've seen weather videos and didn't realize sometimes it is local farmers keeping the road open.
Respect for the milktruck drivers
Respect for you all in these situation
40000 gallons is really big
No reply needed, just saying again, I really apericiate your vids and your time and effort to make them.

A 40,000 gallon milk silo just blew my mind! The shear scale of your operation is incredible! It’s always fascinating when you share it with us.
Crazy amount of snow. You do a good job explaining everything you do on the farm
Thank you!

150,000 litres!
I have family in North Dakota and I know the weather can get brutal. Nice job!
EXtreme indeed....Hope the rest of winter is less snow...and cold.
Holy frig you guys get some serious snow storms!!
I love how the seat turns around in your fendt. If it didn’t plowing would be a pain in the neck 😂
Really improves visibility of the blade with the seat turned around!
I do NOT miss winters in ND. God Bless you all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
Merry Christmas!
Watching you from Derry in Ireland
Just found your channel.....up here in Alaska. But Ellendale is home. Wishing you well in the new year
Happy New Year! We buy alfalfa from farmers in Ellendale, have been for the last 10 years.
This is where it would be nice to have a herd share so ure locals could come by and it right from the farm as a back up plan
I expected Luke Skywalker to ride up on a TaunTaun! Hair looks good, Piet.

I am sure you are prepared for any loss of electric power also.....that can happen also. Nice plow.
Yes, we have a generator that will come on if we lose power.
Pozdrowienie z Polski !!! Super farma! Ile krów jest w doju? I jaka ilość ziemi jest potrzebna do wykarmienia tak dużej ilości krów? 😄
Thank you! We are milking 1600 cows. We grow and purchase corn and alfalfa from about 3500 acres to feed our cows.

If you dump milk do you still get paid.... Here in new Zealand in an adverse weather event that halts collection you still get compensated
In America ??? NO
I believe our coop will pay for 50% of dumped milk for one storm event per year.
Fijne kerstdagen en een gezond nieuwjaar gewenst Piet. Hoeveel melkkoeien hebben jullie?
Fijne kerstdagen! Wij melken rond 1600 koeien.
Are you driving that tractor backwards

No, I don't speak German. It was warm in the Netherlands also.
Does the farm own those two milk tankers?
They are owned by a local trucking company that hauls our milk and feed products.
How many you milk thanks for sharing 🐄🎄🧑🎄
We are milking around 1600 cows.
We milked 50 small farm back in the day I'm retired now keep up the good work 🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄👍👍👍
Blowing snow is sooo much fun 🤮
I wouldn't complain if we didn't receive any more snow this winter!
Does ure tractor seat swivel all the around so u can drive backwards

This looks like a multi million dollar business, you have a serious investment here. Profit margins must be fairly slim?
Enough to make a living and re-invest into the farm
Looks miserable
Difficult conditions, but it feels good to get the work done on days like these.
